A Giant 704 page 1 1/2 inch Thick Toy Reference
10th edition, year 2001 very comprehensive collectible toys guide featuring more than 51,000 values for its 17,000 listings. There are more than 3,700 black and white pictures and a 16-page color section. A complete table of contents makes item location easy. Its items range from Action Jackson, Buck Rogers, Charlie's Angels and Evel Knievel, to Addams Family, Howdy Doody, Munsters and Pez and Matchbox, Renwal, Tootisetoy and wooden toys. Each major topic covers a nice introduction to the area. Very useful reference for toy collectors and enthusiasts.

The Toy Collector's Bible
O'Brien's Collecting Toys covers an awful lot of ground and does it well. Whether you are a collector or a dealer you MUST have this book to be on the same page everyone else is when evaluating the values of most antique and vintage toys. While the book does cover many of the popular toys and manufacturers, it does have many ommissions, at least in the area of tin windups. In the future I'd like to see more toys added, and other manufacturers included..most notably Guntherman, Marklin, Martin, Arnold. A more intuitive listing of the toys would also help as it can sometimes be difficult to find the toy you're looking for.

Over 50,000 items categorized for quick reference
Elizabeth Stephan's O'Brien's Collecting Toys, 10th Edition is a weighty price guide which could well be used as a price 'bible' for toy collectibles. Anticipate only a handful of color photos mid-book: the meat of the title lies in its black and white photos throughout and more particularly its over 50,000 items categorized for quick reference and provided with the latest values.

The School for Scandal

Good satire of gabby society
Sheridan's phrase "school for scandal" is a grand metaphor for the gossipy London society of the late 1770's, and the longevity of the play that bears it as its title attests to its relevance in any place and time. Sheridan captures the inherent drama and humor in the truism that people are always talking about other people behind their backs and uses it as a foundation on which to devise a plot of intrigue.

The school's "principals" are Lady Sneerwell and a man named Snake, who like to collect gossip about their neighbors and others in London society; one of their cohorts is the brilliantly ironic character Mrs. Candour, who openly reprehends idle gossip but blithely participates in it anyway. One of their favorite subjects of gossip is the Surface brothers, Joseph and Charles. The popular perception is that Joseph is responsible and respectable, while Charles is a wastrel and a miscreant.

The Surface brothers' uncle, Sir Oliver Surface, returns to London after spending many years in India, hears the rumors about his nephews, and decides to verify them for the purpose of choosing an heir between the two. Since he has been gone so long that his nephews would not recognize him, he visits them incognito. Posing as a moneylender to Charles, and as a poor relative to Joseph, he discovers that his nephews are not quite of the natures he has been led to believe.

Sheridan employs some typical comedic devices like love triangles and hiding characters, but for the most part this is an inventive play that picks its targets well and hits the bullseye every time. Considering it was written at such a turbulent time in England's history, it's interesting that social satire still managed to break through greater national concerns and be successful and appreciated.

Delightfully Scandalous
This book made it fun and delightful to follow how rumors and scandals are started. Anyone who wants a ligth hearted read in the style of a Shakespearean comedy, "School for Scandal" by Richard Sheridan is for you. It has the most entertaining characters, who anyone could recognize as being people they know and are friends with, and it pokes fun at soap-opera-like dramas that have forbidden loves and misleading coincidences. The situations that arise seem so unthinkable and impossible, and then you realize that you or someone you know has been there right down to the last detail. "School for Scandal" is a entertaining read for anyone who has ever passed on a rumor.

Comedy of Manners
The aptly named Sir Oliver Surface would like to know which of his nephews is the more worthy, and, well, nothing is ever simple. This comedy of manners is one of the best ever written, and it rings true 225 years after its first performance thanks to its snide comments on English aristocrats and one-liners such as "I'm called away by particular business. But I leave my character behind me."

The Dover Thrift edition has no introduction or analysis. Intoduction and analysis are of course not necessary, but in some situations they are nice things to have.

Each piece is too short to provide any satisfying insight
Straight from over thirty of today's most innovative CEOs come the ideas that are reshaping and reinvigorating the modern corporation-written exclusively for this book. Straight from the CEO is a major work, because the world rarely hears directly from the great contemporary business leaders-the chief movers and shakers of major corporations. Working closely with the Price Waterhouse management team, a wide variety of chief executives who are successfully managing today's rapid pace of economic change present their ideas about leading and motivating people, unleashing innovation and creativity, and learning from customers to revitalize their businesses. Among the CEOs represented in the book are the heads of British Airways, Compaq Computer, Monsanto, Royal Dutch/Shell, Enron, Chase Manhattan Bank, and Warner-Lambert. The scope is worldwide: from Bangkok to Jakarta, from Dusseldorf to Dallas. No ivory tower theorizing, no speeches, no "consultant speak," these are the practical insights of leaders who every day must find ways to test and validate new ideas, implement change to improve the bottom line, and ultimately focus on the core ideas that will truly reshape their corporation.

