Totally secure by the time I finished this book!
I was skeptical at first when a good friend told me to read this book. Boy was I worng. This is a true testimonial of why we behave in certain ways in love relationships. I have read it twice over the past two years and learned more each time I read it. My feelings and emotions are normal. What a great feeling. I am feeling better about myself and the relationship I am in and by readingthe book can understand manyh concepts of insecurites I didn't before. The auther is to be commended for his brilliant work. It has truly changed my life.

Changed My Life
This book is absolutley fabulous! I did not purchase it off Amazon.com, but at a bookstore. I read a little of the later chapters and put it back in search of another book. I found myself back at this book once again. I took the time to read the first few chapters, and it is so elightening. I always thought my partners were the one's who caused my relationship problems, and this book has made me take a good look at myself and realize my actions and feelings were the true problem. For anyone that feels they never seem to get what they need out a relationship, it may be time to read this book and do some self-reflection. It may not be you that is the cause, but those that you engage in relationships with. This book will help. BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT!

I now understand why I feel and act the way I do sometimes.
I would often end up in relationships that I knew were bad from the start. I would immediatly feel a sense of insecurity and jealousy. Deep down, I knew it was something I was "going through". After years of relationship turmoil a close friend recommended this book. I was told it cold be a hard read at first but to bear with it, and it would work miracles. Well, it did! I am now in a wonderful relationship and able to identify feelings or thoughts as they enter in. I am able to recognize them for what they are and not what they have always been. I am now closer to my friends and my parents than ever before. I thank Dr. Hindy and his co-writers for this new chance at life. I may actually venture to Dr' Hindy's office in NH to meet him to thank him personally.

Source of Pride
There are few things to make you proud of being born and raised in a town solidly founded on all night sex, drugs, booze and jazz. There are even fewer things to make you proud of being a Saints fan. That being said, I was an "Awchie" fan before this book. Now, I'm simply in "awe" of him. They say you can judge a person by his/her children. Well, Cooper, Peyton and Eli speak VOLUMES as to the true character of Archie and Olivia. Dare I say it? The Manning Family makes me proud to be from New Orleans. This was an uplifting, lighthearted book that I hated to see end. Thank you, Archie, for EVERYTHING.

A terrific inside look at the world of football
I grew up watching Archie Manning play for Ole Miss and now cheer for his son, Peyton, with the Colts. Although I knew a lot of Archie's story, this book gives a detailed insider's look at the world of football at all levels and all the changes that have occurred over the past 30 years. It is also a heart-warming story about the Manning family and how they've dealt with everything from Archie's frustrated days playing with the Saints, raising a family in New Orleans (not the easiest place to raise kids!), Peyton's college recruiting process and dealing with Cooper's (their oldest son) life-threatening illness. I always knew that Archie was a humble competitor -- I saw that when he played at Ole Miss -- and it's obviously influenced the way he and his wife raised their sons. In a world where so many kids disrespect authority and eschew hard work, it's refreshing to learn about the Manning kids in another light. And I loved learning all about the behind-the-scenes gyrations of pro football and the college recruiting process.

A fantastic book by two fabulous athletes who also happen to be men of integrity and honor.

Manning
Unlike any other sport, football has captured the hearts of endless fans. Likewise, many fans have fallen in love with a true football family, the Mannings. Manning, by Archie Manning, Peyton Manning, and John Underwood, is an incredible biography, not only of Archie and Peyton Manning, but also of the entire Manning family and the hardships, triumphs, and accomplishments they have endured and achieved.

Manning is the story of the careers of Archie and Peyton. The book does not only portray the lives of these men and their family, but vividly presents the men's opinions on the way the game has changed. The Mannings describe the "cash fever" and "big money madness" of the NFL and present the "rituals of bribery that mark college recruiting." Not only do Archie and Peyton represent true American football players, but professional athletes who resisted money corruption and only play for the love of the game.

The authors seldom use literary devices, but write with a certain style that makes the reader feel as if he has known the Mannings his entire life. The authors' use of a personal style of writing enables the reader to easily relate to the problems these incredible men have faced.

I thought Manning was an amazing book. If you are a fan of the Mannings, or football in general, this is the book for you. The book has no specific theme, but its purpose is to present the life of two of the greatest NFL quarterbacks to ever live and to prove that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.

Great concept; some information is incorrect.
This book is a great concept with, in general, a good execution. But, as I toured the east coast a month or so ago, some of the information in the book was incorrect. There was a mangled URL, an incorrect phone number, and passages about museums which haven't been built yet. I found this book and tried to make a vacation of it; but after being misrouted to 2 of the 5 spots by this book, I wouldn't put 100% faith in it. But I also suppose that's part of the nature of these small museums, and why we have to visit them when we can; you wait, and they're gone.

