Wonderful Treaty on Contemplation - Dzogchen Style
Namkhai Norbu is an amazing teacher: clear and precise. In this translation of the Longde Series of Dzogchen Teachings, Garab Dorje (Ancient Dzogchen Big-Wig)shows how to maintain contemplation Day and Night. Wonderful introduction, excellent translation of the Text, amazing commentary to follow; Norbu makes the Evening, Night, and Morning practices simple and easy to understand. This text is a kind of Dream-Yoga/Daily-Yoga cream center. It gives you ways to smooth the edges of your Dzogchen practice. I found it easy to read and informative: a real Boon!

A Direct Way to Enlightenment
In this work, Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, an eminent Dzogchen master of modern times, gives a direct way how to practice the Essence of Tibetan Yogic Practice called "Dzogchen" - "the Great Perfection". Please bare in mind that the openness of the teacher's style - with no unclear mystics - is a gift rare to find nowadays. Good luck in your journey to Self-Realization!

Top Notch Reference
This volume is one of the best reference materials available for the MEP or Architectural Engineer. I found the descriptive detail and illustration that aided me in the learning process. I reccomend it highly.

An author's view:
My part of this book (mechanical and plumbing) is designed to first show how to minimize the need for mechanical equipment by designing with the climate and site firmly in mind. First configure a building to optimize daylighting, solar heating, and various climate-appropriate passive cooling methods. Also, to store rainwater when appropriate. Then, proceed to choose and size the back-up equipment. In this way, designers conserve non-renewable energy, utilize natural (on-site) energy sources, and also help building occupants stay in touch with the outdoors. I believe that we'll tend to care more about a clean outdoor environment if we are kept aware of its condition.
For a summary of this approach, read Chapter One. I hope you enjoy this book, even when it is your textbook! That was my object. Suggestions? I'm at jreyn@darkwing.uoregon.edu

Not 'The Dream Songs', but still worthwhile
I was a little confused by what Berryman was trying to do in this book. Like "Love and Fame," "Carp on the Fly" shows a different Berryman from the one we meet in "The Dream Songs." Here the emphasis seems to be on man's relationship with nature, both outer and inner, and the predatory nature of our connections with that larger world. The use of fish imagery also, perhaps, suggests the pre-birth, womb-nestled state which haunts Berryman's work and, I imagine, haunted his life as well -- in the anti-poetic society in which he lived, he was truly a fish out of water. Berryman's complicated attitude toward Christianity is reflected in the image of the fisherman, whose bright hooks draw fish upwards toward the surface, where they meet a kind of death that is also a transcendence, a shudder of pure, mortal joy.

You're Fishing For WHAT?
I can finally come out of the closet! Yes, I fish for Carp. Initially with bait but now with a fly rod. This book is a super introduction to the freshwater Bonefish. Carpfishing on the Fly has all you need to get started. Whether it's tackle, tactics or fly patterns you're looking for it's in this book. Of course, there is a great section on why to fish for carp as well as sections on the life cycle and biology of the Golden Salmon. Chances are good you'll find carp near where you live. Grab this book and your fly rod and head for the water.

The best book I ever saw
This book is great for any carp angler even if you don't fly fish. It talks about in debth the behavore of a feeding and non feeding carp. I give it 15 thumbs up

Just Cause

Very Good, Could be Shorter.
This is a creative thriller with good twists and turns in plot. The author is obviously good at characterization, but seems shy about pursuing it, instead worrying too much about storyline. The book would go from 3 to 5 stars if only the best plot elements were retained, and character development were emphasized. And, as always in this genre of mystery/thriller, the ending is wild, unbelievable, confusing, and never really ties up loose ends. Nevertheless, a good read, if only for one to ponder its potential.

Mind Games and Deceptions
Miami reporter Matt Cowart receives a letter from Robert Earl Ferguson, a prisoner sitting on Death Row. He says he is innocent of the crime he was convicted for and, after talking to him and doing a little bit of investigating, Matt agrees that Ferguson may have been unfairly treated. He decides to write a story about Ferguson, and it's a good story. Heck, it's so good that he wins a couple of awards. Not only that, but it's convincing enough to get the case reopened.

