A Wonderful Book!
I wish this book had been around when I was in high school because it brought the field of science in general, and geology/biology in particular, alive for the first time. I honestly looked at my natural surroundings differently after reading it. I have also purchased and enjoyed the hard cover copies of Professor Ward's other two books. Some of the passages he writes especially with regard to bringing you back in time give you shivers.

Charming
Peter Ward is one of the best writers in this genre - personally I rate him with Wilson, Dawkins and Gould - at least when it comes to the art of telling a good story, creating a good picture.

"On Methuselah's Trail" is one of the best books I have read about fossils and evolution. Not revolutionary, challenging or very complicated - just well written, charming, and - most important - it makes you want go right out in the bush to look for your own fossils!

Superb!
"Patterns in Nature" is superb popular science reading and viewing. The diagrams and pictures, always illustrative, never superfluous, guarantee the reader a complete experience. This book should never have been allowed to go out of print.

This book is elegant, enlightening and transforming.
There is a book which is beautifully illustrated, easy to understand and one of those rare finds that will change the way you view the natural world forever. Stevens explores the recurring patterns (e.g., spirals, cracks, meanders) in the natural world and presents the reader with the math, science and above all, excellent diagrams and photographs which illustrate the elegant simplicity underlying these patterns. If your world has lost some of its wonder, here's an excellent way to get some of it back. Like Georg Gerster's eye opening shots of the earth from the air, "The Earth From Above", this book never should have been allowed to go out of print. If I had the money, I would reprint it myself. The only exercise book you'll ever need.
I don't normally buy how-to books. But a friend recommended this book, and now I'm recommending it to everyone I know. Everyone talks about how important it is to get exercise. But what if you're not the sort of person who has the time or wants to go to a gym? That's why this book is so helpful. It's a week by week guide to adding physical activity to your day to day life. It talks about the obstacles that get in the way, and how to get around them. It's full of stories of people who have faced the same problems and have found ways around them to become more physically active. For me one of the most helpful parts was learning how to measure how much exercise I get and then shoot for more. This is a really useful and inspiring book for anyone who knows they need to get more exercise but doesn't know how.

Excellent, well written and documented, and informative.
This book was written by the folks at Black Hills Institute of Geologic Research. Neal is the leading authority of invertibrates of this period. The book lists species and where specimens have been found. I have found it to be an excellent desk reference as well as a great field guide. Recommended reading for the Ammonite hunter.

Aquinas on Creation: Writings on the "Sentences" of Peter Lombard: Book 2, Distinction 1, Question 1 (Mediaeval Sources in Translation, No 35)
Published in Paperback by Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (1998)
Authors: Thomas Aquinas, Steven E. Baldner, and William E. Carroll
Amazon base price: $22.95
Average review score:

Brilliant.
Aquinas On Creation is a fascinating introduction to St. Thomas's philosophy of the begining of time (creation). Though I disagree with Aquinas on almost every possible point, his arguments are valid and good. Additionally, professors William Carroll and Steven Baldner translate Aquinas in such a way as to make him intelligable to both philosopher and layperson alike.

An Essential Planning Guide
Like a lot of people, I am a BIG fan of the first Business Plans for Dummies book. It got me started thinking about going out on my own a few years ago. Well, this new Kit book is a great addition. It's particularly useful as a real hands-on guide to putting together a business plan and then making it work. Every chapter has checklists and other forms that take you through the process step by step, as well as "case study" type examples that really bring the information alive. It's full of updated examples of businesses that have succeeded (and how they did it.) And it also contains terrific analyses of business plans that didn't quite make it (and why.) As a small business owner myself, I was surprised to learn as much as I did from the chapter devoted to small businesses. UNLIKE a lot of other business planning books, this one tackles the subject with real authority along with a great sense of humor. I think this is an essential book for anyone who is putting together a business plan for the first time. I even used the trial business planning software that comes on the CD-ROM to choose the program that would work best for our company. And that's made completing the business planning process even smoother.

Not a review, just a note
I'm just selling a copy of this book on Amazon. I haven't read it. But I wanted to put more information here than was allowed in my "item-note" field.

First, the description from Book News (in the Editorial Review section of the product details) is incorrect. It says this book is "[a] guide to all of the C++ fundamentals for programmers who already have some C programming experience." But the introduction to the book itself describes a number of programming issues that will be addressed using the C language, and then the second-to-last paragraph says, "We'll even get a peek at C++, C's object-oriented bigger brother (programmers usually start using C++ when programs exceed 50 pages)." Looking through the book, I see that twelve chapters are on C and one chapter is on C++.

Second, Amazon's information only tells you that there is a disk included. It doesn't remind you that because this is a book from 1991, the disk included is a 5 1/4" disk. You might be able to write to the publisher and get 3 1/2" disks instead; there is a form included in the back to do just that. (A $5.00 charge for shipping is added.) But replacement disks may not be available for this book, since it is out of print.

Hope that helps.

A Fun But Also Scientific Book
This book is a story about two Clown Anemonefish and their lives. It takes place near Papua New Guinea in the great barrier reef. They live in sea anemone tentacles for safety. It tells about life under the sea with the animals and the plants. And at the end the two fish lay eggs. It has big, colorful illustrations and is fun and interesting to read.

A wonderful book!
I really liked this. Lots of color reproductions of O'Keeffe's paintings, including several "fold-out" double pages. Covers her early mid and late periods. This is also a book about the museum devoted to her in New Mexico, The size of the book is nice too. A bit smaller than "coffee-table" huge dimension. A book you can browse through. Can be an introduction to Georgia O'Keeffe's art and life for somebody just learning about her, or can be extra fun for a real O'Keeffe fan.
