WWII Comes Alive for Small Children
I am a retired first grade teacher who grew up during WWII. This book is an accurate account of all the things that young children heard, saw, thought about, and participated in during this historical event. Reading it to my classes each December 7 brought back memories and tears that I had forgotten. The children were spellbound and full of questions as I read aloud, often using war mementoes-dog tags, a silver ID bracelet, ration stamps, uniform patches, saving stamps bought in school, balls of chewing gum wrappers, etc.- to help describe this time in history. The reading of this book encouraged many children to go home and question their grandparents, often finding that their grandfathers served in WWII. The book led to map studies of countries involved. I can't begin to tell you how important this book is to children who are just beginning to learn about our country. I was invited by a fifth grade teacher to present Don't You Know There's A War On? to her class. They loved it! This book should take it's place with other children's classics in every library and become a "must read" as part of a child's education about this country and its brave and patriotic citizens.

Touching and heart warming.
Reading this book to your child will remind you of how loving and caring your child is in his or her own way. How children love to imitate the adults around them because they admire them, want to spend time with them, and love to help. But most of all how in their innocense they can persive our state of mind and and give us in a simple act more love than we ever thought possible.

A sweet and satisfying read
Janetta, a city girl, is not certain that she will like visiting her grandfather in rural Georgia. She's never been in the country before and everything--including the mule--frightens her. Grandaddy, however, is a gentle man wise to feelings and needs of little girls. He soon puts her at ease by telling outrageous tall tales. Their relationship grows closer throughout a series of visits.

This is a remarkably sweet--but never cloying--book. The book is a reprint of three previously published books, but the stories flow together so well that it seems as though they were originally designed to be one book. The chapters are short enough and contain enough pictures to encourage beginning chapter book readers. The characters are engaging and the stories are funny and frequently touching.

A heartwarming story
This book tells the heartwarming and humorous tale of the relationship of Anne, a little girl, and Mrs. Simpson, an ecentric old woman. They develop a fast friendship and spend all of June and July playing together. Anne is inspired by Mrs. Simpson's yo-yo ability. She can do many tricks including the Loop to Loop, so Anne decides to secretly learn how to yo-yo in order to impress her friend. One day Mrs. Simpson breaks her hip, which results in a change in their relationship and also in the exchange of their most precious belongings. The illustrations are colorful but simple and take a backseat to the story, as they should in this book.

Mud Flat Spring
Nine brief, amusing stories about woodland animals discovering and celebrating spring - nice read aloud or useful as a beginning "chapter" book. Excellent color illustrations and recommended for students from K through the 3rd grade, as well as teachers and parents.

It is a really nice book about a doll, a teddy bear, and a dog. The doll and the bear have been thrown out for more modern toys. The dog comes by and gives them a home in his owner's basement. He goes away for one day, while the doll and bear play. The next day he brings them to a school and finds homes for them.

A childhood favorite of mine!
I have warm memories of having this book read to me as a 4 year old. When I started learning how to read, it was this book that I stumbled through so proudly.

The illustrations are captivating and imaginative. Monty makes such a lovable "underdog" that the reader naturally likes him and sympathizes with him. The story line resonates with any child - in the rush of your busy day you pass people who you never notice and whose help you take for granted. When Monty suddenly isn't there, it teaches the children in the story (and the reader) how important it is to say thank you and notice people who help you. The children find Monty and ask him to come back - this time with true appreciation for his help.

I'd recommend this book as a fun story and a great teaching opportunity for young children.
