While this book does have some decent puzzles, I was overall somewhat disappointed. I found that many of the puzzles were not puzzling at all, the first thing I thought of was the correct answer or near to it.

I have not gone through all of the book yet, but so far I would not reccomend this to someone who wanted truly "mind-sharpening" and challenging puzzles.

A solid book if you want to build the mind.

The puzzles in this book truly are mind-sharpening. I enjoyed this book & others by this author because it makes you look at life from a different perspective. The illustrations show a dry sense of humor that I enjoy.

By relating famous hoaxes such as the radio broadcast of H.G. Well's War of the Worlds and discussing recent space probes to Mars, Mercury and Venus, Branley comes to the conclusion that there might be life beyond Earth... but not in our solar system. While he admits there may be possibilities of life in other galaxies, he claims there most likely isn't life in our solar system except for what exists on Earth. This is an outdated and inaccurate view. The goal of the series is to introduce basic science concepts to young children, but the only concept I came away with was very Earth-centric - none of our species could live on Mars, ergo, there is no life on Mars. Branley never defines life. In truth, we cannot assume "life" to be carbon based, requiring warm temperatures and sunlight. In fact, on our very own planet we have found species that do not require these things. Instead of writing "there is no life on Mars," Branley should have written, "There is no life as we know it today on Mars. If this idea is too scary for young children, perhaps there isn't a need for a low-level book on this topic. At the least, the book serves as a jumping off point for an interesting discussion. The authorial intrusion in the book ("People also say it's silly to believe there is life on them [other planets]. I don't think so.") is annoying and condescending. The writing is too simplified; children could handle more details than are given about the planets, the space program, and the various ways alien life has been envisioned in our culture. The illustrations are a bizarre mix of simple brightly colored collage style pictures and photographs. The diagram of the solar system is great, and whimsical aliens decorate the end papers and many pages. A page of further activities concludes the book. No works are cited, no resources for more information are listed. A glossary, index and timeline would have been appropriate inclusions. This book was originally published in 1984; it needs much more overhaul than it received.

This book talks in children's words about a subject that adults learned so long ago that they may have forgotten. The artistic side of the book keeps children entertained without taking away from the subject content. My five year old loves this book.

I've said it before in other reviews of sticker books. If a 3 or 4 year old enjoys it, just pick a subject that interests them and I'm sure they will enjoy it. This had a lot of bare planetary landscapes and views of space. There was no story to follow.

This book is a space travel themed book which is one of many in a series, published by Grosset & Dunlap.

There are seven 2-page spreads, which consist of background for placing the stickers. Each spread has a few sentences to tell a story or guide the sticker placement. The backgrounds are creative and well done. There are backgrounds of space scenes with plants in the background, the surface of Mars, the surface of the Moon, the outside of a space station, and the launch pad area of American space stations. Stickers depict older rockets, modern space shuttles, astronauts, satellites, and various space vehicles.

The stickers are billed as "reusable". The stickers stick very well the first time around. A bonus "pro" is since they are "reusable" stickers, if they are accidentally stuck onto floors, walls, or furniture they remove easily and effortlessly. The "con" is that (after using 5 different books in this series and having this consistent in every book) I must say that once a sticker is peeled and placed in a different spot, it does not lie flat. The sticker curls at the edges and is a mess. This has frustrated and annoyed both of my children and I don't like activities that are supposed to be fun to end up causing tantrums and frustration--especially when it is caused by "false claims" by the publisher of the stickers being reusable! Also in the sticker removing process, they tend to tear, especially if the shape of the sticker has protruding parts or small pieces sticking out (vs. a simple shape of a planet or a long rocket shape which usually come off in one piece). The tearing occurs when I peel them as well as my young children. This tearing has resulted in tears and disaster-"my favorite space shuttle ripped---AAGHHH!"

The graphics themselves are high quality and I am happy with the book graphics and the sticker graphics. In case you are wondering about astronaut gender or race, all but two astronauts are wearing helmets so we can't see their race or gender. There are two with visible heads and they are clearly male, one Caucasian and one dark-skinned.

There are 75 stickers. If one were to buy 75 single use stickers of a theme without a book, the price would be higher than the price of this book with the stickers. I like the book and the stickers except for them being billed as "reusable" when they really are not. I'll rate it 4 stars since I really like the product but wish the stickers were more reusable than they are. The low price also is appreciated.

I did come up with an idea that once the stickers are shot, to discard them and you would end up with a blank book. You can then present this to your child and have them draw in the book with rockets or whatever they choose.

The life of Henry Miller really derves the talents of someone like Robert Caro, since it can be seen as the basis for a broader history of the American West in the 19th century. Miller himself was self-made, a dynamic, visionary, and fantastically successful land and cattle baron. He also seems to have been welll-liked by the men he hired, and (at least for a land baron) by his neighbors. The story as told by Treadwell is factual enough, but devoid of personal and cultural detail. Miller's business papers are mostly in the collection of the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley, raw data awaiting the talentrs of a more skilled biographer. An out-of-print but fairly easy to find book written by one of Miller's foremen, "California Gringos", is also informative

This is a very good book for introduction into homiletics. I was a student of Fr Miller's at St. John's Seminary in Camarillo, CA. It is a good text for first getting one's feet wet, and I continue to refer to it in my own preaching from time to time. His method is a rather basic one, but it still works well.

he's NOT an acredited scientist, his degrees are dubious, at best. his theories are absurd. His lack of proof is highly disturbing. To take this book seriously would be a severe mistake. He is avoided by all who wish to be taken seriosly, in the field of creationism.
I read it for a laugh, but ended up being very afraid that a man this disturbed could have an influence on others.

This book is like similar ones written that should be confined to the garbage. It is sheer nonsense, and like the author leads one into nothingness. His words are meaningless, and harps on others,throwing names around like thistle seeds in the wind!

I read this book when it first became available and found it to be absolutely one of the best books written on Biblical Creation. It destroys evolution by solid, concrete evidence that cannot be answered with anything from evolutionists other than more of there theory and none of the facts. How can an evolutionist explain away human footprints inside dinosaur foot prints that have been independently tested and verified as real? This is a must read for anybody who is looking for truth!
