Somewhat helpful, needs more information...
This book is somewhat helpful, however some close-ups of the dolls faces would have aided me in identifying... For the price a good basic overview of what Barbie dolls were available from 1976-1986.

Extremely nice-looking and well-informed
The only book I have ever found about folk dolls only. The pictures are great, the information about dresses is complete. My only wish is to find the same kind of book about more "modern" dolls. This book mostly deals with dolls from museums and does not give many tips about where to find good folk dolls today. Looking forward to reading Volume2!

Nice book, but...
This is a nice book, but not broad enough, very limited on pieces displayed/reviewed. Also, the known makers marks for the companies included within the book are few and far between. Not every company represented in the book marks are shown, they should be. It makes a difference when trying to figure dates of manufacture etc.
A nice effort, well organized...
This is a useful book. Many people tend to reach for the Kovels guides as a first resort, and I must admit I do so sometimes myself. But some of the more general guides they do are not as well organized as they could be. This book is organized well, contains a relatively thorough listing of the more common types of pottery and porcelain (although many of the more obscure types are not listed at all). The pricing part, alas, has the same problem that so many other reference books on collectibles deal with today, that being the effect that online auctions have had on pricing. So it may not reflect prices you'd see on Ebay or Amazon's auctions. But the prices give one a baseline from which to work, and seem accurate with regards to most markets. And the book is a convenient size to slip into your bag when you go to an antique store or live auction.

Using Access '97 doesn't touch on all of the capability...
This book goes rather in depth of using all the wizards which come with Access 97, which is great if you've never ever created your own database before. However, absolutely no theory or explaination is given as to when or why you would (or wouldn't) want to do this or that in any of the examples. I do have a computer science degree, and a database class was required in our curiculum. So, i know a lot of the theory of relational databases, normalization and entity relationships. Unfortunatley, this text very breifly mentioned those concepts. They are *extremely* improtant when designing the underlying data structure. Also, the text did give a lot of VBA examples, unfortunately the examples were given under the assumption that you know VBA. Only if you're brand-spanking new to access development would this book be of any use. I can't recomend it though to any person who is a development professional. I just purchased Access 97 Bible 97, Gold edition. I've heard many good things about it. That text only lightly covers VBA usuage, which is a good thing, since VBA is an interpreted scripting tool, which means it's VERY VERY slow. HINT: dont EVER use VBA, for anything. The same goes for Java. Stay away from anything interpreted.
It is a great reference for beginning Access Programming!
This book is great and it was simple to follow and the pictures in the book make it a good buy adding value to the customer. Also, Good descriptions in the Macros section make it easier to find what Action you need. VBA couldn't be explained any easier. May need to watch for a few flaws in the graphs unfortunately but that shouldn't be the only reason for buying this book.
If you've taken the intro course and want to know more,
this is a great resource to help you add some of the bells and whistles you want to have in your application to make it easier to navigate your database. Pictures of the screens you will need to manipulate make the processes easy to understand and follow. There is also a great introduction to Visual Basic for those who just aren't sure about taking that next step.

Ripoff
Don't make the same mistake I did.... which was caused by ME not completely reading the details of the so-called book I thought I was buying.
I thought I was buying a complete book AND a supplement... whereas this is just a 32 page supplement and absolutely NOT worth the money. Buy, instead the unauthorized Pyrex book.
I was ripped off. But a lot of it was due to my own negligence. Stay away from this worthless piece of ....
Great Reference Supplement!
Although not one of the "hot" collectibles (at least yet), Pyrex has a fascinating history that a book like this helps to preserve. I acquired the supplement before the original book, and still it was a useful tool. I have been able to find items in this supplement that are not listed anywhere else, and it has enhanced my appreciation for Pyrex in general.

Pass on this one -- there are a lot of other better books!
The pages of this book are so badly designed that I couldn't force my eyes to read it. How can the authors' advice on graphics, layout and design be credible when their book design is so obviously lacking?