But'what if he got it wrong! What if he was lied to and was manipulated by a killer into helping him be released from prison.

Suddenly, there is doubt in every piece of evidence and every word of a confession so that Matt finds it difficult to reconcile the possible harm he has done. Added to Matt's woes is another Death Row inmate, a Hannibal Lector type, who has taken it upon himself to play all sorts of mind games with him. In order to ease his mind and try to minimise any damage done by possibly setting a killer free, he teams up with the detective he virtually accused of being dirty and starts investigating the man he helped acquit.

John Katzenbach is a master at putting his characters through psychological turmoil. They're left to wrestle with their consciences as they dwell heavily on the consequences of their actions. It's this inner conflict that dictates the flow of the story and is a remarkably effective tool to build up the feeling of tension. It all adds up to a stunning thriller filled with doubts and blind alleys.

Excellent novel, superb theme, talented prose
I was stunned to read the bad reader review of this book -- could it be that the central theme is a bit too difficult for people to comprehend? Theme...yes, IMO this book has a deeply disturbing theme, which has not been recognized by the majority. The disturbing aspect is that a journalist CAN be manipulated; awards are given out based on mistakes; sociopathic serial killers are capable of nothing but murder and deception. The talented Katzenbach writes prose that flies, soars with poetic brilliance; I'd read his work, even if the storyline didn't interest me. I love beautiful prose, even if it's describing gutter-life. Kudos for ALL his books!

Ballroom Dancing: The Romance, Rhythm and Style

let down
The book had too many poor photos. They were often so blurry they could hardly be seen. The better pictures were all split in the crack of the book and the good quality photos were of nonsense.

Great book
Mr. Reynolds covers a wide range of territory and does a real service to the ballroom dancing community with this book. I found it to be very well-written and informative. I think this is especially good because it was not written by a dance instructor, but a musician with a sharp eye and a love for the human pageant. This is perhaps best suited for beginners, amateurs, and spectators since it is essentially non-technical, yet it's very explicit regarding why people dance and otherwise sacrifice their lives to it.

A Lot of Fun!
OK...if you are a professional ballroom dancer, maybe you will find flaws in this book. I've read your criticisms of this book in the Amazon reviews. But, to an amateur (like me) who has only had 25 lessons, I thought this book was thrilling! I loved the color photography of the dancers in their glitzy outfits. I loved learning about what goes on before and after a competition. I loved learning about the history of the dance steps and famous ballrooms. This book gives you a wonderful inside look at ballroom dancing and I recommend it. It also makes an excellent coffee table book. People who don't even do ballroom dancing are fascinated with it and enjoy talking about it. So there!

Back In Form !!!!!
Yep after months and months of ranting and criticizing that the red book publishers (Wrox) have lost their magic touch, just when we were about to give up on them, they return with an outstanding book, probably one of the best in their Beginning series ever, and coming back in form in such style, this is simply unbelievable - Beginning C# is all I needed.
Working as a developer in ASP for over 3 years now, but never actually having tried my hands in a real hardcore programming language, I bought EACH AND EVERY book on C# being published since the past one year, but couldn't get past the 40th page of any of the books, they were designed for hardcore programmers and for a moment I wondered if Microsoft and other authors were leaving pure ASP programmers down the drain.
Beginning C# is the answer to all the prayers if you've faced the same delima as I have.
First the drawbacks.
Someone at wrox has decided that publishing a book less than 1000pages is a crime.so I guess I can let go of that. This book has 1031 pages.
Having multiple authors at times irritatingly breaks the smooth flow of explanations from chapter to chapter. GDI+ may be understanding enough as a chapter but the manner of explanations and approach to "try it out" examples is suffocating, irritating and makes you want to tear the entire chapter out of the book.
Also some examples are NOT WORKING and THIS CAN GET YOU FRUSTRATED, so be WARNED.
The plus points.
25 chapters, precise to the point, length of each chapter kept under 25 to 30 pages. Basic aim of each chapter is to explain the topic and right away get your hands dirty with examples. Each example explained step by step.
OOP being an integral part of C# comes only on Ch#8 after you have grown sufficiently confident enough to open Visual Studio and write basic programs for Windows/Web.
This according to me is a very intelligent planning of chapters and hence non of the chapters come across as speaking to you in a foriegn language or in a manner of saying that "sorry if you don't understand us , you are an idiot"....
This book can be held at the same high teaching standards set by Beginning ASPDatabases/Beginning ASP/Beginning JavaScript.

