An excellent book for creative boys.
In Henry Reed Incorporated, Henry spends the summer months at a relitives now retiered farm. He keeps track of his daily adventures in a "journal", uses his imagination and enginuity to fill his time. Henry begins by comandeering the barn as his base of operation, and opens a buisness selling bait (worms if I recall). His discoveries and sense of intreigue remind the older reader of a time not so long lost, and exsposes the young reader to a world of imaginitive posabilities. This book remains in my thoughts evan after 20 years of reading it, and comes highly recomended to all ages' of 'boys'.

Introductory algebra, programmed
This is an excellent book both for those who need to learn the basics of pre-algebra concepts and for those well into algebra functions.

This book offers a 1-2-3, a-b-c step-by-step approach to learning complex algebraic problems. Excellent for self-study or to assist you in understanding most text book jargon.

Highly recommend.

Kaeti is delightful
Kaeti and Company is the first of two short story collections that Keith Roberts wrote about Kaeti, his dream girl. There is no unifying theme to the stories apart from a brief authorial foreword to each. But even the forewords are fiction. Roberts presents Kaeti and her friends as actors on a stage. Each foreword involves him in a dialogue in which he explains to Kaeti what her role will be in the new story. She always has the chance to turn the role down if she wishes (though she never does). The stories tell tales from the past, present and future and the characters that Kaeti and her friends play vary wildly in each. Sometimes she is a heroine, sometimes a villain, often she is ambiguous. It's a delightful conceit and perversely it really does provide a unification to a completely diverse range of themes and characters - quite an artistic triumph. And the stories are little gems, one and all.

2nd person Privilege
This book is one of the oddest I have ever read. It qualifies as science-fiction in only the broadest sense of the word. The sub-genre of apocalyptic future fiction would be a much more apt category for it.
The entire narrative is written in secon-person, as in "You are walking... you stand up." The narrator (you) is a young girl being raised in an institutional enviornment meant to foster her for a career within the society's elite ranks. When she runs away, the book take off in a spiraling Alice in Wonderlandesque journey that carries you thorough a society whose rules are as vague as its inhabitants.
The most thrilling aspect of this book is its novel narrative structure that will cause its reader to re-evaluate entirely the way one reads any book hereafter. Highly recommended!

The New Millennium Diet Revolution
Published in Paperback by Prominence Pubns (01 January, 2000)

A New Revolution In Eating
Dr. DeOrio clearly explains the evolution of eating in America. Through experience and science we finally arrive at understanding the importance in proper dietary balance and food selection. Dr. DeOrio identifies the four most important factors in eating. One, the balance of macronutrients (fats, carbs, and protein). Two, selecting foods according to your blood type. Thirdly, the energetics in food or macrobiotics of eating. Dr. DeOrio also identifies dangerous foods according to the pollutants and chemicals they have been exposed.

I found this fascinating reading. It really clarified my understanding of health and eating. The book also gives information on a simple plan to incorporate these four important keys into our lifestyle on a daily basis. The book closes with a section on Candida, a dangerous menace most people are unaware of.

I have already begun incorporating the 4 points into my life in the simple plan outlined in the book. Already, I have lost weight (only 2 weeks) and my energy has increased by 50%. A Great Book!

Great Resource for Living History
I own both this volume and volume 2 which covers English Civil War Cavalry. They are both part of the Osprey Men-At-Arms series. These books are not history books per say as they are not accounts of persons, places and events, but rather they detail the clothing, weapons and equipment of the Royalist and Parliamentarian infantry during the English Civil War as well as providing details on troop training, recruitment, and regimental and company structure. The illustrations are very detailed and by themselves are a wonderful resource especially for re-enactors.

To Wrestle With Demons: A Psychiatrist Struggles to Understand His Patients and Himself

A deliciously contrarian view of the psychiatric profession.
The authors will be familiar to any regular reader of alt.flame.psychiatry. Ablow and Coles have a long-standing reputation as two of the most provocative--and talented--investigators of the region where social norms, criminal activity, and the human brain meet. That's brain, not mind, and the distinction is an important one when approaching A & C's body of work. Wielding an informed position best described as "neo-materialism," the authors masterfully unearth the links between doctor and patient, criminal and victim, normalcy and deviance. In particular, this work puts to rest many of the issues raised in Danielski's "The Relationship of the Physician and the Trauma Patient," [1986] and Bearden's "Shrinks and Other Friends" [1992]. Please don't get the impression that A & C's work is simply another dry academic work on patient/doctor interaction, though. This is also a penetrating first-person account of one doctor's frightening but ultimately redemptive plunge into the nightmarish world of the mentally disturbed. A tasty read, and highly recommended for everyone, from fans of true-crime to serious academics hungering for the latest in therapeutic theory.
