Great
I thought that this book was worth buying, I got a lot out of it. This book is about having a better relationship with God by learning to hear his voice, finding and following His will. It's a good book for new Christians and mature ones. They also ask the question if God talks to people today and if God has a will for every Christian's life, they present both arguments and give you their take, which I agree and that is that yes God has a will for your life. It talks about how to tell if something is from God or the devil. It also covers how God used to talk to people in the past as well as the present. I found the book easy to read, informative and helpful. I really think that the authors covered a lot of stuff and that they did their research.

One of the ten books every speculator should read.
Financial assets grow in value with the passage of time. For debt, we call this "interest", and for equity, we call it "yield". Homer's book is the superbly recorded history of this phenomenon. Perhaps its greatest value is that when you hear or read a new theory, you can assess its validity by comparing the theory's implications with the historical evidence.

The History of Skepticism from Erasmus to Spinoza

Superb! A Crucial Work on the History of Western Thought
This little book tells the story of the most important turning point in the history of Western thinking. That it is full of surprises, shows how widely misunderstood is the subject it treats. One of the most important things it demonstrates, without necessarily meaning to, is how radical skepticism has historically been an ally, rather than an enemy, of religion, and an enemy, rather than an ally, of science.

Popkin is the undisputed master of this subject, and this book is filled with summaries and precious exerpts of works no longer accessible to most of us, and is worth buying for that reason alone.

The Labyrinth of the Comic: Theory and Practice from Fielding to Freud
Published in Hardcover by University Press of Florida (1986)
Author: Richard Keller Simon
Amazon base price: $44.95
Used price: $9.50
Collectible price: $18.52
Average review score:

A finely written academic study of comedy in four fields.
The Labyrinth of the Comic is a finely written academic study of the meanings of comedy and the comic in literature, philosophy, psychology, and psychoanalysis, from the middle eighteenth century to the early twentieth. It is published by a university press and aimed primarily at academic audiences: for students and teachers at the college level. If you are interested in how comedy has been understood and interpreted between Henry Fielding's Joseph Andrews and Tom Jones in the mid eighteenth century, and Sigmund Freud's Jokes and their Relation to the Unconscious in the early 20th century, you should find the book interesting and helpful. The book also considers William Makepeace Thackeray, Soren Kierkegaard, the rise of experimental psychology, and George Meredith.

The Nixon-Kissinger Years: Reshaping of America's Foreign Policy
Published in Hardcover by Washington Inst Pr (1989)
Authors: Richard C. Thornton, Richard C. Thortnton, and Richard C. Thorton
Amazon base price: $24.95
Used price: $17.95
Average review score:

A productive and quite innovative way to look at the 70's.
Thornton looks at foreign policy in a way that not many other scholars do. He realizes that, for example, there was more to the Watergate Scandal than the American people were led to believe at the time, and even to this very day. By reading this work, you can become one of the few who understand the whole story behind the 'silent coup' that occurred in the early 70's. After reading Thornton's account of the Nixon-Kissinger years, you will never look at foreign policy the same way again.

Will change how you think about world affairs.
Professor Thornton leads us through the labyrinth of foreign policy decision making during the Nixon Administration and the subsequent Kissinger "Shogunate." The reader must be prepared to think *strategically*, i.e. to consider apparently isolated events in a larger, global context. In other words, Thornton challenges us to think about world affairs just like the actual players did (and do).

Caveat: this is not a right-wing conspiracy-type book. It is a serious text on recent American and world history. People looking for a sensational ride through the subterranean passages of governmental power would probably be better off elsewhere.

Thornton does suggest explanatory models that are quasi-revolutionary, e.g. that Nixon's fall was the result of a commonplace political entrapment scheme by Kissinger, which led directly to (among other events) the fall of South Vietnam. Does that morsel sound tempting to you? The book is full of them. (I especially love Dr. Thornton's description of Watergate burglar G. Gordon Liddy - look up Liddy's name in the index to find the passage.)

Dr. Thornton is a Professor at George Washington University's School of International Affairs. He is an expert on China and its history (and he speaks several Chinese dialects). He is the "real McCoy" with a pedigree that includes a career in U.S. Air Force intelligence.

Norbert Fabian Capek: A Spiritual Journey
Published in Paperback by Skinner House Books (1999)
Author: Richard Henry
Amazon base price: $20.00
Used price: $16.75

Remembering Norbert Capek
It is important to remember the stories of humanity seeking freedom. In a sense, we expand our own memories. In the remembering we can live with greater awareness and integrity. We can feel the pull toward justice in our own lives.

Richard Henry shares the inspiring life of Capek as one who lived his life authentically, in relationship and in response. Capek was a visionary and a transformer, bringing hope to the people. Through Henry's remarkable research, we are able to gain a window into life of this beloved man. We understand how timeless themes of love, freedom, courage, and faith are not only ideals but are embodied in us by the choices we make and the way we live. We bear witness to Czechoslovakian struggle for freedom. We bear witness to the courage of the human spirit and a man who devoted his life to the spiritual rebirth of a nation. Thanks, Richard Henry, for the memory.

O. Henry: The Legendary Life of William S. Porter.
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (1970)

So interesting you'll forget it's nonfiction!
At the conclusion of his book "A Twist at the End," Steven Saylor highly recommends this biography of O. Henry. I do, too.

This book sheds so much light on both William Sydney Porter (O. Henry) and American life in the late 19th century and early 20th century. O'Connor meticulously documents his sources in a way that never interferes with his story. About three-fourths of the way through the book, I suddenly realized that this non-fiction work is far more interesting than the novel ("A Twist at the End") that Saylor wrote about one part of O. Henry's life.

This book was an exellent portrayal of Wright's work
When faced with a difficult term paper I turned to this book. It provided me with invaluable information to include in my paper. Wright's work, in my opinion, is some of the most senstional writing in modern times and needs to be represented well. This book vividly describes his progression into authorhood and his works from there on in. I would recommend this book to anyone in search of the ultimate research resource.
