Manual of Equine Practice 2nd Edition
A handbook to rival the most extensive textbooks devoted to equine veterinary medicine and surgery! The second edition of The Manual of Equine Practice still retains the same easily readable format as the first edition, but the original authors have gathered world renowned experts in their fields, to assist.

The book is divided into body systems and includes individual conditions as 'sub-chapters'. They are then broken down into history and presenting signs, clinical findings and diagnosis, differential diagnosis (invaluable reference), and treatments. This is the same format as you would use if a animal were presented to you in your practice.

Overall, a superb book and completely invaluable for vets, vet techs and students. Perhaps the only drawback is that I wouldn't recommend it for the average owner and/or trainer, unless they have a very good understanding of veterinary practice in general.

Moss Roses
This is not a simplistic story of tragedy and triumph. Through pain, tortured souls travel different paths to cope with physical and emotional abuse at the hands of those supposedly most trusted. Relative is a term that can have two meanings here, because each persons journey can only truly be understood by that person alone. That idea comes through loud and clear. Their way of dealing, learning and growing after varying degrees of tragedy is as individual as each persons genetic make up. There is humor and ultimate triumph for some, while others continue on different journeys that have not lead to clarity just yet. Read this diary and see if you know people like this, I bet that you do, and learn from them. It is o.k. to be anywhere along your path as long as you keep searching for meaning in all of life's trials. That is what I learned from this book.

David Gilbert became my hero. He will become yours!
David's story starts on the day the German army attacked Poland at the beginning of World War II. It chronicles one man's struggle to save his family from the Nazis and the heroic efforts he made to save hundreds of other people in the process. David never stopped believing in life and he never stopped believing in God. Through every twist and turn first, while hiding from the Nazis then in the Warsaw Ghetto and finally in Bergen Belsen his quick thinking kept his family safe.

You will not put this book down until David's final liberation. This book is a tribute to his zest for life. Through all the death and destruction David never lost his faith.

David Gilbert is a true hero. His story makes personal what now seems so far removed. It should be read by all those who want to learn from the inhumanity of the Nazi era. This book should be required high school reading. David's story is about life and one man's triumph over incredible odds.

Childhood Memories
I remember reading this story over and over in elementary school. It was a favorite for everyone in my class and would create fights over who got to borrow it from the classroom. One of my fondest memories of 2nd grade was performing a play of this story.

Continued Excellence.
The author has again collected and presented the statistics of the american economy in a reasonably objective set of charts and tables. Don't buy into the spin presented from any politician, look at the data and decide for yourself.

After several years of outrageous growth in the tech sector this should be mandatory reading for each one of us. As many of us watch NASDAQ and track the value of our options we need to understand where we really fit in the economy.

A "must read" for rowers
Dan Boyne has written a riveting story of determination, drive, talent and committment as he chronicles the early history of American woman in international rowing competition. The book includes a compelling profile of Carie Graves, arguably the finest American woman rower and Harry Parker, legendary Harvard crew coach. Harry's job was to select 9 women from a pool of 36 talented athletes to compete in the 1975 World Championship. Women in American rowing were a new phenomena and not highly regarded by the international rowing community. The book describes the selection and training of the crew and, finally, the racing at the Worlds and the surprising result. Boyne weaves a wonderfully entertainer story and it's hard to put down. This is "must" read for any rower, man or women, or anyone interested in what it takes to get to the top in international competition.

The Red Rose Crew
Being a female rower, especially an older one, has many challenges... and rewards. Something I've learned about from personal experience. They're difficult to communicate with those who aren't involved with the sport (the risk of terminal boredom being very high) but form an incredible bond with those who are. This book, on the experiences of the pioneers of women's rowing in the 70's, tells it like it is, and makes it fascinating. Dan Boyne has recreated the whole experience of these women, and it's an experience that is, fortunately or unfortunately, not so far from the present day. It's an impressive addition to the tiny canon of rowing-lit, and even more importantly to the growing canon of books about women athletes and competitors, and what it takes to be in the game. A riveting read.

