A Great American Architect
Anyone who has experienced a Benno Janssen designed property understands the beauty, majesty and uniqueness of his style. His use of the natural resources of Western Pennsylvania and a style of combining high roofs and archways create an Eastern European look. He is truely one of our country's greatest architects. I recommend this book for anyone who appreciates great architecture, especially when it utilizes the surrounding landscape.

It was worth the wait...
It took about 3 years to get this book... But it was worth it. It makes building your own hot tub well within the reach of anyone with a few power tools and the ability to buy some good redwood. I recommend this book to anyone with patience, a tablesaw and some $$ for wood.

a really nice encyclopedia of tools
There are far too few books for kids about tools. This one is great - well-drawn pictures of each tool and detailed descriptions so that a tool novice like me can answer all the questions my kids might have. This would be a fantastic gift for any kid who's house is undergoing a remodel or large repair.

As interesting as it seems
This book is ideal for anyone who uses color in the design of publications, as well as for teachers and students of design and the graphic arts. "Eyes on the News" introduces the Color Theory for newspapers and magazines of the third millennium, all based on research conducted with the use of Gallup's EyeTrac equipment to test reader eye movement. Moreover it's an excellent reading.

How to Produce a Small Newspaper

Practical and Useful Even 20 Years After Release
I found this book to be among the most useful and most practical guides for newcomers planning to publish a newspaper in their community.

Although it could greatly benefit with an update including current production methods for typesetting (PC/Mac) and could include at least a couple chapters for publishing in cyberspace, this remains perhaps the most useful book I have come across.

After checking it out from the local library a dozen times, and (I confess) scanning it for re-reading while working in Egypt, I finally ordered a used copy a year ago so I could include a real copy in my personal library here in Egypt.

In 1986, I should note, I began a small magazine with less than $25. It became named by Library Journal as One Of The Best New Magazine for 1986. My one regret? I had not then read How To Produce A Small Newspaper. If I had, I could have avoided mistakes I made subsequent to the award and, hence, could have made a living producing the magazine. This would have made unnecessary my ceasing publication and seeking overseas employment!

I heartily recommend How To Produce A Small Newspaper for anyone interested in making an income in publishing!

Jonathan Edwards
Published in Paperback by Univ. of Massachusetts Press (1981)
Author: Perry Miller
Amazon base price: $16.95
Average review score:

Two first-rate minds confront each other
Jonathan Edwards was without a doubt the greatest theologian America ever produced. That he was also without a doubt the greatest philosopher colonial America ever produced shows what theology was once upon a time in America. Obsessed with returning American churches to its more devout Calvinist roots, Edwards began the Great Awakening in America, only to find himself cast out of his own pulpit for daring to challenge the social order of his church. Edwards deeply investigated the concept of free will, reconciling it as no other theologian had with the doctrines of predestination and divine omnipotence. But Edwards was also a figure of the Enlightenment, and applied Locke's rationalist doctrine of the senses to his preaching style, creating almost singlehandedly the fire-and-brimstone approach used to this day to terrify poor sinners into repentance. Perry Miller, the twentieth century's most dominant American intellectual historian, here explicates the life of Jonathan Edwards as no one has before or since: on the merit of his ideas. Miller was an atheist who spent his life studying American religious movements; this was one of his finest works. Not to be missed by anyone interested in the history of American religion or philosophy.

As a fancier and owner of four Afghans I really enjoy reading this book. Well documented, it provides all you want to know about the breed. My only regret is that The Book is getting old and no newest editions are on sight.
