Great book
This was a wonderfull book. I was very Sceptical at first but I think it just might save our marrige

Quick Read, Good Information
While I don't know if this will save my relationship or not. Unfortunately, I may have waited too long to try. That said, I believe it WILL help me in the future (whether it's in my current relationship or a future one). It also helped me to better understand where the problems REALLY started. I like the analogy to pillars but I think chemistry is more a platform on top of the pillars because if any of the others start to crumble, chemistry quickly follows. (but that's just one humble opinion) I like the way the book is organized because it made for a quick easy read and while I didn't formally do the exercises at the end of each chapter, I read through them and think about them.

The Best Guide Ever to Bring Back Love and Loving
Dr. Goulston's book made so much sense to my husband, felt so right to me, and was extremely doable for both of us. It helped us recognize when and where the great things disappeared from our life and more importantly gave us a way to bring them back. Skeptical as were, this book really can help you to fall back in love again and stay there.

Biology Book Review
From an anorexic snake to a myopic kangaroo to a bloated akita, from the tricky diagnoses to the hopeless cases, this captivating paperback tells of the perilous situations that have occurred at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine. Is it really right to spend all this time and effort on animals when some people lack food, shelter, and proper medical care? The veterinarians who unveil their heart-warming and emotional stories in this 194-page book, Animal ER, by Vicki Croke (copyright-1999) show us that the world is meant to be shared by animals and humans.
Each chapter of this brilliant book displays and describes a different animal/pet and its unique problem. Biology plays a major part in this book because it's about the science of studying and curing living things. It exposes the drama of life in the emergency ward of a veterinary hospital, which is a biology-related occupation. The first chapter summarizes the atmosphere of the Intensive Care Unit at Tufts; it's sad and yet successful too. The next eleven chapters of Animal ER present various animals and their life-threatening problems. Some require complex surgical procedures, while others are solved by unexpected and simple means. The last chapter returns to the Intensive Care Unit and reveals what the animals teach the veterinarians. The main idea expressed at the closing of the book touched my soul as tears rose to the surface like a newly found spring. Vicki Croke wrote that the animals who are cared for seem to teach simple lessons about life. "Animals continue to surprise me with their patience, their level of tolerance, and their strength," Nishi says, "but most of all, with their ability to forgive" (194).
I would strongly recommend this brilliant book to my friends or those people who are thinking of going into the veterinary field of study. Since I've never had a pet, I cannot relate to the owners of these sick animals; however, I can see this book as a slice of a veterinarian's life. It captures the essence of the Intensive Care Unit during first examinations, x-rays, surgery, and post-operative care. It is clear to see, as they treat animals, that Nishi Dhupa, Dr. Mark Pokras, Dr. John Berg, and other staff members at Tufts have the "healing touch". So even though some people don't have their primary needs met like food, shelter, and clothing, animals have a right to our care and concern.

Sad and Touching Stories
Animal ER is a marvelous book for anyone who has an interest in animals or the world of Vets. Most of this book showed how these vets work everyday, but it also touches on the emotional side of the proffession. Vets have to decide when to put an animal to sleep and when to give them extra treatment . They also have a responsibility to comfort the owners. Find out more about the world of the vet by reading this fantastic nonfiction.

A wonderfully compassionate Author and Compelling stories
When my sister lost her beloved Great Dane, I mourned for her too. I'm a cat person, and this big black incredibly sweet baby was the first dog I ever loved. When I visited my sister last year and she showed me this book, explaining that the author had been there in the Tufts Vet ER with her when Azaria was brought in, I was amazed. I continued to be amazed as I saw my sister's very special love for my doggy-niece through the eyes of a total stranger. It would have been very easy to dismiss how painful losing a pet can be, very easy to miss the ties of love between a pet and her owner. My sister loved her dog, quirks and fears and vet bills and all. I loved her too. Thanks, Vicki. Your gentle presentation of their story is the finest tribute Zari could have had.

