Highly recommended !
The Idea Brokers is an excellent chronological exploration of the evolution and impact of think tanks on U.S. public policy. The reader is presented with a comprehensive history of these obscure institutions that have spawned dramatically since the start of the 20th-century. The author adequately provides a thorough and detailed account of the personalities that were responsible for establishing these research institutions, their intended purpose, their area of expertise, their advising successes and their implementation failures. At the end, you will agree that these research insitutions will only play a much larger role in shaping government policy and public opinion in the coming years.

An excellently researched book !
The Idea Brokers is a thorough and lucid chronological examination of the evolution and impact of the modern day research centers known as 'think tanks'. These obscure research centers have spawned dramatically over the past century and their significant contributions in shaping the policies of the United States are revealed.

Mark Gruhin Chapter Fantastic!
This is an excellent book with an extremely insightful and fascinating chapter written by Mark I. Gruhin. He is a very skilled writer and lawyer, and I look forward to his future writings.

Great Book-Very Interesting....
Being a lawyer in NYC, I was very impressed with some Inside the Minds: Interne Lawyers. Although it is impossible to cover every Internet related topic, the book does a good job at covering some very interesting topics. In addition, the individuals portrayed in the book represent a good cross sampling of different talents related to Internet law. I particularly enjoyed the interview with Mark Fischer at Palmer & Dodge. If you are a woman, make sure to also check out Inside the Minds: Leading Women.

Exellent resource!
I've read them all - Polancy, Benham, Smith, Thomsen, and they all have something to offer the wannabe resident of Hawaii. The Smiths' book, though, has a different slant, obviously geared more to the retiree, but this book also deals with some sociological issues that the other books didn't touch on at all. Smith raises some very interesting questions, such as, "What will Hawaii be like if/when so many baby boomers relocate there? Will the local population be able/willing to assist and support these aging immigrants? Who will control the government? How will escalating real estate prices affect the local population?" Many of these issues are at the heart of the Hawaiian sovereignty movement, and may well affect how newcomers are greeted and treated in the future. This looming question is certainly not the only focus of the Smiths' book - it is highly readable, and contains a wealth of information for the prospective newcomer. But I found the thought provoking issues a very valuable addition to suggestions of locations, advice on moving, and many suggestions for further reading and web sites to explore. All in all, a very excellent resource - one that should not be missed by anyone interested in moving to Hawaii.

A "must read"
for anyone considering living and/or retiring in Hawai. I only wish this book had been around three years ago to asist us with our "hellish" move to paradise.

The Smiths provide timely assistance to Hawaii newcomers as they plan their sojourn to paradise. They teach all you need to know to make an easy move and transition to a whole new world. Their book provides in depth information on everything from affordable housing, jobs and entrepreneur opportunities to dining, entertainment, local customs, language and romantic side trips.

Scoouwa: James Smith's Indian Captivity Narrative

A Most Beautiful Book
This is without a doubt the very best book ever written about Indian captives of the French and Indian Wars or Indian captive narratives in general. It is a first person account - sharing a realism no others can match - written over 200 years ago by James Smith. The vast majority of works on this subject are filled with racial hate, a measure of Early American attitudes towards Native Americans, masking the realities of war, captivities and white- Indian relations. Sadly, this perverse formula of writing tales on the captives of native Americans is still alive and well today as we approach the 21 Century - ignoring the actual histories and huge amounts of primary research material available. This book should be read by every 7th or 8th grader in the US studying American history. American history text books used by middle and high school children should all contain excerpts from this book. Anyone interested in Native American history should read it. And, anyone interested in an easy read, something beautiful and inspirational, should buy this book! Michael C. Cohill

Authentic adventures of a Captive! Unbelievable story!
Very authentic insights into native-american life and the life of a captive. Best parts: How James learns native- american knowledge of the forest to save himself when he became lost. (Treetops point south toward the sun, there are more branches on south part of certain trees, etc). He spends a night inside a hollow tree during a fierce blizzard and survives. Unbelievable story! How did these captives ever survive such ordeals? READ THIS BOOK! A good way to gain insight into native-american culture!

Great Desk Resource
I'm a tax attorney and I have this book as a desk resource. It is a great general text on a variety of tax issues. This book has helped me find the quick answers to countless "simple" tax questions.

Comprehensive Textbook covering Corporate Tax
This textbook has a counterpart INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX, also published by West's Federal Taxation that is used extensively by business schools as well as accounting classes covering all the aspects of taxation.

The book is written in an easy to understand manner, which follows the most important codes that are used in tax today. The only drawback of these books are the fact that since the tax codes are constantly changing, the books are updated about every year.

All 'round quick-view herbal guide
Being aware of the many benefits of herbs for a long time we are finally in a position to grow our own herb garden. Having read many books and articles I find "for the price" the content of this book offers an unequaled quick guide for living with herbs-growing and preserving instructions, tips and techniques for designing herb gardens, and ideas for herbs in the kitchen, herbal remedies and other health and personal care as well as fragrances.

This book is a mainstay in our library. It is beautifully designed and printed and is a joy to read even if you never grow your own herbs.

Spectacular
This is a wonderful book - of particular interest to Australians of course, to whom Captain Cook is a prominent historical figure, but also to anyone interested in the grand tradition of the master mariners and adventures on the high seas.

Physically it is a beautiful book as well, with fabulous illustrations and quality paper. Perhaps not a book for everyone, but for serious collectors it is a gem.
