Disappointing
A superficial look at investigating fraud. This book helps out only the most inexperienced investigator and uses light-hearted phrases to gloss over issues without providing much information. It took me about an hour and a half to read the entire book. I would be happy purchasing this book for about $10. I bought the book based on the other review, it makes me think that one of the authors may have written it. I was very disappointed.

Unique and unquestionably comprehensive basic principles
The only book of its kind in the industry with A-Z basic principles spelled out for novice and experienced investigators who want to learn or refresh their knowledge of the insurance investigators skills. This should be a mandatory item in the insurance adjusters or SIU investigators library. As Manager of Investigators worldwide in excess of 15 years I stand behind this book and recommend it to investigators of all skill levels

The Crazy World of Soccer

Funny illustrated soccer humor
I bought this book for a male friend who is a soccer fanatic. He enjoyed it. He said it definitely has humor that only a soccer player would understand. The book consists of color illustrations of various soccer situations with funny captions. The one thing that caught us both offguard was that the humor was very British, and the British slant shows through in some of the drawings and humor. Soccer is called football all over Europe, not just Britain, so that is why I was not expecting that slant. American and Hispanic soccer players will still understand and enjoy the humor.

Disappointing
I have been working on a history of heavy automatic weapons and their ammunition, which inevitably includes a great deal about aircraft guns. When I saw the advert for this book, I bought it sight unseen. Big mistake. There is virtually nothing about the development of the different types of weapons and what there is has an enormous US bias. What little information there is about non-US equipment is often laughably inaccurate (the one "French" aircraft of WW2 is - the RAF's Boulton Paul Defiant!). Even the US information is largely in the form of pictures, many of them just showing gun muzzles sticking out of wings or turrets. From my viewpoint, a waste of money.

Good, but misses great
I bought the first book this duo wrote (C-Planes) and it was truly excellent. This one did not quite meet that standard. However, my two teenage boys, aviations nuts themselves, did enjoy it very much. It is a good, basic overview of aerial gun warfare, but it doesn't have the depth and detail that I was hoping for. Maybe they coud do a second edition, and get it up to their earlier very high standard!

Great for my teenagers!
My teenager now wants to be a pilot, and he bought this book for that reason. For him, it was great. An overview of fighter pilotage, but without the details that would bore him and turn him off. He has read it at least six times, and loves the pictures.

Worst Java Book I've ever read.
This is the worst java book I've ever read. The book is unorganized and the content is not suitable for the beginner at all.

The companion CD-ROM is useless.

If the authors would like to publish the new version for JDK 1.2, there will be a lot of works they need to get accomplished.

Simple words from me.... Don't buy this book.

Not the best Java book on the market
Covers alot of fancy staff but has a great lack of contents. It seems like the author has rushed through the book just to fill it out with the Java 1.1 features and forgot to describe the import basics behind the language. There's now way you're gonna be a Java guru by reading this book!

genial
It is very thorough. Almost everything important about java is in there including JDBC, JNI, Java Beans, Servlets, security management, even the specification of the virtual machine and most is explained well understandble. It is the best java book I ever saw!

Not practical
This is one of the worst computer books I have ever read!! I have had to constantly refer to MS whitepapers to install my test Exchange server since this book lacks the thoroughness to complete a full multi-domain installation with ADC and IM installed. The section on installing and configuring the IM server is useless. I've read at least 1/3 of the book and will probably not read the rest. I will try the book from MS Press next.

I'm disappointed
Having purchased a number of "... The Complete Reference" books in the past, I must say that I am disappointed with this one. For all of the pages in this book, there really isn't much substance. There are too many illustrations with little text to back them up. I definitely would not recommend this book to a beginner. An experienced Exchange admin might value it as a reference but I believe that the Microsoft books are more useful in that capacity.

Very informative!
I read the comments here and bought the book anyway after skimming it in my local bookstore. I think this book is a great reference to have handy. Its filled with great tidbits, configuration settings and other information I have not been able to find anywhere else. The chapter on Instant Messaging is very thorough, as are other chapters. No book is perfect, but overall I am pleased with the book and I recommend it to others.

Breathing for Musicians
Published in Spiral-bound by Reinhardt & Still Pub (1999)
Authors: Bill Still and Dr. Scott Nelson
Amazon base price: $20.00
Used price: $192.66
Average review score:

Decent content, poorly presented
I thought the book had a good deal of useful information, especially on the details of the Valsalva manuever and the breathing process. I was distracted, however, by the outdated inkjet pictures, and the supposedly "breakthrough" discoveries and teaching techniques which have been around for quite some time in the professional circuit. The book is good for the student who is new to the study of breathing, but does not contain any bibliography for further study. Arnold Jacobs, former tuba player with the Chicago Symphony (and widely known for his expertise on breathing for musical purposes) has much more information to provide, and most of his discoveries were made many years ago, and still apply today. If you purchase this book, be sure to check out anything by Jacobs or his former students to see what you'll be missing.

Deceptive marketing
I had no idea this book only covers the former Shaker village at Canterbury, New Hampshire. The title and cover of this book indicates a comprehensive treatment of Shaker buildings, not just one village. None of the info available . . . amazon.com indicated the true nature of this book. This is a real problem with buying books sight-unseen from internet booksellers. Nonetheless, this is a good book about Canterbury. But some of the finest Shaker buildings are in Kentucky, and the only buildings still inhabited by modern Shakers are in Maine. All these and more are in Julie Nicoletta's definitive book, "The Architecture of the Shakers." It's also a better price!

What? Title is misleading. Content is Horrid.
I ordered this book before I saw the cover. I shouldn't have. Written in 1983 it certainly isn't up-to-date. Apparently it was updated in 1998, but I didn't see anything revised but a new introduction. The body type is hand lettered calligraphy. I am not kidding. Not only is it difficult to read but it repels any respect from a typographic efficianado. I'm sorry I wasted my money.
