Learn About the World of Today and the Past Quickly
I love this book. Although it is rated for ages 9-12, I am a graduate of an Ivy League school and I find that it quickly refreshes as well as adds to my (already good) knowledge of world history.

Its point of view is commendable: the author writes as if he were an extra-terrestrial just visiting Planet Earth, thus can write about all peoples--American, Europeans, Hispanics, Polynesians, Africans, Japanese, Chinese, Asian Tigers--in a neutral but interested and caring way, for his people out there in the stars to read.

He touts the amazing achievements of several peoples but also pokes fun at their faults and confusions in a breezy but not overblown style. He tells us of nationalism and the rise and fall of individual empires and nations including their feats, truths and dreams as well as their lies, illusions, and exaggerations. Even Science is shown as a rising God that blesses us with favors but also punishes us with headaches.

The book is illustrated in full color, comic-book style, and peppered with delightful stories in virtually every page. It is a good first book or refresher for anyone wishing to start, or again get going at, delving deeper into world history, from the Big Bang several billion years ago to the present. The readers ends up both appreciative and skeptical of humanity, in short with the truth.

I noticed a couple of typos at the end of the book, but they are minor blemishes in a truly excellent book of about 120 pages.

Identifying made easy
I am just a beginner birdwatcher and this book was so easy for me to locate the different birds I saw. Very informative-Good drawings and a great price. I just love this book. Being from the Pacific Northwest I didn't want to look through the books that displayed all North American birds. It would take me forever to find the bird I saw and I would forget most of the time what the features were. With this book-refined down to the pacific northwest birds- it is so easy and QUICK to identify the birds in my backyard and on the coast. Pick one up today....you won't be disappointed.

Covers a lot of ground
I found that this book had VERY comprehensive sections on setting up wireless connections for all the major operating systems, including Windows, Macintosh, Linux, Unix, as well as setting up Wi-Fi for your PDA and other handheld devices.

Overall this is an outstanding book which gives you a good working knowledge of every aspect of wireless networking and how to set up a small home network or a larger corporate Wi-Fi network with a firewall and VPN...

The Doctor is In: Evaluating Female Hormone Management: A Unique Approach Interating Traditional and Alternative Medicine

Authors: Audrey L. Ross and John F. Whitehorn

Used price: $11.16

Quick, valuable overview
Female Hormone Management is a very quick read but still has enough details to be informative. It includes reasons for conclusions and recommentations and references to specific names and brands of hormone supplements so you can really tell what they are saying. The main thrust is that one's personal health risks and specific symptoms must be taken into account in making hormone supplementation decisions - everyone is not the same and everyone should not make the same decision. Basically, the book does not conclude for you - it provides the information to you and questions for your doctor so that you can conclude for yourself whether to take hormone supplements and if so which type and method of application might be better for your circumstances. One of the two authors is an MD and the other is a naturopathic doctor - they do not seem to have preconceived notions or biases.

The Effectiveness of Methadone Maintenance Treatment: Patients, Programs, Services, and Outcome

found it both interesting and sometimes way of the mark
I have had the pleasure(if you want to call it that) of being on the so called state addiction for almost 12 years, and in my opinion we were made to be their lab rats to test this so called wonder drug on,and let me tell you this right from the outset IT DOES NOT DO WHAT IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO. They tell you that there is no side effects-WRONG there are plenty, but I'll let you find this out for yourselves. No, I'm not being cruel, but if you end up being put onto methadone,my advice to you is to get off it as quickly as you possibly can. There is also a good side to it,that being no more stealing, no more injecting with other people's tools, and you get your fix for nothing eveyday without fail. But you must sign a Contract telling them that you will become a slave to their every whim etc. Me myself have been on 200mls for almost 4 years, and I must pick this up and drink it in front of the chemist and whoever else happens to be there at the time. To be truthful I wish they had gave me the choice of Heroin in cigarettes,I would have jumped at the chance. A) Because it is a lot easier to come off than methadone B) The withdrawel period is not anything like what it is coming of green ginger. C) Their seems to be a lot more help coming off heroin than there is coming of the juice. D) There is no need to become an expert liar just to get what you actually need, and not what they think you need. E) There is a big difference between what you actually need and what you end up getting. Well this was just a few words from someone who has been down the rocky road of METHADONE>see yous all later surf dudes@

Hip, Hip, Hurray or Fury Beach
Fury Beach by Ray Edinger combines thorough research with a rousing good story. The lengthy bibliography and index suggest the extensive research that went into producing this book. Well written, it is actually two stories for the price of one: a tale of an Arctic voyage of discovery and scientific research and the heart-warming story of the interaction of two cultures, an Inuit tribe and Englishmen, meeting for the first time and things actually go right. People treat each other with kindness and respect. Friendships result. I particularly liked the short snippets of biographies at the close of the book that explained what happened to the participants after the adventure ended. There are many illustrations, all charming.