The Tabula Rasa of US Women's Rowing
If Odysseus could have read Daniel J.Boyne's book 'The Red Rose Crew" he would have had no reason to be tied to the mast to cox his ear-waxed crew through the Sirenum Scopuli unscathed. The Sirens would have gladly faced their un-timely end with the knowledge that women's rowing had a champion who took the time and effort to chronical a arduous voyage that will be remembered as the break though of woman's competitive rowing in the United States. In a time when story telling has been all but lost as a media to impart history or knowledge, a well-credentialed Daniel Boyne has wove a rich tapestry of facts, protocol, commentary, technical knowledge and colorful antidotes into a narrative that are easily remembered and re-called. Every sport has its legends; Babe Ruth, Billie Jean King, Pele', the utterance of each name conjures a vivid image of the particular athlete's prowess and character. US women's rowing has Ernestine Bayer, Carie Graves, Gail Pierson, and Harry Parker just to mention a few of the people Daniel J.Boyne has profiled as the "Who's Who" of US women's rowing. One of the many pearls of rowing information the author relates is how a good crew has the characteristics of a good baseball team. Rowers spend many hours debating the age-old rower's question of whether power, or technique is more important or why coaches' conduct seat races. Mr. Boyne's account of how the 'The Red Rose Crew" was formulated is a wealth of information for any rower or coach looking for the literal and figurative gut wrenching answers. Rowers and coaches who have, or will have to weather the trials and travail of choosing and rowing into the seats of a boat will relate to the myriad of variables and anguish and elation. US Rowing is fortunate that Daniel J.Boyne has taken the time and energy to share his knowledge and insight of where US Women's rowing has been and the inevitable heights that it destined to rise.

an overview of buzz your mp3 by brian freeman
...Chapter One (Getting Started) is a short, but important introduction to this concept of "buzzing." The author's voice is particular interesting. He sounds like he's just sitting around chatting with some friends. I find that makes a textbook like this much more enjoyable.

Chapter Two (Don't Read this workbook!) explains that Buzz Your Mp3 isn't a book to just read, you need to interact with it, try some of the ideas, and use it to brainstorm your own plans. It's an interactive book, basically. I think this is good advice for any self help book.

Chapter Three (Offline Buzz Tips) is where we really get into the meat of things. The author lists and explains over thirty tips for promoting music via gigs, radio air play, your local community, etc. Stuff in the real world, not on the Internet. I found these tips to be very helpful. A little more explanation and examples could have helped, but there is certainly enough information here to get you started.

Chapter Four (Online Buzz Tips) is a lot like chapter three, only the author focuses solely on promoting work online. A lot of good ideas. More examples would have been good, but this is a good starting point.

Chapter Five (The Buzz Plan) explains how to take the seventy or so tips in the previous chapters and build a game plan (steps you will follow to promote your music). Maybe you'll start by arranging gigs and giving out freebies and go from there. Or maybe you'll start by building a website and joining listserves. That kind of stuff. Very informative.

Chapter Six (Brainstorming) is a short chapter about brainstorming. The key, according to the author, is to brainstorm with a group of people, whether online or offline. I think he is right. Three minds are always much better than one. You'd be surprised what ideas you can come up with in a group that you'd never think of on your own.

Chapter Seven (Dos and Donts of Buzz) explains what not to do when promoting -- spamming and the like. Make sure you read this chapter before you do anything else!

Chapter Eight (Top Publicists give advice) is really neat, but I think it was originally meant for a book on promoting books. Nonetheless, their explanations of what they do is very illuminating. Well worth the cost of this book, actually.

Chapter Nine (Other Musicians Got Buzz) is one of the best chapters in the book! The author allows a lot of bands discuss their buzz plans and how they're promoting themselves. There are some really neat ideas here.

Chapter Ten (Now is Now) is one of my favorite chapters. The author obviously really likes this band and he walks you through how they got their self-released single played all over the world while spending very little money. The band is called NOW-is-NOW, by the way.

Chapter Eleven (Rock Band Live's Fan Club) is a pretty long interview with the director of the fan club for the band Live (Lightning Crashes, I Alone, Selling the Drama, The Dolphin's Cry, Overcome). Lots of neat stuff here, especially if you are a Live fan. But this will show you what happens with any fan club or street team.

Chapter Twelve (The Art of Web Promotion) discusses promoting on the web in general. These is just the basics, but it is a good start.

Chapter Thirteen (Finals Thoughts) is a nice little chapter that ties everything up. There are also two appendixes that promote the Buzz message board and mailing list.

All in all, I have to say I enjoyed this little eBook. I hope there is a second edition with even more interviews and tips (my favorite parts of this book) and a print edition would be nice, too. I highly recommend Buzz Your Mp3. It is well worth the price. I wish there was a print version, but the ebook was very easy to work with and it runs via a free program you can download here at Amazon...

best I've ever read
I've spent way too much money this year on books and classes about promoting music. But that was better than what I did last year, which was waste a lot of money on "doing it my own way" -- which didn't work at all. So I tried all these books and did what they said and got nothing. Nothing at all. A few gigs, a few copies of my demo sent out, but man, I was getting that before.

