Filling the Gap in Spanish Gay & Lesbian Literature
English (Ingles) Salir del Armario (Coming Out of the Closet) is, without hesitation, a great contribution to the Hispanic Gay & lesbian Literature. This is a very simple and easy to read book, yet is still very powerful and enlightening. The stories of 20 different Spanish men and women, who decided to come out of the closet, are beautifully narrated alternating with well developed commentaries by the author (who also tells us about his own coming out story). This is definitely a "must read" for every one out there in the process of coming out, and for all of those who want to understand a little more about what it means to be gay and be out. This is not a step-by-step manual on coming out (if such a thing even exists), however by telling us about all these true stories it makes it easier for us to find our own approach to coming out. I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

For advanced organizations and practitioners
Although over six years old, the collection of papers that comprise this book are as appliable today as when they were first written.

Each paper is a chapter, and each chapter has a place in the book's structure to give a complete picture of the software engineering process and key factors. The papers are:

Software Process Modeling - this paper deals with the modeling the software process itself, including workflows, and presents a coherent picture of how a process-oriented software development organization should be designed.

Process-centered Software Engineering Environments: A Grand Tour - this paper is a scaled down version of "Process-Centered Software Engineering Environments" (ISBN 0818671033) and reflects the ideas of one of that book's authors, Pankaj K. Garg, who has extensive experience in that subject area.

Information Management in Process-centered Software Engineering Environments - at the most abstract level this paper proposes an information management component that consists of an access management layer, integration layer and a repository, and has the following interfaces: multi-user interface component and process support component. The abstraction is looped, and is in reality a high level specification for a rdbms that supports a process-centered software engineering environment. As such it gives the functional requirements and a coarse-grained data architecture.

Human, Social and Organizational Influences on the Software Process - I liked this paper, but it doesn't address the issues with the same depth or detail as the P-CMM.

Understanding and Improving Time Usage in Software Development - this is an analysis and findings of how time is used, and the analysis examined three methods of data collection: archeology (retrospective study of one developer's time spent developing a single feature) time diaries and direct observation. The report shows how to go about investigating efficiency, but the conclusions of the particular studies documented in the paper were ambiguous in my opinion. However, the design of the analysis will give ideas of the complexities and requirements for conducting such analysis.

Cultural Adaptation of CMM: A Case Study of a Software Engineering Process Group in a Japanese Manufacturing Factory. This paper was particularly interesting because the Japanese as a whole have been disdainful of the CMM - and for good reason since their quality methods are much more rigorous than what is required below CMM level 4.

Overall, this book contains a great deal of information that will be useful to software organizations (or individual practitioners) who have a high level of capability maturity. Some of the material is esoteric and none of it will be meaningful to anyone who is not working in, or advising, a highly mature development organization. However, for those who are working in or advising such an organization nearly all of the material will provide insights and ideas with which to refine processes or implement techniques.

The struggle of ideas from Plato to Nyerere

It is an Excelent book!
For many it will be impossible to believe that the pre-colonial African states had great Philosophers unless they read The struggle of ideas from Plato to Nyerere. The dramatic presentation of Chief Mkwawa's philosophy has clearly opened my eyes to see the will and the ability to develop that chief Mkwawa had. I appreciate the good collection of philosophers from various places and periods. However, I suggest the author could add more pre-colonial African philosophers and discuss more about their ideas on 'imported' religion and interaction of different human races.

As somebody who was not that familiar with the world of Latin art, this book provided me with a better understanding of over 30 artisits and their works. The vivid color pages and exciting material which is both English and Spanish made this a wonderful purchase, a great coffee table book. I liked it so much that I am going to buy a few to give to people for gifts.

Happy reading!!!

The Way of St. Alphonsus Liguori speaks to us plainly of God's Love and Will and all it entails for us. There are no medieval obscurities, only clear loving advice and sublime spiritual exercises.

