Temple Slave

Hysterical Historical Novel
"Simon, set the way-back machine for the Sixties." But unlike so many nostalgic wallows, Robert Patrick's coy fictionalization of life at "Cafe Buono" based on his very real life experiences at the grounbreaking Cafe Cino delightfully recapture tumultous, hilarious and touching times. Written in the form of a correspondence to a compatriot in the Off-Off Broadway theatrical revolution he co-founded, its a love letter to us all, gay and straight and every wonderful shade in between. Think of what a "This Is Your Life" segment would be like if Oscar Wilde hosted it....

Anger in its proper place
I was totally taken with this story of the birth of performance art and off-off Broadway. Robert Patrick appears to be writing a novel in Temple Slave (the names have been changed to protect the innocent, so to speak) but in fact gives a wonderfully angry, sweet, sad, touching, detailed and often thrilling account of his experiences as a writer, performer and gay man in New York in the 60s. There's also tons of sex but so what, if Edmund White can do it (re: THE FAREWELL SYMPHONY) why can't Robert Patrick? And if you've ever questioned the value of Warhol and Pop Art you will be as tickled as I was to find that you are not alone.

faint heart ne'er won fair laddie
And Patrick is never faint of heart. Witty, wise, deeply moving - usually all in the same 1 act play. And you get 7 plays here. My ex still hasn't given this volume back, and I hardly have the heart to ask for it, as I wish hir all the best, and this is the best... OK, I've changed my mind, either put out or give me one of my favorite books back you cur!

"Sex may be safe, but love never is."
So concludes a wisecracking AIDS recluse in the last of these hilarious and heartbreaking one-act plays. Each one covers a decade in the lives of American gay men, from the sophisticated closets of the 1920's through our grimmest hour in the 1980's. Patrick may see little progress toward liberation, whether political or personal. But each decade is etched specifically and urgently, by a master playwright. You'll shed many a tear over this one, half of them from laughter.

The X-Rated Videotape Guide V: Over 1,000 Reviews of 1993-1994 Adult Movies

Essential
Riley's and Rimmer's guide is a must-have for serious comsumers of pornography, covering, as it does, the years when (arguably) porn first skirted the crusted fringe of mainstream pop-culture. True, pornography perhaps first demanded critical scrunity when VHS brought it out of the ... booth in the 80s; but such a demand was, at best, muted. But when "Ass Rage 3" and "Natural Bone Drillers" (both given 5 stars in this guide) hit the shelves we witnessed an artistic reclamation which enabled the soi-disant culturally savvy elite to buff the chubster and bandy about terms like "Gen-X kitsch" and "post-PC irony." This tremendous guide is alive to that seminal shift, and indeed provides video-still evidence of several graphic examples of it. Hats off to the authors for such a perceptive treatment.

it was very interresting and very straight to the point .
I thought that it was a very good book if you like sex and I tried a few of the suggestions on getting to know your lover with my wife and she seemed to enjoy the new me.So that is why I am interrested in futher videos and books. Please give us new material to enjoy!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic
If you suffer from back pain or are just interested in the best, safe exercise for your back and total body, this book is a must read. The author is not a physician. He is a mechanical engineer working with the support of traditional medical professionals. His "engineer's world" perspective is refreshing and original. Nothing like I've read in other similar books

Everything You Wanted to Know About the Battle of Britain
This is a very comprehensive review of the Battle of Britain, the campaign which saved Europe from an indefinite period of darkness, oppression, and inhumanity. Without the courage and resilience of the British people and the courage, competence, and sacrifice of the young pilots and crews of the RAF from whom so much was demanded Hitler's legions would have stood triumphant over a defeated Europe. The level of detail about the technological and tactical development of aerial combat and strategic bombing from WWI to WWII, including radar, propellers, engines, gasoline, machine guns, gunsights, will attract aviation 'wonks' and the address of the broader political imperatives which led to war will attract the historian and political scientist. Mr. Jacobs' unbelievable sketches throughout add very helpful imagery of the aircraft which fought the campaign. I was intrigued, too, by the description of the influence of American aviation developments in the building of the German and British airfleets. I wish, though, the authors had addressed in more detail the effect of the early British breaking of German communication codes. A good read!