So a friend tells me about this Brian Freeman dude. Says he knows a lot about promoting stuff. I check out his website and see that he has this book. Only it isn't like a real book, it's an "interactive workbook" that you download to your computer (it opens using some free software that should already be pre-installed on your machine, but if it isn't, Amazon has it for free). I thought this was kind of cool.

So I paid my $9 and downloaded Buzz Your MP3, and started following the steps in the workbook. Like the man says, you don't read this book, you use it. 100s of tips, lots of ideas, and a really neat section on how to brainstorm (remember that from school, when the teacher would tell you to brainstorm some ideas? Well Freeman tells you what your teacher didn't tell you!).

So far things are going pretty well. Got some good gigs lined up, I'm going to appear on a local TV program, been doing radio shows, and I had some agents interested in my demo. I don't know where this is going to lead, but I'm doing 1000 times better now than I was last year. I haven't even really started using all the tips in this book. It's that good.

Also, the stuff about LIVE and NOW is NOW was really cool -- very motivating.

I highly recommend Buzz Your MP3 for any musician!

I read this back when it first came out
I read this electronic book when it first came out and it totally changed the way I promote my music. I've sold over 1000 copies of my CD in the last year, and a lot of those sales came from my mailing list and my website -- which I built using tips from this book. I didn't write a review back then because a lot of good stuff had already been said about it here, but then I read some dude trashing the book on a message board. Why? Well, it turns out HE ALSO WROTE a book on promoting music. Whatever.

Buzz Your Mp3 is packed with a lot of great information, a neat story about NOW is NOW, and an awesome interview about the band +live+ with the director of their fanclub!

To summarize: 5/5, 5 stars, Buzz Your mp3 rocks hard!

Fact vs Fiction
If I hadn't already read several articles and a nonfiction book about Madam Walker before reading The Black Rose, I might have been seduced into believing that Tananarive Due really was telling a mostly accurate story of the life of this extraordinary entrepreneur, philanthropist and political activist who changed the lives of thousands of black women. But even allowing for the fact that Ms. Due has written a fictionalized account, it is inexcusable that her book contains so much misleading information when so much truth is available to the writer who takes the time to do necessary digging. Just to mention a few specific errors in Ms. Due's novel: Madam Walker had five siblings rather than two; she had three husbands rather than two; her first husband was not killed in a race riot; her parents did not die of yellow fever; she did not build a school in Africa; at least two of the main characters-Charlotte and America-exist only in Due's imagination. While Ms. Due claims that she has written a novel "in the spirit of Madam Walker," it seems presumptuous of her to make such a claim since she has so violated the facts of this amazing woman's life. Ultimately inaccurate stories do a disservice to our history and allows others, who are inclined to discount us, to dismiss the truth of our outstanding foremothers.

As "Grand" as The Madam Herself
Mere words cannot justly express the greatness of Tananarive Due's magnificent fictional account of the life of one of Americas greatest rag-to-riches stories: i.e., namely the saga of Sara Breedlove McWilliams Walker, better known as Madam C.J. Walker. A monumental tribute to the concept of self-determination and intestinal fortitude, the story of Madam Walker is inspirational and totally captivating. Miss Due expertly carries the reader from Walker's humble and devastating post-Civil War beginnings through harsh economic and social struggles to world-wide acclaim as the first black female millionaire. Along the way, Madam Walker rubs elbows with the likes of pioneer educators Mary McLeod-Bethune and Booker T. Washington, composer James Weldon Johnson, social activist W.E.B. Dubois, the great opera star Caruso, who is credited with naming Walker's estate, and, to a lesser extent, President Theodore Roosevelt. But, it is not just the famous who are instrumental in the making of this truly outstanding woman. Her parents Owen and Minerva Breedlove, siblings Louvenia and Alex, respective husbands Moses and C.J, as well as trusted friends and employees, and adversaries are all vividly characterized by memorable descriptive passages and lines. Whether or not the events of the novel are romanticized to fir the larger-than-life Walker, the book is one that accomplishes the author's intent: i.e., it elevates an American original to her place of importance as one of this country's "queens" of business and social change.

A Beautiful Black Rose
The Black Rose is the perfect title for this beautiful novel by one of America's finest writers. Tananarive Due is awesome! This read is written with so much creative style, the words, sentences and scenes make you feel as if you are right in the middle of the cotton field with the main character. You will not be able to put this read down. This read is like a love story; Madam Walker's love affair with everyone who passes through her life, every dream and positive or negative encounter, its about love. Ms. Due captures the story of an American Historian, Madam CJ Walker, and she guides her readers through the plight of the Madam's destiny. Its a beautiful affair.
