Fantastic cookbook
This cookbook is great, the recipes are absolutely delicious, but the most important part of this book is the spiritual aspect that goes along with cooking and eating food. Eating is important for all the obvious reasons, but really nourishing yourself is an incredibly important part of living a vital, healthy life. Everything from the type of food we choose, to the way we prepare it, to the mood we create everytime we sit down to eat, affects our life and health. This book is a great guide to cooking some fantastic meals and really showing you the spiritual side of cooking and eating.

A nuts and bolts book on hunger, and what you can do about it
While it can get a bit technical at times, overall, this book is very good at explaining why we should care about poor and hungry people in our country and around the world. It also gives people the tools they need to be citizen advocates on hunger -- going beyond helping at soup kitchens or donating money to good causes. It shows how we can use our power as citizens to affect the root causes of hunger and poverty, and not just put a Band-Aid on the problem. A great book for anyone who cares about this issue, but especially for Christians who understand the teachings of Jesus to mean that we are obligated to care for all of God's children.

Informative and Practical Guide to End Hunger
If you are not put off by all the god-talk, this is a wonderful book, filled with important information and clear analysis. Ever wondered how much money it would take to feed, clothe, educate, and provide running water for all the world's people? About 40 million a year, or one-sixth of what America alone spends on National Defense annually. Ever wonder how the national budget breaks down: how much money is spent on international aid, or how the US compares to other industrial countries on these issues? It's in there. Ever wonder what practical steps you can take to alleviate national and global hunger? It's in there, along with many other important facts. My only complaint about this book: The authors of are too Christian and rather biased about the IMF and the World Bank, one of them having worked within the WB for many years. Even with its flaws, though, this book has a very important message. Check it out.

A superb book on the problems and solutions on hunger
The insightful authors, both Lutheran ministers active with Bread for the World, start with a careful overview of the biblical teachings related to hunger and poverty and then examine the state of the hungry in the USA and throughout God's world. There is plenty in the book to celebrate: the percentage of those living in poverty in the USA has dropped in the last forty years, child mortality in developing countries is one half of what it was in 1960, world grain production per acre has doubled in the same time period, the global population's rate of growth is slowing, the proportion of hungry people in developing countries has fallen sharply, and the number of people who die in famines has also decreased in the last few decades. There is still far too much bad news: the percentage of U.S. children living in poverty (one in five) is triple that of other industrialized nations; thousands of children are dying daily in developing nations because of hunger (one child is dying for every breath we take); and less than one percent of our national budget goes for foreign assistance. The book's question and answer format makes for easy reading while its content can be troubling, but also inspiring for people of faith who can make a difference.

Nice intro into ecological censusing for beginners/amateurs
As someone who has worked with the public to do bird conservation, I have found this book to be helpful in helping to explain the techniques & issues that scientists face when doing ecological censusing.

Other than the fact that most of the species that are mentioned are Old World species (a moot point since the topics & techniques are universal), this is a good book. One thing I would like to see, is a North American version that uses examples based on New World species, & how these censuses & projects relate to our conservation laws in the U.S. The authors make mention of several British or European laws dealing with habitat conservation and restoration. It would be interesting to see U.S. examples based on our laws.

Overall, a good read for anyone getting into citizen-based bird science & conservation, or introductory-level college ecology students.

the best of the birdy books
this is really the best. no doubt.

So You Want to be a Brain Surgeon? A Medical Careers Guide

A map through the maze of medical careers in the UK
This book is a bible for the confused junior doctor or medical student deciding which path to take. For every speciality, there is essential information about the reality of the job - a refreshing change from the abstract, idealistic and stereotypical ideas so often perpetuated by our profession. Particulary useful is the information on those things that matter most: pay, working hours, competitiveness, nights, opportunity for private practice, stress and amount of litigation. It also includes useful contact details, tips to race ahead of the crowd, sections on opportunities abroad and alternative careers for doctors who have had enough. In short, this book is a map through the maze of medical careers - a great investment.

Incredible
This has got to be the best book regarding medical careers I have ever read. The contents is both informative yet readable, and the cartoons and pictures give the book a humourous feel. This book is incredible.

Good and Clear explanation of the main points
I'm a CS student and needed to know more about VHDL for a project. I looked at a range of books and found some of them way too deep for me. This one seemed clearly written and had lots of neat examples.

What I liked best was that the books show 3 different ways fo designing circuits. I learnt a lot about VHDL design styles from that

There were some mistakes in the code (eg bit-width ofa circuit vaired from 4 to 5 bits in different parts of the code) but thats about it

Good book on VHDL Synthesis
This book is excellent for the topic - logic sythesis. It has an introduction to VHDL, however I found that "VHDL Starters Guide" was better if you are just starting off. However at any rate this is a good book on VHDL. There is a lot of examples in the book, which makes it easy to understand and use. It does have a focus on sythesis, with such topics of optimizing your code using different tecniques. It also talks about good coding of VHDL. If you know at least some VHDL and are interested in synthesising your designs, this book should be useful for you.

Classic American Comedy.
Before the movie, before the television series, before all the spin offs, there was just the play. The story is a classic spin on the buddy plot. Oscar Madison is a successful sports writer who happens to be best friends with Felix Unger, a newswriter for CBS. Each week Oscar has five of his buddies over for a Friday night game of poker. However, on one fateful night Felix fails to appear in time for the game. It turns out Felix has just been thrown out by his wife and has no place to go. Feeling sorry for his old friend, Oscar invites Felix to stay with him and be his roommate. What ensues is a classic Neil Simon look at friendship that will endure for ages.