Straight from the CEO is an important tool for managers at every level, focusing on such issues as creating loyalty to customers, organizing globally, fostering individual employee motivation, and leveraging corporate values to enhance performance. These are the pressing issues that face every manager who strives to sort out valuable contributions from impractical ideas, the gold from the dross, and then take action that gets results. As intellectually stimulating as it is practical, Straight from the CEO is an invaluable report from the executive trenches.

By necessity brief, the many pieces (I hesitate to call them chapters or even articles) lack depth, assume much and as a result are quite unstatisfying; but they do leave the reader hungry for more!

William Dauphinais is Vice Chairman, Human Capital for PricewaterhouseCoopers. He co-authored with Colin Price two previous books, The Paradox Principles and Better Change. He has 25 years of business experience covering a broad range of organizational change, business reengineering, financial planning, and information technology issues. Straight from the CEO
Very persuasive book, with new and bright ideas for the future. It has motivated me to become a more people oriented person. I will take closer looks and my employees needs and wants, taking care of the customer has become one of my greatest concerns. Thank you for the edge on life. Omar Cumberbatch, CEO Royal Family Pro.

BRAINPOWER
Based on a collection of essays by global corporate leaders, the book is structured around 6 themes: globalisation, radical change, leadership, culture, innovation, and customer relationship. Percy Barnevik of ABB, explains how to balance global resources and local autonomy, Richard Evans of British Aerospace shows why radical changes required CEOs to get out of their ivory towers. The book is well illustred and easy to read. It doesn't contain academic theory or consultancy methods. It is a step by step guide explained by experienced CEO who can help solve your company's problems. Franck Renand, Prof. of Strategic Management, ISLA, Oporto, Portugal.

Excellent book
World War II historical fiction brought to life with powerful images, well developed characters, and thought-provoking situations. Real people facing extreme circumstances with the full varity of human triumphs and failures. Well worth the read.

EXCELLENT BOOK, BUT THE EDITING IS HORRIBLE
THIS BOOK TIED HISTORY AND FICTION TOGETHER VERY WELL. THERE WERE SECTIONS WHICH WOULD SEEM IMPROBABLE, BUT GIVEN THE FICTIONAL NATURE OF THE BOOK, WORKED WELL. HOWEVER, THE EDITING WAS VERY POOR. MISSPELLED WORDS, LACK OF OR NO PUNCTUATION, AND POORLY CONSTRUCTED SENTENCES MADE IT DIFFICULT TO READ. ONE HAS TO BACK UP AND REREAD MANY SECTIONS TO DISCERN THE MEANING OF THE AUTHORS

Trading Without Fear : Eliminating Emotional Decisions with Arms Trading Strategies

A good book of technical analysis & not trading psychology
The book title is quite misleading. However, this had not reduced the value or quality of this technical analysis tool book.

The author, with simple words, fluently explains about several Volume related technical tools such as Arms Index, Box Ratio and Volume Adjusted Moving Averages VAMA. Market tactics, like how, when and what to sell short and to cover shorts when you are right and when you are wrong, are elaborated with sound writing skill and clear examples.

In short, worth a read.

A Good Book, But Not A Great Book
The market is not driven by logic, i.e. good earnings, good products, etc. but by emotions, such as greed and fear, particularly at the turning points. It is the emotional response to the news, rather than the news itself, which determines the effect. Emotions can be better displayed graphically by volume analysis, especially by using the volume indicators developed by Richard Arms. The market operates as a function of volume, not a function of time.

I personally have had excellent results with Arm's "Volume Adjusted Moving Averages",which gives a far superior early warning signal than other MA's. It was therefore disappointing to find that the book only hints at the techniques to be applied. ( an outstanding book in this regard, is Stan Weinsteins "Profiting in Bull And Bear Markets). Arm's techniques are revolutionary, make a lot of sense, and give a different perspective. The book is worth a read for that alone.

Great Starting Point ....
Richard Price does an wonderful job touching on the theology of Bishop Augustine, as well as giving a simplistic introduction to the Saint.

Augustine of Hippo wrote some of the most influential Christian doctrine, but it was, and is, very difficult reading for the layperson.

This book puts forth Augustine's difficult topics like Original Sin, Relations within the Church, and the Trinity in an easily read format. The book is dry at times, but is still a most enlightning read.