An Excellent Source Of Information
If I could rate this title with 10 stars I would. This book is amazing. I've never felt the need to write a review before but I believe that this title is deserving of my first.

The explanation of the tree of life alone, is reason enough to purchase this title. I own many different Kaballahs and I understand the material within them, but some of the concepts always seemed rather vauge until I read this book. This book has explained the material to me in a way that I didn't think was possible. It was as if the author took the time to hold the readers hand. Everything is explained in a clear and consise manner. This title is definatly worth a look.

The Best
Rav Berg is the best teacher of spiritual concepts in a day to day language, and this book is the best simple explanation of passages of the Zohar yet. If one wants to really know what Kabbalah is about, this is a MUST.

The most impactful book on kabbalah
This is the most clear and consise book that I have ever read on the Zohar. It is now very clear to me how and why to use the Zohar to better my life. I loved reading this book. I feel that it has changed my life in such a profound way. Something that I have been looking for for such a long time is now accessible. The invaluable wisdom of this book has already helped me to remove a lot of the chaos I have been experiencing until now. I highly reccomend this book to anyone who has any questions about life.

Wonderful book!!
Lots of sweet stories that relate to Ecclesiastes, many of which were humorous, some serious. This book was so heartwarming, I would recommend this book to anybody.

For Everything A Season
This book is a wonderful escape from the hectic lives we all live today. We all know someone who is like some the people Gully speaks of in this book. Having grown up in a small town I can relate to a lot of the things found in this book. It's a vacation for the mind.

A Time to Read, A Time to Weep and A Time to Laugh
This is a book to buy - in multiple copies. Mr. Gulley take Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, and with his easy going charm, small town simplicity and devotion to God, gives us all a spiritual hug. From discussion on prejudices (a time to refrain from embracing) to three things you shouldn't live without (a time to keep silence), there is much that is rich and deep to learn and to celebrate. And officially why Summer is the Very Best Season. If you think this book is not for you, because after all, you are not a Quaker - you are sadly mistaken. Mr. Gulley's simple writings and pleasing commentaries will enrich and delight everyone. I will send my copy on to Auntique Bea (who says of Home to Harmony: "picked up Harmony and in a few pages I discovered anew the charm of the book. I keep it out on the coffee table to I can skim through it at any time.") I will try to keep a stock to have on hand when a friend needs cheering. I can unequivocally say that it is just as charming as Home to Harmony, perhaps even more so.

Beautiful photographs of timeless architecture
"The Louisiana Houses of A. Hays Town" combines text by Cyril E. Vetter with photographs by Philip Gould. Together, they celebrate the classic houses designed by Town. The book is full of superb photos of both interiors and exteriors. The book ends with a short essay by Andres Duany, in which he declares, "The long, long career of A. Hays Town is like a bridge that brings forth the traditional architecture of Louisiana to the present generation of builders."

Many picturesque elements recur throughout the book: classical statuary, brick floors, exteriors with a look of natural weathering, 2-level exterior galleries, etc. Some particularly memorable images include the following: Hamilton House's interior courtyard overlooked by a second floor balcony; Westerman House's charming lily pond, made from an old sugar kettle; the rustic wood posts on the porch of the Bonnecaze House; the elegant white pillars of the Godchaux House; and more.

My only disappointment is that floor plans for the homes are not included; they would have, in my opinion, given readers a better sense of these houses. Still, if you love great American architecture, I recommend this book.

Long-awaited addition to books about Southern architecture
"The Louisiana Houses of A. Hays Town," published by Louisiana State University Press, documents 25 of the hundreds of houses designed by Town in a career that spanned the major part of the century ...Up until now Town's residential work has not been assembled into one accessible publication, making "The Louisiana Houses" a long-awaited addition to books about Southern architecture...Gould's photographs, polished, honest and generous, give the book its rare and artistic importance...Malcolm Heard, an architecture professor at Tulane, says Town figured out how to combine the familiarity of the past and the flexibility of the present, striking out on his own path at a time when most architects were following more modernist pursuits.