Cool resource for road-tripping in the U.S.!
If you enjoy discovering unusual places when you travel or you just have strange interests, then you'll appreciate this book. It's a state-by-state listing of small museums covering nearly every kind of human endeavor, including The Louis H. Sullivan Architectural Collection, The Julia C. Bullette Red Light Museum, The New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum, The Museum of Neon Art, The Titan Missile Museum, The Louis P. Klein Broom and Brush Museum, Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Art Museum, and hundreds more.

If you don't feel like driving that far, you'll be amazed at some of the unusual museums that might be in your very own neighborhood... as I was, when I discovered that there's a Cockroach Hall of Fame just a mile away from where I live.

Each museum entry includes a decription with the address, phone, directions, opening hours, and price. Phones and pricing may not be entirely up-to-date, but it's a place to start.

A great addition to any road trip!
This is a great book to take with you as you travel. Even if do not take it with you, this is certainly the book you want to refer as you plan your trip.

There are a slew of museums that sound like they would be interesting to visit. There are many museums that I have visited that were interesting.

For many years, as my husband and I have traveled, we have tried to find the small museums in each of the towns we visited. We have learned that almost every town we visit has a small museum. Unfortunately, many of these museums are not worth the time and effort. This book seems to have the cream of the crop. We know if it's listed in this book, we make the effort to see it.

A great resource for traveling on the road. Visiting small museums (and large) is an easy way to add planned breaks to your driving, stretch your legs, learn about your country, and more. This book can only enhance any trip you take.

A Rare Information Gem
This is a wonderful reference book. The information is superbly presented. Where the entry might be unfamiliar it provides a pronunciation key (exceptionally convenient for foreign or archaic words). The entries themselves are well balanced for readability, content, and completeness. And most articles include a bibliography if you wish to research further.

It is also a reference in which you can get delightfully lost. My searches take me in many directions. It's first class cross-referencing makes an in-depth investigation a snap, but sometimes it is better to ramble. And this is the beauty of the book, unlike structured links with Web or CD encyclopedias, in the Columbia Encyclopedia the links are only encumbered by your imagination and curiosity.

If you are not American, (I'm Canadian) don't worry about obsessive jingoism that often pervades American efforts. The Columbia presentation is evenhanded and globally egalitarian in scope and breadth.

If you don't already own this excellent volume it should be on your bookshelf. If you are a teacher it should be in both the school library and your classroom (grades 6-12), and if you are a parent it should be in your home. The Columbia Encyclopedia is truly a rare and valuable information jewel.

Columbia sets the standard and sets it high!
The sixth edition of Columbia is a distinct improvement over the fifth (CH, Feb'94), which contained not a few embarrassing geographical inaccuracies. Editor Legasse also edited Concise Columbia Encyclopedia. Hefty indeed, the new Columbia contains some 51,000 entries covering a vast array of topics; it is the largest one-volume general encyclopedia in English. Nearly 40 percent of its content has been revised to reflect the political, social, scientific, and technological developments since the fifth edition. Entirely new are some 1,300 entries covering such topics as the Internet, the Ebola virus, and alternative medicine, to name only a few. Among its 6.5 million words are 700 black-and-white illustrations, 80,000 cross-references, and 40,000 bibliographic citations. Articles range in length from a few lines to several pages, usually written in straightforward style free of jargon. A note for readers explains that "information from one article is generally not repeated in another," although numerous articles are properly cross-referenced to related items. Vladimir Putin, for example, is cross-referenced to Chechnya, which is cross-referenced to Dagastan. Entries are arranged alphabetically in boldface; longer articles are paragraphed with italicized subheadings (unlike the fifth edition) and conclude with brief bibliographies. Like its predecessor, the sixth edition dispenses entirely with photographs and portraits of persons, but includes hundreds of useful maps, tables, and diagrams, many new or revised. Other features include a key to pronunciation and a list of abbreviations. Extending a tradition begun in 1935, this version of Columbia is impressive in its sweep, clarity, and authoritativeness, making it a happy choice among one-volume "first-stop" reference works. Highly recommended for home use or for public, high school, or college libraries. Highly Recommended

A lot of information in one book
I bought the Columbia encyclopedia a little over a year ago and now I feel qualified enough to review it.

I'm never amazed at the amount of information that is presented in this book. It has never failed me or my seventh-grade daughter with any of her school related questions. Whether her questions have to do with the population density of Calcutta (population and area in sq. miles), cell reproduction or plate tectonics, I have yet to find something that she needed and it was not there.

