Commanding Boston's Irish Ninth: The Civil War Letters of Colonel Patrick R. Guiney, Ninth Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry (Irish in the Civil War, No 6)
Published in Hardcover by Fordham University Press (2002)
Authors: Patrick R. Guiney and Christian G. Samito
Amazon base price: $32.50
Average review score:

Can't wait for the movie!
Mr. Samito's work is a careful examination of a tumultuous period in American history, and a compelling human drama. Would make a great movie- better than Braveheart or The Patriot!!

A must read
This compelling book truly transported me to the nineteenth century. Mr. Samito eloquently presented the words of this little known figure in a truly remarkable fashion. The history community is truly in debt to Mr. Samito for uncovering these long lost treasures of the nations past. Any history "Buff" worth their salt needs to read this book. I only hope Mr. Samito continues to produce works of this quality for some time to come. Ken Cooper

I loved this book!
I don't normally read historical books, especialy ones about little known Civil War generals, but this one came highly recommended by a friend so I gave it a shot. I was won over immediately! As it turned out, the life of Patrick Guiney was remarkable and compelling. His letters to his wife were eloquent and heartwarming, and his courage in the face of what must have been a very painful injury was inspiring. Samito's editing was never intrusive, and elucidated the more ambiguous aspects of the text. I found his explication of the Boston cultural and political scene of the time to be particularly insightful. Overall, a surprisingly good read! Nick Cavuoto

Don't Call Me Nuts : Coping with the Stigma of Mental Illness
Published in Paperback by Recovery Press (29 May, 2001)
Authors: Patrick Corrigan and Robert Lundin
Amazon base price: $26.50
Average review score:

Outstanding!
Coping with the stigma of mental illness can, in fact, be an emotionally challenging journey to endure. So many of us "survivors," of course, are painfully aware of that reality. Dont' Call Me Nuts gives a multitude of valuable examples on how we can all do our best at successfully contending with the numerous tasks facing us. Dr. Corrigan and Mr. Lundin have made an OUTSTANDING contribution to the literary arena of mental health!

A great book for trainers
Don't Call Me Nuts is a very complete publication on the topic of stigma as it relates to mental health. The wonderful thing about the way it is written is that it could be used to teach about stigma and predjudice as they relate to any topic. This would be a very helpful book for anyone concerned about mental health or for any teachers, or corporate trainers who want to teach about the painful consequences of prejudice.

At last a book of empowerment for those with brain disorders
When this book arrived in the mail I hoped I wouldn't be disappointed or bored. I needn't have worried, it is fantastic. It reads easily, yet takes on some tough subjects such as: whether or not to disclose mental illness, addressing stigma and suggestions for handling society and bringing about greater understanding. The examples are colorful and the suggestions are useful. What a superb job Patrick Corrigan and Robert Lundin have done. I hope this team puts forth some more books for us.

Good Book
This book is about a fairy unlike any other. She cannot keep still while the elder is teaching. Primrose(her enemy) always has something to say about why she is so fidgety. She is the first woodfairy ever in recorded history to go out of the the clearing. She likes high places and loud noises unlike any other fairy who is afraid to go high and loud things. Her friend(Ivy) is the only one who will come to her house. This book is for people who feel like they dont fit in but love great adventures or for somebody who loves to read great books!

A thoroughly engaging story that comes alive
The second title in the superbly presented "Willowbe Woods Campfire Stories" picturebook series, The Not Me Monster is a charming tale entertainingly written by Ila Wallen showcasing the theme of honesty and responsibility. When Bunny makes an embarrassing but innocent mistake, she covers up her mortification by inventing a lie. But the lie brings new problems, and eventually, with help from a unicorn friend, she must confront what she's done and learn the value of honesty. The Not Me Monster is a thoroughly engaging story that comes alive with fresh, full color illustrations by Robert Sauber. Also highly recommended is the first title in the series, The Moon In My Room ...

Not Me Monster is for Us!
As the mother of a child who sometimes says "Not me," I welcome The Not Me Monster to her library. This is a fun story about how telling the truth is better than making up a fib. And my daughter LOVES the "Find the Frog" game at the end. Plus you offer additional resources to parents through your Web site. Bravo. It's nice to see some publishers truly understand parents and children.

I liked this book.
I realy liked the Not Me Monster. There was a monster in the woods. Bunny chased it away. She learned to tell the truth. It is easyr then your friends geting mad at you. I like the froggy game at the end. This is a good book. I think my friends and cuzins would like it.