A fantastic, must-have book. Don't leave it on the shelf.
A fantastic new book is out that is a must-have for lovers of Louisiana interiors and exteriors alike. The Louisiana Houses of A. Hays Town (LSU Press), by Cyril E. Vetter, with photographs by Philip Gould, features 25 Louisiana homes designed by the celebrated architect. The vivid color photographs of the homes includes Town's own. In a career that includes designing more than 500 homes, Town has led architects, builders and homeowners to embrace the finest elements of Louisiana's rich architectural past. This book illuminates the momentous effect he has had on the look of Louisiana. Don't leave it on the shelf.

rare.
It was about five years ago. Physics suddenly seemed fascinating but I was struggling with math. My tutor suggested two books for me. One of them was this book. I cannot say this book was particularly helpful but it gave me a good sense of what mathematics is: its people, culture, history, and philosophy. Quite unlike E.T. Bell's Men of Mathematics, this book does not contain romantically presented stories of some math heros. And unlike some popular math books by Ian Stewart, it does not attempt to explain (rather unsuccessfully) some esoteric theories. It is just as the title suggest--what a mathematical experience can be. A book of this kind is rare.

P.S. Now, some five years later, I am not sure if mathematical knowledge maintains a separte existence as Plato had thought, and as the authors believe. (Ref. Plato, Phaedo)

The Perfect Mix of Mathematics, Philosophy and History
The best book I have read of it's type. Seemlessly incorporating Mathematics, Philosophy and History. Makes one want to really read everything in the Bibliography.

Excellent dialog on the development of mathematics..
This book was a sheer joy to read and digest. The authors skilfully comingle history, mathematics, philosophy, and biography. The result is a truly fantastic voyage into the meaning and gist of discovery and conjecture. In chapter after chapter important ideas like Fourier analysis, Non-Cantorian Set Theory, and Objects and Structures are scrutinized in a very interesting manner.

The deeper you go into the book the more will you revel in the sheer majesty and scope of the topics. I had to read the chapter on Inner Issues twice to really get everything out of the text. Topics such as Teaching and Learning are very insightful and full of little hidden gems.

If you are prepared to expend some effort and if you wish to know what mathematics "really is like", grab this book. I am sure this will become a permanent treasure in your library and you will peruse it often long into the night.

Sight & Insight: The Art of Burton Silverman

Excellent discussion of the creative process in art.
"I purchased Sight & Insight ;the art of Burton Silverman several months ago, but just came across his listing with Amazon. I think it's a beautiful book with some of the best paintings I've seen that uses representational realism. The people depicted are both very real and very arresting in a thoughtful, reflective way. It's like reading a good book and looking up to conjure the image of the character in ones mind only this artist does that for you. He doesn't exclude the viewer though, because there's a lot of ambiguity in his characters that leaves room for ones own speculations as to the meanings of the paintings. The writing, by both Prof. McGrath and Philip Saietta are excellent if sometimes difficult sledding, particularly with the Professor. But it's really a very readable and informative collection of essays. Silverman also writes about his career with compelling honesty. It's a real treat to go through this book and well worth the price, many times over."

The work of a true Maestro
Sight and Insight! As a painter this book is invaluable to me, as an appreciator of art and a viewer it is an opportunity to view some of the most magnificent and masterfully executed paintings all bound together in a spectacular reproduction of artwork in itself. The execution in his draftsmanship, the use of form and the genius of the use of color by Mr. Silverman is incredible to behold. The narrative is clear and thoughfully written. I have purchased not just one book but two, one for use in my studio as a reference book. The other is a special edition signed by the Master. All who pick up the book have a delightful treat in store for them, for each time one gazes at his art, there are new discoveries to be made. As an artist I am in awe and hold a great deal of admiration and respect for his art, to have this treasure to enjoy and learn from in the form of a book is indeed a feast.