The information is presented in a very succinct manner. There is never too much or too little information for a specific entry - always just enough. The "also see" and bibliography references at the end of many entries are very useful. The binding is great. I was afraid that this huge book after constant use would crack at the hinges, but that is not true. This is one of the bulkiest books I've got and, yet, surprisingly, is also one of the strongest. After more than a year's frequent use, the hinges feel as strong as when I bought it and so do the ledge and spine.

This is not a multimedia information center. There are no pictures, only maps and drawings. When you first open it, you are faced with columns and columns of small font text, though it's nicely laid out.

I do not find any social or political bias in the book, but I may not be sensitive to it. One will not find positive or negative references being made on specific issues, although one may find something to the extend of "some academics feel that..." or "in this century XYZ has fallen out of favor with..." The book does not take sides, its stance is neutral and objective with no flavor. It does not offend and its errors (if any) are ones of omission not commission.

It may be a good idea to visit your local library first to take a closer look at its heftiness, lack of pictures and, perhaps, objectivity prior to purchasing it to see if it's something that suits your family's style. If you decide to buy it without examining it first, I don't believe you will be dissapointed - it's a great book and a best buy.

Archie and Edith, Mike and Gloria
Excellent reading for any All in The Family fan. When this show first came out I was too young to remember but love to watch the reruns over and over.

Boy the Way Glenn Miller Played, books that are a hit today!
I thought while reading this book how thoroughly done it was. I thought about how much I loved All in the Family, how connected I felt to each character, how I identified with Mike, Gloria, Edith and even Archie. How real it was to me. When a piece of literature, brings back all of those feelings and memories, it is something to remember. Pictures, stories, Archie-isms and an episode guide are just a few things that make up this book. I recommend it to all Archie Bunker fans and haters alike. This book is one of the best documentations of characters you love to hate, that I have ever come across.

A Portrait of the Family that Changed TV and Beyond !
First there was Duffy's Tavern, then the Honeymooners, (Til Death Do Us Part in the UK) and before Moe's Tavern was ALL IN THE FAMILY. The enormous impact this show had on American society with its controversial subject content and very un-Father Knows Best language and worldview is unquestionable. It was the show that could anger and shock you and drive you to tears one moment, and in the blink of an eye, have you rolling on the floor in laughter. It was one of the first shows to deal with Women's Issues, Bigotry - - no topic was too controversial. This book will help you appreciate it... and yes, it has an episode guide, the trivia and all that stuff too. It was the show that made us look at ourselves and sparked passionate arguements. This is a fascinating, yet incredibly readable history of the show, balancing between sociological analysis and the stuff that any true fan or addict would want to know. Thumbs up for TV fans, and people like me who grew up on it and were deeply effected by the episodes.

This is a great book . I think you should buy it.
This is an excellent book for age 5-1/2 and up. I rate this book four stars. Reggie is sometimes mean. But Moose is there to beat him up. I got into this book because my mom said it reminded her of me and my friend. We sort of acted like Betty and Veronica, because Veronica is sometimes mean to Betty. I am Betty and my friend Aria is Veronica.

I LOVE IT!!
ARCHIE COMIC BOOKS ARE THE ONLY BOOKS THAT REALLY CATCH MY ATTENTION. I HATE READING IN GENERAL, BUT ARCHIE COMIC BOOKS HAVE ME GOING. I LIKE JUGHEAD. HE IS SO FUNNY. AND MOOSE SO DUMB. VERONICA IS MEAN AT TIMES, ESPECIALLY TO BETTY, BUT I LIKE HER. SHE'S GOT CLASS. BETTY ON THE OTHER HAND IS DOWN TO EARTH AND VERY NICE. GOOD JOB!!

So Excellent a Booke
Quite a wonderful book -- a classic of natural history writing. Though much more is known of the life cycle of the sea turtle than was known when Carr wrote, the book remains a classic.

The life of the foremost Sea-Turtle conservationist
Literature as much as natural history, Archie Carr's research, dedication, adventures makes the best introduction to Sea Turtles and the fight to preserve them. Focuses mostly on Carr's work with the green turtle

A fair and objective interpretation of Grey Owl.
I have, over the past few years, come to appreciate the life of Grey Owl. There have been several books written about him and some are excellent; however, the gift of Armand Garnet Ruffo, is found in his attempt to get "under the skin" of Archie Grey owl. There are many statements which are visceral in nature in that the author risks criticism by offering notions and thoughts as to the motives and objectives underlying Grey Owl's actions and written words. This, in itself, is a challenge Ruffo is willing to take. Not unlike those the Belaney (Grey Owl) took. I think Armand comes from a unique perspective as his grandmother, Jane McKee (Espaniel) part Ojibway, knew Archie Grey Owl, thus he was introduced, to the subject, from a subjective point of view. Add to that his desire to share the story in a poetic form (again not unlike Grey Owl's writtings) makes for a most interesting presentation. Similarly, he has the added advantage of being a scholar and teacher which lends itself to the expectation of an authoritative and honest analysis, regardless of the form. I liked the book very much.

