This book is just so cute. It's an affirmation that a child and his or her papa can make over and over again attesting to the warmth, love and protection that only a father can give to his child. Goes very well with it's partner book, Mama, Mama. The refs to Attachment Parenting are obvious and I highly recommend this book to anyone who parents by instinct.

This book embraces the caring and lasting bond between father and child (just as Marzollo's "Mama Mama" does for mother and child.) I would definatley recommend this book and highly recommend getting it's companion, "Mama Mama." They are an amazing duo that will instill in your child the cherished relationship between parents and children.

My daughter is now 14 months old and has loved MaMa MaMa and PaPa PaPa since she was 6 months old. She will discard other books and not pay attention, but she will sit and listen while I read these 2 books over and over again. The illustrations are wonderful, too.

The standard edition of this work in the US, and a lively one. Jean-Anthelme de Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826) is known for this book and for pithy maxims like "Adam and Eve sold themselves for an apple. What would they have done for a truffled fowl?" (That of course in the days when the truffles that most people heard of were real ones, not chocolate candies that look like them; and also when the real ones were much more plentiful and less expensive.) Memorable are the wonderful anecdotes of the kindly old priest and his "austere" meatless menu ("The Curé's Omelet," with "theoretical notes" afterwards) and of Brillat's scheme at a country inn to enhance a humble dish. This wide-ranging book established its author as an original and knowledgeable voice in French food writing, to be compared with Carême and Grimod de la Reynière.

Brillat-Savarin, among other roles, was the basis of Marcell Rouff's _The Passionate Epicure,_ a fictional book gently combining food and sex (naturally, as a friend of mine remarked, since it's French), which was widely read in English when the translation appeared in 1962. Marcella Hazan and (I believe) Julia Child cited it in their cookbooks. In his preface to the 1962 Rouff, Lawrence Durrell (himself a fashionable author at that time) explained that many in the Brillat-Savarin family "died at the dinner table, fork in hand" and that Brillat's sister Pierrette, two months before her hundredth birthday, spoke at table what are to food fanatics easily the most famous last words ever: "Vite! Apportez-moi le dessert -- je sens que je vais passer!"

Fisher's translation and notes are a lively part of this edition of Brillat-Savarin (happily reprinted recently). Some booksellers offer newer editions by different English translators; I don't know why. This semi-scholarly translation and editing, executed in France during the post-war period described in her autobiographical _Two Towns in Provence,_ was the work that established Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher among US gastronomic writers. Her later status as Official Food Celebrity encouraged journalists to cite her automatically (whether they had read her work or not), but at least this time, publicity and merit coincide.

Physiology Of Taste is an unabridged photomechnical reproduction of a classic 1925 edition and should be on the shelves of any serious and dedicated gourmet cook. Physiology Of Taste provides a timeless discussion of French food and cooking written in 1825 by a master at both culinary insight and writing. Whimsical reflection mixes with serious food insights in a most satisfying manner.

I noticed that the exact same 2 reviews are listed for both MFK Fisher's translation and the Penguin Classics edition. Let me say that I own both, and MFK Fisher's is by FAR the better one. It expresses Savarin's personality so well in English. Even though I am not a fan of her writing in general she is a first-rate translator of French! She captures the humor and poetry and makes it much more the book so many have read and loved. I've tried but I just don't enjoy the colder, more academic Penguin version. I am grateful to MFK Fisher for bringing this document to new life.

This is great book. I bought it almost 10 years ago when I was a "intermediate lerner" and I still use it to refresh my memory from time to time.
It has very clear examples and explanations.
You may read it back to back, you may also jump directly to the topic of interest, because each section is self contained.
It is not burdened by contrived stories about improbable characters running through other intermediate books. This is a book of rules; it goes directly to the point and gives one or two lines long, self-contained examples.
If you are a very advanced lerner you may need to supplement this book, but haven't found another book that does a job as good as this one at a more advanced level. So now, I mainly refer to this book, and in the rare occasions I don't find my answer there I usually have to scavenge dozens of books to find the answer I am looking for

I was first recommended this book by my English teacher when I was in high school. I read it through and felt I got a pretty good idea about English grammar and English usage in general. It was 15 years ago. Since then I completed my undergraduate and graduate degrees in institutions where English was the language of instruction, and continue using English on work. Often when I see grammar mistakes in writing or speaking, I realise that it was explained in this book and feel greatful what it taught me. I have read many other grammar books but whenever I am not sure, I still go back to this book. My teacher who recommended me this book said exactly the same thing. So I strongly recommend this book for foundation and referrence for English grammar, for those who have not found grammar book they are satisfied with.