The only other book which even comes close to this is C# By Herb Schildt. Which is another exceptionally good book for beginners, though it does not touch the wide range of topics as Beg.C#
With this book Wrox is back in form.
Simply put... An Amazing Achievement....

Great book, highly recommended
Wanting to move up to a more sophisticated WEB language (from ASP,VB) I've bought quite a few books on .Net and C#. However, all of them left me with a lot of questions on how to just get started with the language.

This book solves all those problems. Anyone new to C# or just object oriented programming, can learn from this book.

The way that Karli eases you into the concepts and describes what each line of code does is extremely helpful.

This book is probably NOT for the Intermediate to Advanced programmer as Karli covers a lot of basic programming concepts. However, It also is a great primer for anyone wanting exposure to the language.

My favorite C# book...
I wanted to learn C# (and learn more about .Net), and I'm coming from a mostly VB and ASP background. I was happy with Wrox's "C# Programming with the Public Beta" book (co-written by Watson), but wanted something that was more complete. At close to 1000 pages, this book certainly FEELS complete. It is also smartly outlined with excellent examples and exercises at the end of each chapter (but where are the answers??). Best of all once you step through the chapters on Windows and the web, there are TWO complete Case Studies (something I love about the Wrox books), and an article about building an Online Shopping Cart Using C#.
This book is similar in quality to Ivor Horton's "Beginning Java 2" books. (Only with better examples, in my opinion).

You Must Read Stone Fox
This book was called Stone Fox and it was by John Reynolds Gardiner. My favorite character was the dog named Searchlight. She was an old dog from Indiana. I also liked the character named Willy. Willy was a boy who was ten years old. He wanted to try to help his grandpa because he was sick. Willy's grandpa also had to pay lots of taxes. So Willy and his dog Searchlight were going to try to go in a dog sledding contest and win $500 dollars. Willy entered by using all his college money. Will Willy and Searchlight win? Will they get $500 dollars to pay off the taxes and not lose there home? I recommend this book to everyone. It is a great book and is a nice thing to read. So go to your local library and check it out!!

This book to me was very touching and made me cry.
I have come to tell you about a book that is not only for you but for all ages. The book is no other than Stone Fox written by John R.Gardiner and illustated by Marcia Sewall.I know this is a good book because of 3 reasons personal experience, experiences from teachers and students, and newspaper ratings.

Reason one is from my personal experience. When I read this book it was interesting, and had a lot of action,I rated it excelllent. Some of the parts brought me to tears and had an hard impact on me.For some reason I just couldn't what would happen to me if I was in the same situation as Willy.I beleive that this story was so baffling because it showed something that we might not see very often.Ayoung child taking the position of a man and maybe even ding more than he can handle and that's why I chose and love this book.

Reason Two is from student and teacher experience. On the Internet at www.amazon.com I read the e-mail feed back from a teacher that said this"I read this book and loved it so much,I can't harldy wait to read it to my students!"Now to me not any book can impress a teacher to read it to her class but this one did! Also a class of students said:"We all like Stone Fox and recommend it to everyone!A teacher on amazon.com said:"It moved me to tears, and also had an huge impact.Even though not listed under my reasons parents are recognizing the greatness about this book, one parent said this:"It's worth reading,it beacme my son's favorite."Now that shoul be enough to convince you that it is a great book. But I have one more paragraph to convince you.