Odd Couple
When you pair David Paymer and Nathan Lane as Felix and Oscar in the Odd Couple, you are in for a comic tour de force that over stretches its material. With a supporting cast which includes Dan Castellaneta and Yeardley Smith (both from The Simpsons) and Linda Purl, the cast is almost perfect. This production is a little too visual in a few of its jokes. However, on the whole, it unscrupulously grabs the audio listener by his ears and shakes him with laughter.

I love Nathan Lane!
Nathan Lane is delightful as Oscar Madison. I also enjoyed hearing Dan Castellanata ("Homer Simpson") as Murray, and Yeardley Smith ("Lisa Simpson") as Cecily Pigeon.

Don't Bother with this one!
Like all of you who read this review, you're Everest junkies who probably won't even get near this mountain, but are hooked on all books about it.
High; Stories of survival from Everest and K2 is NOT what you're looking for. This book is nothing but one-chapter excerpts from other books. It's like walking into a movie half way through: You have no idea what's going on. Also, there are no maps of either Everest or K2, so if writers of these chapters (and some of them are BORING writers!) describe trouble on Everest's north col or K2's Abruzzi ridge, we can't picture these places in our minds.
This book (unlike all the other Everest books I bought and immediately read) has been sitting on my bedstand for months. I only read it when I wake up at 3AM and can't go back to sleep. Just reading from this book puts me back to sleep reeeeeal fast!
Don't bother with this one. The Everest season is happening right now. Maybe more books will come from this year's hikers.

the interior climb
I very much enjoyed and highly recommend this book. I've read many of the books from which these chapters are selected, yet there was much fresh material for me. The editing was so masterful that even though the chapters are from different writers, mountains, and times, they flowed together seamlessly

High does for climbing what the movie The Thin Red Line did for combat: It explores not the details of the event, but the inner thoughts of the participants. You read what it feels like to have a climber dying in a tent next to you. You learn about the humilation of having frostbite while back at home. You are with the widows who trek in the paths of their husbands to glimpse the mountain graves of their loved ones.

While I can understand that some reviewers felt the selections dropped one into the middle of a big problem high on a mountain without the broader context of the expedition, I didn't feel this was a problem. I don't need the beginning, middle, and end to enjoy a brief tale. There are plenty of books that give all those details, yet few that are gripping to read from the first page to the last.

damn good book
This is the first book i've read that was a collection of excerpts from other books. The only thing i didn't like was that the book itself was big and bulky. Well anyways, just buy it. you won't be disappointed.

The Path to Health
Despite some blatant entrepreneurial pitches for Chopra's Prana Institute and its products, as well some blatant abuse of quantum physics, and the annoying "I am young" manatra you will repeatedly be asked to mouth throughout the book in order to help change your psychological perception of age, GROW YOUNG, LIVE LONGER is a fine book that will indeed enhance health, and thus perhaps make you look and feel younger. It's one of those all-around good books: covering basic yoga, providing some good recipes, filled with wonder facts about detoxification, wise nutritional supplementation, and the benefits of proper sleep and exercise. And of course, Chopra outlines his universal philosophy of love, which I found inspiring. On the whole, I was deeply impressed with the book, and ended up buying copies for friends. Another book I highly recommend that will add to your healthly living arsenal is The Optimum Nutritional Bible by Patrick Holford. Unlike Chopra, Holford takes a purely nutritional stance, but his dietary suggestions have the power to increase intelligence, vitality and life-span. Now go eat your veggies!

Changed me forever
Dr. Chopra offers insight on living that truly changed me forever. Learning how to relax my mind at night has me sleeping better than I have in my entire life. I have been listening to my body on which foods it needs and feel better every week. I left fast food behind and look healthier than I have in 15 years. I found out about Dr. Chopra in the suggested reading list in the book Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life.

Transformational!
I had the pleasure of meeting (and having my picture taken with) Dr. Deepak Chopra at a presentation he delivered as part of the promotional tour for this book. His message is nothing short of transformational! After hearing the lecture and reading the book, I finally found the courage and inspiration to finish my own book titled, Rat Race Relaxer: Your Potential & The Maze of Life. I enjoyed Grow Younger, Live Longer so much I even included it in my book's suggested reading list.

Once excellent series goes average
Why is everyone giving this book such high marks? SQL 7.0 unleashed is a decent reference which covers the basics but not much else.

The SQL unleashed series took a step back. I'm very disappointed that this incredible reference has now become simply average. Don't get rid of your SQL 6.5 unleashed...you'll still need it! The 6.5 edition was a masterful tome which included all kinds of wondeful info that couldn't be found anywhere else. The 7.0 book is sparse on the very details that made the 6.5 version so endearing.

By the way...David Soloman is not an author on this book (as listed above). In fact this is an entirely different team of writers than were on 6.5. Two of the heros of 6.5 edition, Spenik and Sledge are the authors of the top SQL book on my desk: SQL 7.0 DBA Survival Guide.

SQL Server 7 Unleashed
This was my first Unleashed series book. I was studying for my MCP in SQL Server 7, Using the Microsoft Official Curriculum. I decided to purchase this book in order to fill in the gaps. I a great book. No doubt about it. Chapters on Transactions, Locks, Indexing, VLDBS etc.. were great. I think I am an MCP in SQL Server today because of this book. Even though this book is written by many authors, you don't feel it. Buy it now.

Great Addition to BOL
Does this book have every answer to every question about SQL Server 7.0? No. However, if you need more information than the Books Online provide on just about any topic, this book delivers.