If you are looking for a beginner book on Saint Augustine of Hippo, or if you are looking for a brief review of this Holy Doctor of the Church, than this is a very good resource.

5 Stars if this chapters of this book wasnt removed.
Jesse Livermore's book, in my opinion, is the single all time best book ever written on trading stocks.

I have read many books on trading, 7 out of 10 ordinary books are written by people who are good at writing textbooks. They are good at talking theory, but when it comes to combat in the trading battlefield, they come short and leaves you unsatisfied.

Jesse walks you through important trading principles which he learned through mistakes himself. He walks you through the emotions, the struggles, the mistakes, together with the success. This is no textbook, but you will learn important principles from a man who has been through the trenches himself.

THis book is not for ordinary investors, but for traders with a bit of experience. For those who are full time traders, this book is a must read. It leaves the ordinary trading textbooks in the dust.

The only draw back is Richard Smitten bought the copyright to the original book (from what I know), and he removed 3 chapters at the end of the original book, and he replaced it with his own materials. I went through great troubles to get hold of the orignal book with the final 3 chapters intact(the juicy stuff).

Overall, a must read for traders. If you can find the original edition, buy it and forget the new edition by Smitten.

This is the best book I have ever read on trading, period!
This is the best book I have ever read on trading, period! And i have read at least 20 of them. Even though this book was written more than 50 years ago (written in 1940!), it is still quite relevant today. (Which goes to show that nothing new ever happens in the stock market) It never ceases to amaze me how much wisdom Jesse Livermore has packed into almost every page of this book. I like to re-read this book every 6 months or so; to remind myself of the simple but un-intuitive rules of trading. Buy this book, read it several times and see the difference in your trading results. No kidding.

methods of the old master
As many people know, Jesse Livermore was the most successful trader early this century. Unfortunately, even the master couldn't hold on to his success. "JL" reportedly made $10 million during the beginning of the 1929 crash, only to lose EVERYTHING in the early 1930s. How did he lose his fortune? Unfortunately, his book does not say. Nevertheless, Jesse does reveal his system that served him well for many years. And even if it went kaput in the early 1930s, I think one can profit from his experiences. The book shows that Jesse often used "pivot points" to time his trades. Basically, "JL" was a mental technician. What has worked in the past may not work in the future. As George Soros had said, "The rules change." That phrase is especially important as we come ever closer to the end of the greatest bull market of this century, the type which wiped out JL himself. So, don't blindly follow JL's methods. Despite JL's subsequent failure, he did write a good book. I recommend it.

A Good Work by a Great Author....
The Price is a well thought out story of human growth. It is a story of family relationships, particularly one that has collapsed over the years. When forced to come together once and for all, the brothers reunite and are able to find some common ground if any over the price of their own old furniture which is to be sold to a dealer. Far more prominent in this novel is the lesson that relationships need love and attention to flourish, and one cannot put a price on them. This book is fabulously written by the famous author, Arthur Miller who has also written such reknown plays as Death of a Salesman and The Crucible. If you didn't pass up a chance to read those classics, you won't want to pass up a chance to read this one.

I don't mind repeat performances
When talking about this play, arthur miller said "I don't write plays to conform to critical essays. I write about what interests me. That is my strength and that is my limitation." Yes, it had a very similar plot to DEATH OF A SALESMAN, but the character's, specifically the main character, were very different, which changed the theme of the play. I loved it. It made me think...got me more involved then death of a salesman did. It took serveral readings to get the full jist of it. Victor's sacrifice was for love: it didn't matter if there had been no love in his family--he brought love to it.

5 stars for theme...but 30s diction.
Miller's play surrounds the moral development of two brothers: one a dutiful policeman (Victor), the other a successful yet selfish surgeon (Walter). Their most recent encounter takes place during the sale of family furniture and heirlooms -- post a long and silent gap in their relationship catalyzed by an angry family breakup that completely separated the brothers.

During their encounter, Arthur Miller poignantly brings out each brother's personal ethics, and what moral debts each feels the other owes. The 'furniture' and it's price to be sold, which is their central concern (in addition to dealings with the only other two characters in the play - an appraiser (Solomon) and Victor's wife (Esther)) , is merely a bargaining object between the two - a prop - with which each may discover more fully the other's thoughts and ways of being, and somehow, at the end of the day, find some sort of salvation in each other.

Miller's play does have room for updating the "Say! What a swell..." type of older american-english diction for flow. This may be especially encouraging to those who may find some of the colloquialisms inappropriate.

The reader must keep in mind that this is not a novel, and really should not be read like one, word for word. This is more a basic screenplay type, where improvisation by actors who truly understand the characters - and Miller's intent - will ultimately bring the true and dramatic color to a wonderful and thought-provoking story.
