A VERY COMPREHENSIVE COVERAGE OF STOCK MARKET SYSTEMS
This book presents a very concise view of almost every known stock prediction system. It is written in simple easy to understand format that could be useful for the beginner as well as the experienced investor/ trader.

Many of the technical indicators used here are the same ones used in the analysis of the futures markets, so even a futures trader could find the book helpful, especially with the heavy interest in stock index futures. Here the stock market is analyzed from both a technical and fundamental perspective thus giving readers the benefit of both views.

Enigma Variations

An unexpected pleasure
Richard and Sally Price are practicing anthropologists who have written a novel about some of the non-academic aspects of their work. Based on their real experiences, this book describes a detective hunt to establish the authenticity of some South American tribal and slave artifacts. But a simple yes/no question quickly blurs into shades of grey as they worm their way through collectors who 'restore' pieces, native carvers who mix styles to please buyers and museum officials trying to justify monies spent.

The book provides a fascinating philosophical discussion of authenticity and the differences between the way the art world and the academic world define it. Every page includes a photograph of an artifact discussed in the story, only at the end do we get a glimpse of which were genuine and which were not.

I expected a quick read and got a picture of a world I've never seen before. A boundary stretching book that holds your attention with personal narrative. I'll never look at a native mask or bowl the same way again.

A Fantastic Journey Back to the Future
This book was such a surprise! I love Sinclair Lewis but I never expected such a great young reader's book from him. It's a terrific view of what he thought the future might be: lots of hope in technology and the ultimate triumph of good over evil. I don't know what the original book looked like, but this one is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

A Satisfied Reader
This marvelous book contains helpful and useful information on how to stay younger looking without resorting to costly cosmetic surgery, or overly-priced creams. From tricks on keeping the lip area soft and smooth, to avoiding lines around the eyes while you sleep, to toning neck muscles and avoiding sag, Eleni Dayle writes in a clear and friendly manner. She doesn't neglect the spiritual side either, and explains how we can all grow younger through using our imagination, and why taking a "spiritual time out" can keep you looking younger than your years. The author is a former actress who appeared on stage, screen, and television. She conveys to the reader what she has learned about staying young and beautiful from her years in show business--as well as, traditional knowledge conveyed to her by her mother, Annika, in the hills of Greece. Knowledge like, "your life can make a difference". Eleni Dayle's mother would be proud of her, because through this helpful book, she is making a difference in the lives of many people. I highly recommend this book. It is well written, amusing in parts, and an easy and enjoyable read.

Amazing collection of primary source material
This is an outstanding collection of primary source documents on maroons societies(groups of escaped slaves) throughout the Americas. Reads almost like a piece of fiction. Its a book that should be read cover to cover, not just used as a reference. Valuable book for anyone interested in resistance to slavery. Includes fine introduction. The societies covered in this book range from small bands to large powerful states that survived for generations.

Advice From a Parrish Fanatic
Incredibly useful. I believe Flacks has written the most accurate and convenient pricing guide available for Maxfield Parrish collectors and anyone else who wants to figure out what a Parrish item is worth. If you're looking for a great coffee table book, I suggest Alma Gilbert's The Masterworks. -- James Halperin, sf novelist (The Truth Machine & The First Immortal) and Parrish collector.

More than just a price book
This book is more than just a price book. It uses a series of questions to help you nail down just what you are looking at. In the BASICS section you find the different types of inlays as Line inlay Marquetry, Parquetry, and Oyster-veneering. The book is small enough that I carry this with me.

Some of the highlights are:

Uses a unique question-and -answer approach to help you identify and date genuine antique glass

Deals with fakes, copies, condition and other factors that may confuse even experienced collectors

Analyses typical items that collectors can find in shops and auction houses

Gives Guidelines to values

Contains a wealth of background information, including an extensive glossary

Is a thorough introductory course for the beginner and also a superb refresher for those with some collecting experience.

Narrative of a Five Years Expedition Against the Revolted Negroes of Surinam
Published in Hardcover by Johns Hopkins Univ Pr (1988)
Authors: John Gabriel Stedman and Richard Price
Amazon base price: $95.00
Used price: $69.99

A sociological, biological, artistic and military tour
Stedman, an English officer in a mercenary force hired to end the depredations of escaped slaves, is an examplar of the 18th century naturalist, complete with botanically or zoologically accurate descriptions and paintings which grace this handsome volume. He was more unusual in his social perspectives, and maintained close friendships with people at literally every level of Surinam society. He had considerable sympathy for those at the bottom, including those he'd been hired to eliminate. This sympathy appears in some grisly images of slave punishment which his contemporary and friend, the poet and artist William Blake, engraved for the Narrative's original publication.

Stedman's graceful writing style, his obvious humanity, his wealth of scientific information, his artistic achievements, his jungle or social adventures, and his modern angst, all contribute to a lengthy and fascinating experience for the reader. Richard Price's introduction ably sets the scene.

MY FAVORITE MUSICAL!
This is my favorite R&H show! I own all of the Vocal Scores, and love this one a little bit more than the others. All music from the show is contained in this Vocal Score, from the Overture to bows and exit music. This is the music from the original broadway production, and from the version that is released from the Rodgers and Hammerstein Music Theatre Library. (...)
