Well, the answer is in this little tome as it includes translations of all of the Non-English passages making you as "smart" as Brother William. This book furthers your experience when reading "The Name of the Rose" as you now can decode the juicy clues. Umberto Eco's "The Name of the Rose" is about crimes in a medieval abbey and the obsession of it monks with heresies, apocalyptic visions, and forbidden knowledge.
This "Key" is a delightful guide to the phrases and bizarre characters and has mirthful anecdotes that you're sure to enjoy and you'll solve the mystery of the seven deaths as fast as Brother William and enjoy the intrigue in doing so.

I also recommend BUZZ YOUR MP3 for anyone interested in music, BUZZ YOUR ZINE which I'm going to use to promote my online magazine, and BUZZ YOUR ONLINE AUCTION which is just fantastic -- it'll make ebay-sellers go nuts! There are so many great ideas in all these books. I can't wait to see what else Pigeonhole Press puts out next!

Scholars have rather endlessly debated how unified the allegory really is, and the trend recently seems to have shifted to seeing the two authors as less in opposition, and more composing a complete treatment of courtly Love.
For the casual (non-academic) reader like myself, the experience is rather less unified. The de Lorris section is quite lyrical and fits more with what I imagine an allegorical dream poem to be. When Idleness leads the dreamer into the garden of Diversion and when Love shoots him with the five deadly arrows that bind him to the Rose, the imagery is compelling and lovely.
On the other hand, the second part, while often *very* funny is much more obviously satirical with long digressions that focus more on social mores than on the world of the Dreamer as established in the first half. The effect is sort of like a serious and literary Spike Jones song-- which is not at all a bad thing.

Dean Barrett Author, Hangman's Point Village East Books, NYC Publishers of Fine Fiction on Asia HANGMAN'S POINT - A Novel of Hong Kong

This book seems to be written for women. I wish every man I know would read and understand it. Women will find much of themselves in "Lip Service", but be prepared to lose yourself in it as well! I treasure my copy! I hope MJ Rose will continue to give us many more erotic thrillers!

In Lip Service, Julia Sterling's life couldn't be better. Well, at least the social circle around her thinks so. After all, she is married to a respected psychiatrist, has a wonderful stepson and lives on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Her ordered life is suddenly threatened when she decides to research the perverse world of phone sex for a book. She has discovered a sexy, perverse and sinister world in the fantasies that she concocts for the anonymous callers. This is a world that her husband knows nothing about. Will she tell him her dark secret? What will happen to Julia? And are sexual fantasies and fetishes as disturbing as one might think?
This book covers several taboo subjects regarding male and female sexuality. It questions morality and the inhibitions that society has placed upon us. I marvel at Rose's courage to write about such thought-provoking subject. This is one of the best thrillers I have ever read. I recommend it most highly.

Jordan's past has come pack to stalk her, during a time when she is trying to re-adjust to her ever maturing daughter, get back together with her husband and help a patient who has become obsessed with her life. In Fidelity is what I would call a good example of suspense romantica. The underlying theme of romance is spiced with erotica and suspense. Strong characterization and plot make this book a page-turner. I can't wait to see what MJ Rose comes up with next.

thriller that I couldn't put down . . . so when I came across
her second novel, IN FIDELITY, I naturally made a point
to read it too.
While not quite as captivating as her first book, I also
liked this one . . . it is the story of a psychotherapist,
haunted by the long-ago murder of her father, who
fears the killer's revenge when she learns that he has
been paroled from prison.
There's an interesting subplot involving the infidelity
of her husband . . . in addition, the story is moved
along by believable encounters with patients, her
teenage daughter, etc.
And then there are the parts involving sex . . . though
not quite as hot as LIP SERVICE, this book definitely
would carry an R rating if it were a movie.
Lastly, I liked the dialogue . . . it was very realistic.
There were many memorable passages; among them:
We made love for hours that first time, leaving my bedroom only for something to drink, or eat. We smoked some marijuana and spent the rest of the night listening to a combination of classical and rock music. I watched Robert change the music on my stereo. We listened to records then, and I marveled at the care with which he handled them: only by the edges, not allowing his fingers to touch the surface of the plastic.
[the daughter in response to her mother's food purchases]
"That's not the point. It's about greed. About being aware of what things cost. You know, there's a Zen story about a very rich man who died and someone asked what he'd left. And someone else said--Every thing. You can't keep it. You have to share it. It's not really ours."
It wasn't an exaggeration. I finally understood. If you accept that nothing is perfect and are willing to forgive, if you look at the people around you and recognize them for who they are and for the gifts they have to offer and not damn them for who they cannot be or what they cannot give, if you acknowledge that we are all perfect and imperfect, then you really can live happily ever after.

Dr. Jordan Sloan's world shatters all over again when her father's murderer is released on parole. The key witness to his murder trial, she fears that he'll seek revenge -- though everyone, including her daughter, seems to think that she is just being paranoid. A psychotherapist, she tries to help her patients' problems while trying to figure the psyche of murderers and coming to terms with her about to be ex-husband's infidelity. Jordan is bound to suffer several more betrayals -- which leads to a spellbounding conclusion.
Suspenseful, erotic and, yes, romantic, In Fidelity should be devoured in one sitting! I highly recommend it!