Why Insight?
As the art director of the Merrill-Johnson Gallery, we are privileged to exhibit Mr. Silverman's work including several of the paintings in the book, "Sight and Insight". The paintings depicted in the book are fine example of the work that has made Mr. Silverman one of America's most respected realist painters. There are many books that are "how-to" paint (in fact Silverman has written two wonderful ones himself), but there are few "why-tos." "Sight and Insight" provides the reader an insight into the interpretive and artistic motivations behind his paintings. The book deserves to be in every serious art book collection for both the artist and the art appreciator.

Steel Glory,Steel Tragedy,Steel Love Story
In June of this year I returned to Pittsburgh after twenty years away from home. I returned to a place that was forever changed by the global economy. Where had the corporate powers of the Steel Valley gone? Westinghouse Electric Company no longer existed; Gulf Research was gone; the 2nd Avenue Plant of J&L Steel was a modern-day electronics industrial park and most of all, the Homestead Works of US Steel (oh yeah, USX) had become something called the Waterfront, another retail sweatshop filled with low paying, why-should-I-care-about-this jobs. This was quite an overwhelming change for the son of a Pittsburgh Steelworker to absorb. What happened to the glory days of steel? Where are the people who earned "a damn good living" and gave pieces of their hearts and souls back to the company? I found a rewarding answer in the tragedy and tribute of a novel called Souls of Steel. The author, Phillip Garrow, has taken the bits and pieces of every Steel Family's life and turned it into a literary work worthy of the company of The Bard himself. In his novel, Garrow mixes the typical (sometimes vulgar) steel man's vocabulary with a prose that is so poetic it deserves to be read aloud. Modern literature is starving for works like this. My opinion is that Souls of Steel should be mandatory reading not only for students of modern American literature, but also for the calculating geniuses produced by today's MBA factories. Souls of Steel captures the spirit of the glorious hay day of steel with the tragedy of its fall. The fall was hard, not just for the Steel Company's balance sheet but for the delicately teetering lives of the workers, who were attached to the mill's success or failure.
Garrow's ability to turn a phrase will lead me back to his work just to hear the words again. For example, he speaks of a retiree having " a smile-rich and deep as a steel man's heart". It's easy for me to envision that smile. I see it every time I look at my dad.
It's hard to believe one can find romance in the viscous, growling of the steel mill dragon, but Garrow has done just that. Obviously, I find this book not only a must read, but a must read again and again.

Souls of Steel
Souls of Steel is the most passionate love story I've ever read. At first, I thought it was a book about a steel mill worker and what it was like working for the steel mill, but its not, don't let the cover mislead you, because once you start reading, you won't be able to put this book down. Souls of Steel is so well written, you become a part of Tad and Laura's life, you'll share in their happiness and sorrows.

Souls of Steel
Souls of Steel is a magical mix of poetry and hard reality. This powerful love story arouses emotions long forgotten and brings honor to the steel working culture.

a nice addition to the library
My son rarely likes to sit still for a story, so there are few "hits" with him. This book is one of them. He'll listen to it every once in a while, but he really enjoys "reading" it himself. The friendship is obvious, and the funny predicaments the friends find themselves in delight this 3-year-old.
I think kids who DO like to be read to would enjoy it more. There is a small story about friendship and problem resolution, and differences - opposites - are treated with humor. All in all, a very nice little book for the 2 - 4 crowd.

Fun to read and teaches the concepts of big and little.
I loved this book as a child and recently found my copy at my grandmother's house. My daugther, who is 7, loves it too. Fred and Ted are best friends, and one is big and one is little.

The story keeps the child's interest and the drawings are simple, and pleasant.

I highly recommend this book for children aged 4-10. And adults will enjoy it too.

BIG DOG....LITTLE DOG
As a child I was given this book as a present. Throughout my childhood this remained my favorite book. I have purchased another copy for my child, in hopes that he will find as much enjoyment from it as I had.
