This book will occupy a prime spot on my bookshelf. I've had to use a bunch of different books to find this kind of information before. It's nice to see such a wide range of topics from discrete math covered so thoroughly.

This book talks about the fact that fish have no pain and it explains why. I always wondered about that, but you don't want to appear too dumb and ask. This book is great explaining hooks and types of hooks. How to clean the fish and it also tells you how to make lures. A cute book for any beginner.

I am an adult, former president of an animal welfare group that stresses humane education and information. This is the best all around dog book for children and for adults who have either never had a dog and are thinking of getting one (adopt from an animal shelter or humane group, please!) or who want to learn more about dogs.
I have had dogs and read dog books all my life, and I learned some interesting and fun things from this book. Besides being very informative and accurate, this book is one of those rare ones that people actually read (versus buying with the intent to do so some day).
It is filled with short informational boxes, covers everything lightly from the evolution of the dog to how to understand what a dog is trying to tell you! I have had 9 year old boys read it from cover to cover, a rare thing. Lots of photos, tips, and information. I recommend it to all dog owners and lovers.

My four year old and I went through this book and enjoyed itbecause it could be used in many ways. Besides being a regular ABCbook, the the pictures and colors are excellent. We had fun trying toname all of the items in the pictures that began with that letter. My four year olds favorite part was finding the ant and zebra on each page. Overall, a good book. END

It's funny to realize that there were really no cookbooks for this "meal" that everyone enjoys. So I got this book, and there was everything from dishes to serve the kids' friends at slumber parties to great recipes for making those too expensive power bars that are perfect for breakfast. I particularly like using this book's recipes for my cocktail parties (I first saw it reviewed in Playboy of all places, because they loved the sexy dishes for two that are featured in the book), since the whole idea behind this guide is simple, appealing, small treats that you can cook up without a lot of fuss. It emphasized improvization. Stocking a few key items (even some new ones that are very versatile). And having fun with this quirky, miniature meal. And the writing is just as fun-loving. Very witty, and the perfect gift for college kids, newlyweds, or anyone looking to expand their repertoire of casual, satisfying bites.

This book has softly-shaded, almost dreamlike, watercolor pictures that are soothing to look at and the text flows easily and poetically. My daughter, age six, loves this book and we often read it before bed because of its calming quality. The story is about moving to a new home, from the cat's perspective, and if you've ever moved with a cat you know how the cat behaves is true. This book is as much a joy to hear being read as it is to look at. Although the suggested reading level is "baby-preschool," I think early elementary-level children will appreciate the poetic text even more so. It's definitely a favorite in our home.

I have searched high and low for a wonderful Hanukkah story and have always felt something was missing from each one of them...they never seemed to quite hit on what I, as a Jew in Texas, feel at Hanukkah. I am sure many Jewish parents like myself have been waiting for this book....it touches all the bases: the history of Hanukkah, the foods, the presents, but also the conflict with Christmas (which has been treated in a sensitive, positive and even uplifting way in this story). Through the description of one family's eight-day holiday, the book suggests ways to celebrate and treasure each day of this holiday that makes a Jew "proud of your religion." This book also explores tzedakah, sharing, and world community and acceptance. It is truly a celebration of Hanukkah, but even more, it is a celebration of being Jewish. I know my kids--and even myself--needed to hear this as we head into the Christmas season with all it's inherent conflicts and mixed emotions (especially in Texas!!)

This is the only anthology of poems that we currently have formy 1 1/2 year old daughter and I am not sure it can be topped. Theillustrations are wonderful, from lyrical fish, to beret-wearing little girls throwing tantrums. The poems are from all over, and from all time periods, some by established writers, like Robert L. Stevenson, and others by unknown authors. Not all of the poems are big hits with us, but 85% are right on the money. "Dr. Stickles Tickled Me" really helped break the ice at recent trip to the pediatrician, and "Silvery Silvery, Over the Trees, the Moon Drifts by on a Runaway Breeze" makes a great bedtime verse. I bet most of us don't remember much poetry from our childhood, but this book makes re-learning it all great fun.

There is a great mixture of new and more traditional stories which I never got bored of reading.
Favourites include "The Stowaways" and "Handsel and Gristel" as well as "The Guest who ran away".
It doesn't matter where you open the book, you can always find something to amuse you.