I was tired about reading one English grammar book after the other and founding something new in each one. Finally I found this book that has every single grammar rule. I strongly recommended it if you really want to master English grammar.

This is a great book, i read it for a class, Gender and Sport, in college. Very helpful to anyone or to parents in particular.

In 1972, the Equal Rights Amendment was passed. It was called Title IX. Originally inspired to insure equal pay for female university professors, the real impact of Title IX was an explosion in girls' and womens' sports because the law required equal funding for all federally funded educational institutions. While only 20% of all institutions are in full compliance, we have seen an explosion in girls'/womens' sports plus one positive consequence for girls that no set of constitutional statutes can provide: " empowerment. " This book documents the overwhelmingly positive effects that playing sports has on self-esteem, schoolwork, career success and interpersonal/love relationships. Thoroughly written with entertaining true stories, the authors show how and why sports are so important to girls' lives. But they do not shy away from the hazards, pitfalls and confusion that girls face from the clash of mixed societal messages let alone the boys/men who can only see girls as sexual objects. Suggestions are made for sustaining the positive and preventing the negative. I am a girls' high school basketball coach. I also teach and coach young girls in basketball. Teaching and encouraging successful participation in girls' sports has become an important part of my life's work. Many of the issues that are brought up in the book are things I have had to deal with or are concerns that parents bring up with me. Any parent who sincerely wants their daughter to have a successful and rewarding experience with sports will benefit from this book because it lends support and offers advice based on experience. Like me, it is obvious that the authors love to work with girls and are very dedicated to promoting participation while erasing discrimination and inequality. It inspired me to continue my work and taught me a few things also. It was also a fun read. I didn't want the book to end. If, like me, you love working with girls, this is a must read.

When I found out the book was out I just had to get it! Reading about her and seeing the pictures of how she was so hurt made me realize was a blessed cat she was. She went through hell to save her family. If this book does not make you both cry and feel great joy, then I wonder about you. Read this book, have your children read this book, you will love it!

I've been telling my wife about this wonderful story from my childhood concerning a mouse and pirates and a hat...and today I found the title and author. YEA! I agree - 5 stars is not enough for my memory of this gem. To the family of the authors - Please pass on my heartfelt thanks to your Jean and her daughter for my favorite childhood tale!

Scuttle the Stowaway Mouse is my favorite childhood book! I still have my copy--and it is in terrible condition. That doesn't stop me from reading it to my children, though. We enjoy the story & love staring at the illustrations. I actually have the story memorized--I've known it since I was a little girl!

5 stars is not enough for this little gem. I just wish I knew where my copy was! I'm looking for it for my kids and I know they'll love it as much as I did. I can still see Scuttle, with his dubloons, in his rat (or was it cat?) resistant mansion at the end of the story. Great artwork and an engaging story make for a memorable childhood experience. NO VIDEO CAN TOUCH THIS KIND OF QUALITY. It's ashame that books like this and many others are no longer being produced, having been replaced with multicultural, revisionist, environmentalist, pseudo-story offerings.

I liked the book, even though the letter format seems a little choppy vs. regular written prose. And boy was I surprised at the end. No one could ever guess the ending which really put a spin on the entire book. Excellent erotica with intelligence.

I felt like I had a lot in common with Delphine in the beginning, in that I have been captivated by an artist's work (in may case, a musician) to the point of worship, and finally told him so. And, like the character in this book, my favorite artist became my artist friend. That's how I got carried away by this story, told entirely through the letters between the two characters. And the completely unpredictable and shocking conclusion left me feeling as betrayed as the main character. I actually did proclaim "Oh my God!!!" a bit too loudly in the room I sat reading, when it concluded. Initially, I immediately re-read the brilliant work, my eyes scanning microscopic details for the embedded clues that could have saved the main character the agony in the tragic ending. Since then, I have found myself changed... not quite taking foregranted. I now stay entirely sensitive to clues in my real world, to avoid being deceived. A word to the wise... it is a masterful work, so please do not miss out on the opportunity to engage yourself in a work like this one.

Priority is one of those rare gems that you can only hope to stumble upon every now and then. It is the sensuous, poetic journey of two lovers who have never met, but are on an inevitable collision course with destiny. It reminded me of the exotic and delightful correspondnce in the Griffin and Sabine trilogy by Nick Bantock, but left me with a sense of fulfillment at the end, even with it's surprising and extraordinary twist.
