happy memories
As a child I remember this book as the first I read and gave me the desire to learn more about the west and the days of the pioneer spirt. As I approach the time of becoming a grandmother I will cherish the time I will spend reading this book to my little ones over and over again.

All time favorite children's book
This was my favorite book as a child. It is meatier than the typical children's tome, and filled with simple yet real life information about the buffalo and its environment toward the end of its heyday in the 1870's. I highly recommend this for any parent who wants to introduce their child to a slightly more challenging story that will stimulate the brain and encourage a more advanced intellect, without sacrificing the charm and innocence that a children's volume also needs.

Early Church Fathers Made Easy
If you have a desire to know the thought of the Early Church but have a difficult time working through the volumes of writtings of the Fathers, this book is a blessing beyond belief. Not only does Dr. Wilken allow you to hear them, but you leave the book feeling as if you know then and have walked with them.

The book not only explores the historical realities of what happened, but you experience the motivation and love of the Church that has been given down through the centuries as a precious gift.

Five stars is a gross under statement for this outstanding work. This book makes me desire to return to the class and to explore again that which I may have missed in previous studies.

Simply the best intro to the Fathers
I've read no better introduction to the Fathers for intelligent, non-academic readers. Wilken has written a clear, lyrical, and winning account of the inner life of the early Christians. And it's about more than doctrine. It's about the development of a Christian culture, with its own strains of poetry, art, philosophy, and politics. Wilken himself is obviously at home in that culture, and in love with it. If you read this book, you probably will be, too. If I could give it more than five stars, I would.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a book about good versus evil. I liked that Dr. Jelyll found out that he was doing cruel and evil things and tried to stop. The letters that the characters wrote made you want to keep on reading and not stop. Very suspenseful! Excellent!

Althusser and the Renewal of Marxist Social Theory
Published in Hardcover by University of California Press (1992)
Author: Robert Paul Resch
Amazon base price: $50.00
Used price: $21.95
Average review score:

Excellent Overview
Despite being quite a hefty tome, this is one of the best social theory books I've read in a long time. Lack of time prevents me from a quick discussion of the main themes of the book but if you're after a study that clearly sets out the ideas of Althusser and his followers, while critically defending them against postmodern and 'Marxist' polemics, and making the case for Althusser's continued relevance to revolutionary working class politics then this book is for you.

Excellent book for all genres
If you're new to creative writing, or if you teach an introductory creative writing course, I strongly recommend that you read this book. It uses a structured approach to the different aspects of writing (writing about places, situations, people, etc.) and includes many thought-provoking exercises at the end of each section. The book also includes many excerpts of autobiographical writings from well-known male and female authors, including Annie Dillard and George Orwell. Finally, the editor ties it all together with several essays that help teachers and students get the most out of the excerpts and writing exercises. I have used the book successfully for many years to refresh my own writing skills and to build the skills and confidence of my writing students. I only wish that a newer edition would be published.

Stunningly brilliant portrail of Island Life & Prejudice.
Probably Robert Luis Stevenson's most brillient work. A sensitive probeing of race relations in a turn of the century setting involving an English Trader and a beautiful island girl.

An interesting story, a sensitive love story and an exploration of what is best and what is worst in humanity. This piercing examination is as important today as when Stevenson wrote it.

One can easily understand why he did not want it published in his lifetime.