The Most Comprehensive and Best Annotated Edition Available.
There are of course many editions of Burns's poetry available, but sadly most mass-market editions seem more concerned with perpetuating some kind of twee, Brigadoony version of Burns and Scotland. Of the ostensibly scholarly paperback editions of Burns, however, I have not seen anything that comes close to Andrew Noble and Patrick Scott Hogg's for comprehensiveness, annotation, and context. Noble's introduction is brilliant and takes great care to rehabilitate Burns's image by taking him out of the hands of St. Andrew's Society sentimentality and resituating the poet in the political and social climate of his time. Burns was politically radical, sexually promiscuous, and intellectually engaged...all qualities that are effaced by the defanged, Burns supper bardie image that has been so popular with many Scots and Scottish-Americans alike. If you're seriously interested in Burns as a man and a poet, this is the edition you should own. If you want something to dust off once a year on January 25th (along with your kilt, sporran, and bagpipes), go buy one of the editions with the tartan cover.

Embodying Healing : Integrating Bodywork & Psychotherapy in
This book is the most straightforward and inclusive book I have ever read on the subject. The authors have professional and personal experience with dealing with the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. They don't shy away from any of the hard truths that one will have to confront during recovery, but they make one aware that as a survivor, they have already lived through the hardest part. The authors emphasize the fact that abuse happens to one's body, and that the body cannot be left out of the healing process. This book covers various methods of integrating the body and the mind in one's recovery, and contains many useful resources for the survivor, body worker, and therapist. This book is especially good in its ability to recognize male abuse survivors, but this book is not in any way exclusively for men. If you find this book helpful, you may also be interested in the following titles: Alive and Well: A Workbook for Recovering Your Body by Rita Ph.D Justice -- The Courage to Heal Workbook: For Women and Men Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse by Laura Davis -- The Courage to Heal : A Guide for Women Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse by Ellen Bass (Preface), Laura Davis -- Other authors that are inspirational on one's personal journey are: Marion Woodman, Nancy Qualls-Corbett, Marie-Luise Von Franz

The Enneagram - The Best Way to Understand Yourself
I have four different books and a set of audio tapes about the Enneagram. I have studied numerous personality profiling systems, most of which are based on two dimensions of personality only. The Enneagram is by far the most accurate and useful system I have experienced, and this book is the best of the ones I have studied. Its descriptions of the types are clear, insightful, and "dead on" accurate. I recommend you let this book be your first experience with the Enneagram.

A compelling, life-affirming story
Governor Casey writes eloquently about his opposition to the violence of abortion, while trying to advance politically in a party that has wholeheartedly embraced unrestricted abortion on demand. His pro-life beliefs were only strengthened by his own life-threatening health challenges as he became even more convinced of the importance of protecting lives that others have concluded are not worth living (the weak, the disabled, the unwanted).

At the same time he makes the case for protecting and respecting the innocent unborn baby, he insists that society must have great concern and compassion for the young women who find themselves in the desperate position of having an unplanned pregnancy.

There are no easy answers to abortion, but Gov. Casey's prescription of love and compassion for BOTH mother and baby would certainly be a good beginning to a possible resolution to this tragedy.

Fourier Analysis and Applications: Filtering, Numerical Computation, Wavelets (Texts in Applied Mathematics, Vol 30)

An excellent text for Fourier Analysis
I bought this book hoping to find a self-contained, semi-rigorous introduction to Fourier Analysis and its applications, and indeed I'm very pleased with the purchase. One aspect of the book's format that I enjoyed in a self-study setting is how it is partitioned into lessons (which are in turn divided into chapters). Indeed, it seemed that each lesson took me about 60-90 minutes to absorb, which is the average time most students (including myself) devote to one lesson.

Another aspect of the book I enjoyed was the fact that, on one hand the author took the time to introduce mathematically sophisticated ideas such as Lesbesgue measure and Hilbert spaces in order to make the proofs run more smoothly, but on the other there where more practical lessons on the fast Fourier transform, filters, and even wavelet analysis (last lesson). Such a blend of theory and practice in a relatively compact text seems quite rare.

Finally, I highly recommend this book for students of all levels; but especially to graduate students in mathematics, physics, and engineering.