a masterpiece of insight and understanding
I was married to Grey Owl & Anahareo`s daughter DAWN until her unexpected death in London, England in June 1984 during our visit there. We were there with an exhibition of art work. For more than twenty-five years I was frequently a part of discussions and comments about the life of Grey Owl. Numerous articles and a few books have been written on the subject. Armand Ruffo`s book THE MYSTERY OF ARCHIE BELANEY, with its poetic narrative and descriptive moods is the best I have witnessed. With Armand`s aboriginal background he understands how wilderness folks think and feel. This book is a must for all those who are interested in the Grey Owl story. Be sure to see the movie coming out in 1999 Co-Produced by Sir Richard Attenborough. Pierce Brosnan plays Grey Owl and a very attractive Quebec aboriginal actress Annie Galipeau plays Anahareo. I believe the book by Armand and the movie as well should win top awards. Pierce Brosnan, a very understanding and down-to-earth gentleman makes a good Archie Belaney. Annie Galipeau is every bit as attractive as my mother-in-law was at her age.

a masterpiece of insight & understanding
excellent reading for those interested in the Grey Owl story

Applied Financial econometrics exponent
It is a good book, but there are some aspects which I find lacking in the book which could be helpful. For example, brief outline answers to some of the problems at the end of the chapter will help most readers no doubt. Also, a more comprehensive cover on the rational bubbles and GARCH type models for asset returns will help no doubt, as well as problems that may arise during implementation. This book is aimed at the advance graduate student who is pretty proficient in theoretical finance and advance econometric issues already.

A classic book on financial econometrics
This is really a classic book on financial econometrics. I like the design of the book. The content is also pretty up-to-date. A little bit advanced - requires solid background in econometrics, analysis, statistics, and some stochastic calculus. The only problem I have is the authors did not provide background data, so it's really hard for people to do self-study like me. If the authors could include a preferred computer program (i.e. Matlab, GAUSS, EViews, etc.) with codes and data, that will make the book a true bible of financial econometrics.

Excellent and Comprehensive Book on Financial Econometrics
In recent years, the economist have used various econometric method in analyses financial market, but though you can discover some excellent book for financial theory, such as Darrell Duffie's "Dynamic Asset Pricing Theory",there is few comprehensive book on the theories and applications of econometric tools for emprirical finance. So when I found this book, I was so excited. Only having read several chapters, I think it an excellent book, though some difficult, and can't help to introduce it. I think every student who is interested in financial market should read it, at least scan it to know the content of this book. If you have this book, then you can throw all other book on this subject, don't waste time to read them, what you need is just this excellent book. Unfortunely I havn't it,and I hope to own it some day. At last, I have to say thank you to Prof. Gregory Chow who brough this book to my University, so I have chance to read such an excellent book.

Han's got a book of his own!
Well, that dashing, daring, and devoius Han Solo has done it again. More excitement, more adventure! Being an avid Star Wars fan, I've spent most of my free time reading and re-reading this book. I love it! I would recomend this to any Star Wars fan, young or old. I tried to get multiple opinions in this book by my friends, and it seems that if you don't know a lick about Star Wars, you probably won't understand some of this book. But if you are familiar with SW, Hang On!! You're on for a pretty wild ride. Now, I will admit it, there are a few parts in there where I felt kind of. . . uh. . . sleepy. ..(Maybe I stayed up longer than I thought reading it. . ) but the abundance of action and suspence quickly banish it away. All in all, I would say this is a very good book. Some might say Han is just to brave (or to stupid) to be realistic. But, as Han would say, "Hey, its Me!"

The Han Solo You Never Knew!
I rated this book an '8' because of the wonderful job the author did in fleshing out the characters of Han Solo and Chewbacca. Back in 1979 (when this story was first published), before the days of 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi', there was only Star Wars. And with only this movie to go on, the author successfully extrapolated characters and events as they might have happened. The story revolves around the exploits of our heroes as they take on one of the endless petty tyrants of the Empire, organized under the heading of 'The Sector Authority'. As Lone Wolf McSolo attempts to help an old flame find her missing father (who has been mysteriously abducted, presumably by the Sector Authority), the stakes are quickly raised as Chewbacca is subsequently taken. The ride is a roller coaster (and you'll see this is literally true if you read the book) as Solo tracks down and rescues his missing persons (and aliens). An enjoyable read and nice setup for the rest of Brian Daley's Han Solo Adventures

A Good Read
A good book that sheds some light on Han Solo's life before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope. A good, cheap read
