A full of facts book that's a pleasure to read
This is a delightful book to read ! I found many answers to puzzling questions, and really there were many more riddles than I had previously thought of.

The book is far more than informative. It made me think deeper on how life on earth is organized.

I always wondered if animal shapes where subject to any pattern. Did evolution follow any rules or was it a haphazard process ? Was there any relationship between size and velocity ? Could an organism grow to any size ? Giants can be expected to appear, can I believe unbelievable tales ?

Well, maybe the answer to all above questions is not in the book's scope, but it helps a lot. Actually, I found that top of the scale animals routinely departed from the rule set for the rest of their group. They had simply overrun possible competitors.

Reading it is a pleasure. Even though you'll find some math's in it, this is not a technical book. I wasn't disappointed. It stands as a reference book in my library.

A masterful achievement
"The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant" is a project begun in 1962 for the purpose of publishing all the known letters written by Ulysses S. Grant. Volume one was published in 1967 and there are now twenty-four volumes in the series. People who follow Grant's career are aware of the inestimable value of this project. The Papers contain all known correspondence written by Grant and letters received by him. The editing of the series is unparalleled and the volumes represent primary source material at its apex.

Those who believe Grant was a "drunkard" or a "butcher" should read his own words, which show Grant's humor, pathos and unique personality. Masterfully edited by John Y. Simon, these volumes are a "must have" for anyone with an interest in U.S. Grant as a general, a politician and as a man

One da kine clear explaination!
This book was able to put into words what anyone who's lived in Hawai'i has sensed all along. Chapters on the Hawaiians, the Caucasians, the Chinese, the Japanese, the Portuguese, the Okinawans, the Koreans, the Filipinos, the Samoans and the people of Indochina discuss the history of the arrivals of the different people in the islands, value systems, stereotypes, contemporary situations, etc.

As a kid at Makalapa Elementary school I knew that lots of my Chinese friends had extended families, lots of my Japanese friends had YBA on Saturdays, lots of my Caucasian friends from military families lived almost cloistered, separate lives, that you couldn't tell who was part Hawaiian by someone's first name, that lots of people put down Filipinos, etc. But I didn't know most Caucasians value individuality over extended family and that they are unique in doing this in the land of 'ohana. Or that hanai adoptions by a child's tutu were the norm (such that nearly 1/3 of the Hawaiian community surveyed in 1970 had legal or informal adoptions in their family). Or that traditional Japanese wives were expected to move in with their mothers-in-law. Or that traditional Samoan views on childrearing involve older children taking care of younger children and physical punishement or shaming for "bad" behavior.

The different chapters were all written by experts on the community in question. The book does a great job of presenting balanced views (including both positive and negative stereotypes) and avoiding generalizations. The book is geared towards use in the mental health care field, but will appeal to a far greater audience. This is a must-read for anyone curious about the histories of different cultural groups in Hawai'i, or with an interest in racial relations in the United States. Accessible and extremely well done!

An essential to your core library for Neurology practice.
This two volume text is an essential reference and mandatory reading for any Neurology resident or Staff Physician. I had the opportunity to train under the instruction of many of the contributors to this text. I found it to be rich in detail and clinical expertise. I refer to it often in my practice. It is concise and easily understood.

A superlative re-telling of the timeless classic.
This version of John Bunyan's original makes for a light, yet poignant read. It provides an insight to Bunyan's own Christian journey and allows the reader to liken his/her own spiritual walk with that of this 17th century author.

A must-read for any southerner
This is an interesting, delightful read, which will make any Southerner, and, for that matter, any American, stop and think about the way things were. As suggested by Guice in the foreword, "There is hardly a 'plain vanilla' or 'B-flat' sentence in the entire book," and, indeed, there is not, as this book reads like a story, as opposed to a typical historical record. The author quite successfully describes "what happened" in terms of the tactile, visual, olfactory and auditory. A terrific account by a fascinating historian.

Extremely compelling
This work by two investigative reporters is extremely interesting and well-written. How accurate it is I do not know, but I know thatI found it to be extremely absorbing reading. E.g.: The authors say that Cardinal Benelli had 70 votes and if he had gotten 75 he would have elected Pope. Since Benelli died Oct. 25, 1982, if he had been elected the whole history of this latter part of the 20th century would have been different!

Great book for concept reference
This is an outstanding, easy to read, reference guide for the beginning or experienced tax professional. One thing I particularly like about it is that it addresses compliance and procedural considerations for every main topic -- something that's hard to find in any other comprehensive volume. I highly recommend this book as a desk reference.