Reason three is the newspaper ratings. Now you be saying:"Yeh.All that experience stuff is good but where is the editorial side of it.Well I just want you to know this is what the Chicago-Sun-Times said:"This story deserves four stars."Another newspaper The New Yorker said:'A superb piece of storytelling-withut doubt the most exciting and moving book this season.I hope you that because two of the nation's most popular newspapers said that.

In conclusion I want you to know that this book can make you laugh and cry at the same time. Also it shows you about a wonderful moral. That is responsibility, and how a young child can do the things that are expected from a man. That is why I love this book and believe it is wonderful.

A GREAT book called Stone Fox
This book Stone Fox is by John Reynolds Gardiner. It takes place in Indiana. My favorite character is Searchlight. I like Searchlight because Searchlight is a dog who is brave and has a good heart. Searchlight loves Willy so she wants to helps him save the farm. Willy's grandpa is sick and Willy needs money to survive and pay the bank because his grandpa didn't pay so the bank was going to take the farm away. Willy decides to go in a race to earn a lot of money if he wins. Find out what happens to Willy and Searchlight. I recommend this book to you if you like races and unexpected endings. Hope you enjoy this book!

The Pistoleer: A Novel of John Wesley Hardin

Intelligent, but too cold for me
This book is written in installments: first-person narratives by people who know the main character. Most of them are only a few pages long, and few of the narrators repeat. Thus, it's impossible to really sympathize with any of them. The main character himself, gunslinger John Wesley Hardin, is hard to like: we never get into his head, and from the outside he looks like just another gangster. The reader sympathizes briefly when he's wounded and imprisoned, only to be put off when he commits his next act of mindless violence or drunken stupidity. The post-Civil War American West, as presented by the author, whacks the reader over the head with violence, lawlessness, and what I felt were rather gratuitous scenes of sex with prostitutes. I'm all for "gritty" historical fiction, but here it sometimes seemed like the author was just trying to show off. Without emotional content, grit is just an irritant. Having said all that, the book is intelligently written and apparently well researched, and it might be somebody else's cup of tea more than it is mine.

What Makes the American West Like Nothing Else
There was nothing like the American West in the history of the world and figures like Hardin exemplify it; deadly, brave, sad and foolish all at once. His death seemed a relief because by 1895 there was no place left for the bravado of a gunslinger who would draw over an insult.

I found the writing format, the telling through other's eyes, less engaging and certainly less tasty than Blake's current style.

Tin Horn Mike
This was some book ! Absolutely outstanding in every respect - as a story, in its style, very exciting, excellent dialect, really funny in spots, ..... Chapter by chapter I went from hating the arrogant ... (John Wesley Hardin), to wanting to be a Hardin. If he really was as portrayed in this book (which I doubt), he was mostly the kind of person I respect - leave him alone and he'll buy you drinks all night long and otherwise give you the shirt off his back. Meddle in his business, get in his face, or harm his family and he'll whip you or kill you. Now don't get me wrong. Any reader would try to see where they fit in, in that day and time and I am pretty much left with the sad conclusion that I would have probably been a sorry, boot-licking peddler of some kind . . . . not a Hardin.

Not the best workbook, by far
This workbook is only helpful in trying to gain a better understanding of the story at the beginning of the chapters. To have more practice in writing and understanding the language, which is the purpose of a workbook, I would recommend "Advanced Spanish Grammar," ISBN: 0471134481.

A wonderful book to follow grammar classes
This excellent textbook brought Spanish "home" for me -- it seemed to link together all the Spanish I'd learned in the past. I highly recommend it!

The best language book I've ever read
I used this text in Mexico for the highest levels taught at the Centro Mexicano Internacional in Morelia, Michoacán. I speak French (five years) and a little German, have taken high school Latin and college-level Greek. I have had LOTS of delightful experiences with languages, including trying to speak Japanese in Japan!

This book is, in my opinion, the best, most comprehensive and best-organized language text I've ever used.

It's not for dabblers, however. To this serious student, it was like a long, long drink of cool water to a thirsty man: constantly delicious and satisfying. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Según mi maestra favorita, ¡una Mexicana! fue el mejor también, nuestro "libro favorito."
