Gleitman text a classic
This is no longer the most current edition of this text book. The Gleitman text is definitive, comprehensive, a classic. Gleitman is now over 70, and writes from extensive and broad experience in many areas of psychology. His wife is Lila Gleitman, one of the foremost living linguists in America, after Chomsky.

Henry Gleitman is a true humanist in the traditional sense. He writes with a deep sense of humanity. Within the field of psychology, he is rekowned for his teaching of intro psychology courses at Univ of Pennsylvania. When you read Gleitman's text, you get a great introduction to psychology from a true scholar who has stood at the forefront of his field for decades. His survey is taken from close personal acquaintence with many of the history-makers whose research is discussed in his book.

If you are assigning an intro psych text, this is the one. If you are taking an intro psych class, with this text, bother to do the reading.

An excellent choice for the novice
This book is an excellent choice for someone wishing to learn the basics of technical drawing. The book was prepared for a high-school level audience, but it has superb explanations of drawing concepts.

The book is divided into 25 chapters. Just some of the important topics covered are: dimensioning, line choices, views and representations of objects, partial views, and many other standard drawing conventions, just to name a few.

Although this book does address both CAD and mechanical drawing techniques, its CAD coverage is (by necessity) very limited.

My background is in chemistry, and I had taught myself AutoCAD, but until I bought this book, my drawings were poor by proper standards. After using this book every day for about two weeks, my drawing skills improved immensely, and I was able to produce high quality drawings in a very short time.

If you are new to technical drawing and wish to learn proper conventions in an easy to follow format, then you will be very glad you bought this book. Additionally, if you are wishing to create your drawings with AutoCAD, then an excellent companion to this book is "Applying AutoCAD-A Step by Step Approach" by Terry Wohlers. A word of advice: learn proper drawing techniques before trying to learn CAD.

A Great Book from an Interesting Exhibit
I bought this book after going to the museum exhibit which it documents. The book is full of useful information about Santeria/Orisha theology and philosophy. The pictures are beautiful. It is worth buying if you have an interest in Regla de Ocha or Yoruba religion and art.

"Biotechnology for Aerospace Applications" was the proceeding to a symposium on Biotechnology held at the US Air Force Academy in 1989. The personalities at the symposium were recognized experts in their specialities in Biotechnology.

The papers dealt with important issues such as alternative fuel resources, environmental remediation with microorganism, biosensors, biodegradable detergents, marine biotechnology, chemical processes with catalytic antibodies, optics, unique problems of biotech in space, etc. The only down-side of the symposium was BioSphere II, which was more fad than science.

While many of the attendees were involved in defense related work, the symposium more or less focused on a wider industry applications. Having attended this symposium, I found this book a good presentation of the discussions held.

Great book - suggestions easy to implement - very realistic
I got this book on audio tape because I travel a lot in my car. Out of the 5-6 books I have listened to over the past 3-4 months this was one of my favorites if not the favorite. Good suggestions, most easy to implement others harder because it is sometimes hard to let our kids learn some things on their own. I think using the principals in this book will help kids with their own confidence because they unterstand their own boundries better and will learn how staying wthin those boundries can be very rewarding and boost pride with the end result.

Captivity Narrative of Hannah Duston
Published in Paperback by Arion Pr (01 October, 1987)
Authors: Nathaniel Hawthorne, Cotton Mather, Henry Thoreau, and John Greenleaf Whittier
Amazon base price: $495.00
Average review score:

Rare Book but a Good Read
Hannah Duston is captured by marauding Indians in Massachusetts along with several children and nanny. She ultimately escapes and kills her captors, scalping them as proof of her story. She finds her way back home and receives 50 pounds from the government as reward for killing the Indians. Early Massachusetts was settled by Puritans. They forbade any "modern romance pulp fiction" stories, but stories concerning Indian capture was allowed and widely read. This narrative was particularly famous and commanded separate writings by 4 famous writers including Cotton Mather and HD Thoreau. The Narrative is most enjoyable as each writer has a different set of facts and writing style. My favorite is by Thoreau, but then I am a big fan of Walden and Civil Disobedience.

CB: a life of Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman
Published in Unknown Binding by Constable ()
Author: John Wilson

Average review score:

Fascinating biography
Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman was born in 1836 near Glasgow, entered Parliament in 1868, became Prime Minister in 1905, led the Liberal Party to its stunning victory in 1906, and died April 22, 1908, having resigned as Prime Minister on April 3 of that year and been succeeded by Asquith. After reading this book it might be wise to read Roy Jenkins' superb biography of Asquith. While I did not think this was as exciting a book as Jenkins' biography of Asquith, that is due only to the times that each was Prime Minister--Asquith's time was far more momentous. But I enjoyed this book thoroughly. One cannot but help admiring Campbell-Bannerman, even he was not a very hard worker. He customarily spent six weeks each fall at Marienbad. He was rather against the Boer War, and when he came to power he made peace with Botha and Smuts, to Lord Milner's disgust. The book has an excellent bibliography, listing books which I would like to read. When I read this book I noted from said bibliography three books to read: Arthur James Balfour, by Blanche Dugdale; 25 Years, by Viscount Grey, and Haldane, 1856-1915, by Maj. Gen. Sir Frederick Maurice. But since I have only read 25 Years. The other two remain on my to be read list.

A Great Deal, for James lovers and newbies
This is a tremendous book - some of the greatest stories ever written, attractively packaged and reasonably priced. These are not really "short stories", as most of them are longer than 50 pages, and they all require careful attention, but the effort is well worth it. While some are better than others, there is not a weak story in the book.