5 is not even close to enough
Words cannot even begin to describe the beauty of the works of art contained in this book. If you only ever buy one book in your life to just look at the pictures let it be this one. I could sit entranced by their embroidery for hours. I agree with another reviewer who stated that you can't conceive of this art being created by human hands. If you need proof simply look at the cover. That is not a photograph folks, it is embroidered.
The photographs are also quite beatiful. Consider as you look at them that the photo's are trying to capture texture...something very elusive in that medium. In many cases you can barely tell the photo from the embroidery and in others the embroidery is an interpretation of the photo.
I cannot state this enough this book is truly, truly extraordinary and I don't think that there is anything else like it out there.

WOW!
This is, by far, the most beautiful embroidery book I've ever seen anywhere, at any time. It seems impossible that such impressive works of art could have been created. Robert Ketchum's photographs are beautiful, but the embroideries are, indeed, so breathtaking that it's hard to believe real human beings could have worked on them. This is the kind of embroidery I would love to be able to do, but it is so amazing that I know I'll never reach such a high level of expertise (at least not in this lifetime). My thanks to all the people involved in this project for sharing their special gifts with me and anyone else fortunate enough to have purchased this book or, better still, to have seen these works in person.

breathtaking embroidery
This book contains lavish photos of breathtaking embroidery from the Suzhou Embroidery Research Institute, representing the pinnacle of Chinese embroidery. Many of the examples are photorealistic interpretations of landscape photographs - an amazing achievement. It makes one understand why embroidery has long been regarded as a fine art in China, often esteemed higher than painting. A must for anyone who loves embroidery or textiles.

Investment Pricing Methods : A Guide for Accounting and Financial Professionals
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (2001)
Authors: Patrick Casabona and Robert Traficanti
Amazon base price: $90.00
Average review score:

Extremely Valuable . . . .
This book explains and illustrates (with real world examples) how to estimate the value of financial instruments that are traded on listed securitues exchanges, as well as some that are not actively traded. The book provides valuable demonstrations of how wide range practical sources of information can be used to compute prices for commercial mortgages, private-placement bonds, mortgage-backed securities, derivatives, joint ventures, and other financial instruments. Casabona and Traficanti also provide 340 slides that expedite learning...

A Primary Resource
A useful guide for both the accounting and financial professionals who must tackle valuation on a regular basis. Casabona and Traficanti explain the basics of pricing various types of fixed income securities, equity securities, and the whole gamut of derivatives. I was particularly impressed by the fact that Casabona and Traficanti do not limit themselves to publicly traded instruments; instead, they consider both the public and the nonpublic (i.e., private) markets for securities. The book is well thought out, well organized, and easy to follow . . . I can easily see it becoming a primary resource for the accounting profession and for Boards of Directors of both issuing institutions and of the investment companies that represent the target investment market for many of the instruments discussed.

Gorgeous and thoughtful
If you're interested in the art, religion, or culture of Haiti, this book is fabulous! It shows clear links between Catholic and Vodou imagery and themes, and the art is inspiring. The color photos are rich & wonderful, and consistent enough to provide a clear understanding of Haitian and Vodou artistic/spiritual traditions. In this case, a picture (or pictures in this book anyway) are worth more than 1000 words. If you're interested in Vodou and/or folk arts of the Caribbean, this book is a worthwhile purchase.

Haitian Vodou review
This book displays the wonderful art and tradition of Haitian sequined prayer flags. The layout of the book with it's full color reproductions is very well done. The text of the book beautifully describes the history and aspects of vodou religeon, in a way that speaks to all people who are touched by art and culture. I highly recomend this book especially to those interested in folk art and Haitian culture.

This is the Best Book Written on the ART of Putting
Having read just about every book on how to putt including Dave Pelz's opus on the technique and physics of the putting stroke, I can truly say this is a fabulous book that anyone who is struggling to become a skilled or just a better putter will benefit from reading. If you are having trouble getting the ball in the hole, if you are suffering from the yips, if you want to have more fun at this game of golf, then you can do no better than to read this book. It is too bad that it has not received the attention it deserves. Someone should find a way to market this book more effectively as it will help most everyone become a better putter and thereby enjoy the game more.
I really have to thank the authors for giving me hope as I was just about to abandon the game that I have played and have enjoyed for so long. BUY THIS BOOK if you are interested in improving this most important aspect of GOLF...you will not be disappointed!!!

Addresses a specific problem very compentently.
If your problem is the mental aspect of putting this book does an excellent job explaining it out for you and offers some great tips. It does not discuss the mechanics of putting. One would need to know that their mechainics are sound first.
