This study guide is awesome!!
I just love this guide. I use it every day to start my day at work. It really gets me to meditate on God's wonderful word. It is so great, that I am buying it for a friend.
Kudos!
This book revolutionized my own Bible study time. The Quiet Time Companion uses several different approaches to freshen up personal study times. Weekly sessions may study a single passage, a character, or a word. Other sessions will look at the same passage from several different perspective or will spend two or more weeks on an indepth study of a section of scripture.
This multi-themed approach keeps your Bible study from becoming routine. You will not find a three month study of Leviticus. It cuts down on the theological/philosophic mumbo-jumbo giving straight but not dumbed down look at the Word of God.
Another innovative approach the authors used in creating this devotional aid is that the weekly sessions are composed of 5 lessons, giving you 2 days of individual study (the authors do make some suggestions) but this is an excellent opportunity to work in preparing your Sunday School lesson during the weekend personalized study.
The authors are to be commended! Bravo!

Very deep and no nonsense-a priceless book.
This is very important work. For those that have read I am That-Nisargadatta Maharaj's main work, this book is an amazing compliment to his work and I got a lot out of it. This book differs from I am That in one main way, Nisargadatta Maharaj is in his last fading years and is EXTREMELY direct and no nonsense. He respnonds to questions with cutting honesty. No handholding or sugarcoating. For instance he bluntly points out the many pitfalls of many mental concepts that separate you from the True Self. In I am That, he was a bit softer in his responses, here because his body is old and weary-not to mention he's been teaching for decades at this point, he has little tolerance for getting into "kindergarten spirituality"as he terms it.
Here, he goes for the very core of spiritual teachings. He doesn't say anything new from I am That, just poses things more directly and from a few new angles. I loved this book. It is well worth purchasing, especially if you are one who prefers non-mytical, direct teachings.
Some Quotes " Consider this beingness or consciousness as the supreme god"...."The beingness itself is the Guru"...."There is no birth, death it as all a concept, an illusion."

A great book for the serious seeker
A must have for any earnest seeker. Rarely do we have opportunities to be guided by a genuine teacher of Hindu philosophy in such a deft manner. If you are looking for instructions on meditation for the highest purpose you will find it here. A no-nonsense practical book that hits the nail on the head.

A book to read over and over ...
I looked this book up just to see if it was still available anywhere. I believe I bought it when it was published in 1981, and have probably read it at least once a year since then. Scary without being terrifying, hopeful without being simple - it's an excellent book! One of my all time favorites. I can't wait to read it to my children when they get a little older.
In praise of good children's fiction
This book although essentially for children is a wonderfully fast moving and magical chase across a landscape dotted with mystical creatures and races from past times, forgotten now in the minds of more sophisticated men.
The story is based on the legend of Alderley that an ancient king and his knights sleep under the hill there awaiting the call that will come if ever the powers of darkness should threaten to overtake the land.
The Wierstone of Brisingamen is an ancient, magic stone of such power that it keeps king, knights and their milk white steeds in a state of suspended animation, protected forever against the powers of evil who would destroy them and prevent their riding forth one day to do battle....
The stone has been lost and through a series of events it transpires that it belongs to a young girl called Susan who is now back at Alderly with the Wierdstone fastened to her slender wrist.
This fact is not lost on the local witch, Selina Place, the Morrigan, a shape shifter out for power and who recognises the stone when she sees it one day.
This draws the children into a series of terrifying circumstances as good and bad struggle to be the guardians of the powerful talisman.
This tale is well paced and well written.
It is full of good and bad characters whose struggle spills over into the world of mortal men and sweeps up the 2 children at the center of the story carrying them along on a tide of events which take them in and out of danger helped by their friend Gowther Mossock.....a somewhat grizzled old farmer who is still innocent enough of the worlds more cynical ways to be able to believe in the old ways, the magic ways.....
Cadellin Silverbrow, the magician who had charge of the Wierdstone of Brisingamen and to his shame lost it, strides majestically through the story to a thrilling conclusion and a battle between the forces of good and evil
It is a book which I read to my children many times and still enjoy myself today, it almost makes you believe that if you looked hard enough and in the right places that you would see the traces of those inhabitants of a world once familiar to Mankind, now sadly lost to all except those with the childlike ability to suspend disbelief.
I thouroughly recommend this book

Tells the true purpose of scouting as it was intended.
As you read this book you will see how little boys have changed over the history of scouting. This book goes into great details into how Baden-Powell trained his scouts. It provides activities and stories that will help you in your role as a scoutleader today. The book was written to aid in the training in the early days of WoodBadge. I recomend this book highly to anyone who believes in the purpose of scouting is to make better citizens and leaders of society. As a scoutmaster I have found this an invaluable source of ideas and inspiration.

A good all-rounder.
In The Chrysalids John Wyndham takes the reader into the anguished heart of a community where the chances of breeding true are less than 50 per cent and where deviations are rooted out nad destroyed as offences and abominations. The narrator of The Chrysalids is David, who can communicate with a small group of other young people by means of 'thought shapes'. This deviation from a cruelly rigid norm goes unnoticed at first. But sooner or later the secret is bound to be discovered, and the results are violent, horrific... and believable.

The Cardinal's Call
Judith Roberts has earned, through experience, the strength of these heartfelt poems. The power of her words comes from the direct and honest details that take courage to reveal. From her struggles as a child watching her parents clink shot glasses throughout her alienated childhood to a mother placing poinsettia wreaths on her son's grave, to finding the hope in a cardinal's song, Roberts shows us a woman who has known the edge and survived. This book is her liberation.
