Gene Hill and Steve Smith are the masters of shotgunning prose and this book is definitive proof.

The book is formatted in chapters of essays and yarns written either by either Hill or Smith. Some of the essays are how-to articles; most are anecdotes. The Steve Smith yarns will leave you laughing, while Gene Hill, as was his style, will leave you deep in thought or simply crying.

Some of the essays had me rolling on the floor laughing...yet there is alot of how to and practical knowledge...discussions on habits and habitat are first rate.

William O'Brien believed in the British Parliament's capacity to give good government in 19th Century Ireland. His attempts to secure liberal reform were largely unsuccessfully, and he entered the 1840s with a growing conviction that the Irish Members were wasting their time at Westminister. For the next five years he was a major political figure, and finally, a leader in the 1848 Irish rebellion. Scholarly, informative, and highly recommended.

OK, slight admission - I've never read the book. Frankly, failed Irish rebellions (of which there seem many) are not really my interest. However, the author is my history teacher at school, and a really good bloke. He deserves to do well out of this book, so even if you don't like the subject, buy it and give him a nice supplement to his teacher's salary!

I speak from my own experience with the 3rd edition of Accounting Principles: this text comes from masters of teaching. Rather than begin with definitions, the authors first submerse you into the course of thought by describing a business problem, then deploy accounting concepts designed to solve it. They grudge no efforts making sure that you understand them correctly-and you do, because the partition between the teacher and the student is removed. Highly recommended.

I've read the book many years back and still from time to time, its a good relaxation to open and re-read again this book written by a woman who deserves to be known as the "perfect" American Look.

For Jaclyn Smith's fans, this is truly a collectible item. The photos are great and you will not get disappointed. I've read other books written by Victoria Principal, Morgan Fairchild, Linda Evans, etc..but this book is truly the best among the best! Her beauty and exercise tips are on target and real. Plus the big factor is the style of writing--there's life, art and heart when she discussed things. It's not just selling you the goods but sharing you her passion and love of what she does.

"Anna's Gift" is a great historical fiction book. I loved it death. The characters are real people, and you can relate to them. The plot is believable and it takes real events from Church history. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I can bet you will too. This book is usually for younger readers, but anyone at any age, especially girls, will find a place for this book (and others in the series) in their heart. I guarantee that this book is worth your money.

The Carnival of Animals is a wonderful tale written in a warm and uncomplicated style that allows the reader to truly enjoy not only the antics of the characters, but as important, to make connections to their own life stories. It transports you to where our furry friends/family live and often rule. Too frequently we become trapped and spun about in the whirlwind of stressors from competing demands at work, school and home. As these mount, the moments spent with our "other" family members are some of the most rewarding. In the Carnival of Animals we are taken for a delightful journey across the times and lives of the Smith's family of others, discovering in their world connections back to the joy and sorrow in our diverse and interdependent family of humans, cats, fish, gerbils and dogs. There exists another dimension to life that tracks along with the too brief existence of our other family members, one that has a different rhythm, a different beat to its clock. The Carnival throws open a window to that other dimension and in so doing opens a vital channel into our hearts.

Lucretius isn't an author most come across, but nevertheless the DE RERVM NATVRA is truly a classic. In it he explains his version of epicureanism, taken from Epicurus and tweaked by Lucretius himself. Don't think our word 'epicurean' and this epicureanism are the same thing: epicurean has taken on a set of meanings that usually aren't present in the early philosophy, or in Lucretius's laying-out of it. Epicureanism should appeal to moderns as a very scientific view of the universe (L. offers scientific explanations of natural phaenomena, and isn't afraid to suspend judgement), including early atomic theory. On the other hand, the poetry and storytelling are moving. It is philosophy rimmed with the honey of poetry (as Lucretius puts it himself). As per this edition, it's pricey, but well worth it to completely understand the poet. The book itself is handsome and just the right size, and layed out well. The commentary is actually useful, unlike so many classical commentaries. It's advanced, but doesn't neglect or take for granted too much. At the same time, it doesn't concentrate on matters with a specialistic or only tenuous connection to the poem. In all, this is the place to study Lucretius, and to read a beautiful poem containing a beautiful (because thoughtful and insightful) philosophy.

This book may be the single most incredible work of genius of the modern ages. Its contents border on the incredulous to the scientific and are essential to anyone reviewing the past and its treasure of anecdotes and stories. Sir William displays the true patience of genius necessary in any work of so tremendous an undertaking and his eye for detail along with historical dating and verification of sources are unmatched in any comparable text. For the avid enthusiast who is reading for knowledge the truths are paintakingly written with just the right amount of detail to tantalize the reader while letting the reader visualize the text in its broadest scope. For the scientist, no book of this type will ever show the historical narrative as these volumes so richly do. I highly recommend that this work be a prerequisite of any study in the fields of History and Archaelogy.