Good storyteller
Adult storybook....
I ordered this book to glimpse into the Native American mythology, and I have to say, I am very impressed. This book comprises of ten parts, each consisting of intelligent, sometimes even funny tales and facinating stories of Human Creation, World Creation, Sun-Moon-Stars, Monsters, Love and Sex, Animals and Birds, and Ghosts-to mention a few. It's filled with analogies taken from nature. All these stories come from the tribes once spread across all over the North American continent. The editors claim that some of the stories are completely "untouched" by white people and that they still convey the original folklores started some thousands of years ago.
If you are interested in idiosyncratic facts than forget about it, if you like good stories and folk-tales, this book is for you.

Excellent presentation of Indian philosophy
This excellent collection of myths and legends in the "oral history" style - either from the mouths of storytellers, or from documents where their words were first captured - presents a wonderful insight into the American Indian spiritual philosophy. The book is neatly organized into chapters from the genesis of the planet and people, through myths and legends emphasizing the social structure, to love stories, warrior myths and on to the final death and afterlife stories. Stories from tribes across the North American continent show both the divergent philsophies, as well as the common ground. The editors have wonderfully resisted any urge to edit these stories. Each chapter opens with an overview provided by Erdoes and Ortiz. There are occasional editorial explanations at the ends of stories. They should expecially be applauded for including stories with humor. As someone with Indian ancestry, but not a traditional Indian upbringing, I enjoyed the experience of spiritual concordance with the basic philosophies, no matter which tribe or region of the country was being presented. The book is easily readable by most age groups; parents of younger children could read these as entertainment and even bed-tiime stories. I consider this akin to a Bible of American Indian spirituality.

A comprehensive and diverse collection of Indian legends
"American Indian Myths and Legends" is a collection of 166 stories selected and edited by Richard Erdoes and Alfonso Ortiz that represent the heart and soul of the native people of North America. In contrast to the more familiar classical myths of ancient Greece and Roman, the genesis for these stories is much more organic, rising from the animals, plants and herb that made up the every day world of the people who told these tales. These tales also reflect the diversity of the peoples group under the name of American Indians, from the Seneca and Alconquian of the East to the White Mountain Apache and Navajo of the Southwest to the Brule Sioux and Nez Perce of the Plains.

Using an admittedly artificial system of organization, Erdoes and Ortiz present ten sections: (1) Tales of Human Creation; (2) Tales of World Creation; (3) The Eye of the Great Spirit; (4) Monsters and Monster Slayers; (5) War and the Warrior Code; (6) Tales of Love and Lust; (7) Trickster Tales; (8) Stories of Animals and Other People; (9) Ghosts and the Spirit World; and (10) Visions of the End. I have been reading my copy again to consider its inclusion in a Contemporary Mythology class I am toying with teaching, and it certainly offers students an impressive collection of myths and legends in fairly pure form. There is some commentary, but the point here is not to analyze the stories but to preserve them and present them to new readers.

However, teachers at any level who are studying myths can certainly find stories that can be used to create fascinating comparison/contrasts with tales on similar subjects from classical, Celtic, Hindu, African, or any other mythology they can get their hands on for class. I can see an excellent unit being developed just on the various creation myths of both humans and the worlds related in this book, which would provoke students to think about what difference the differences in these stories make in terms of how a people view the world and their place in it.

Note: Many of the stories in this volume were collected by the authors in their extensive field research. Others are classic accounts, which are presented in their original forms, while the rest come from 19th-century sources that have been retold by the authors in an effort to do away with the artificial style typical of the period and restore their authenticity. The result is that there is a wide spectrum of American Indian history and culture covered within these pages.

A wide-ranging exploration of systems theory and creativity
This book is itself a creative exploration of systems theory applied to cultural evolution. The connections this books make will make people think deeper about the assumptions that guide our daily affairs. A must read for anyone serious about systems theory, creativity, postmodernism, and feminism.

Exceptional
An incredibly rich exploration of how we can think about the future. This book has had a profound influence on me.

Superb example of intelligent futurism.
A brilliant discussion of social evolution, human possibilities, and the role of systems theory, feminism, and creativity in creating a positive future. Contains one of the most sensible and informative discussions of systems theory and feminism around.
