Brillat-Savarin, among other roles, was the basis of Marcell Rouff's _The Passionate Epicure,_ a fictional book gently combining food and sex (naturally, as a friend of mine remarked, since it's French), which was widely read in English when the translation appeared in 1962. Marcella Hazan and (I believe) Julia Child cited it in their cookbooks. In his preface to the 1962 Rouff, Lawrence Durrell (himself a fashionable author at that time) explained that many in the Brillat-Savarin family "died at the dinner table, fork in hand" and that Brillat's sister Pierrette, two months before her hundredth birthday, spoke at table what are to food fanatics easily the most famous last words ever: "Vite! Apportez-moi le dessert -- je sens que je vais passer!"
Fisher's translation and notes are a lively part of this edition of Brillat-Savarin (happily reprinted recently). Some booksellers offer newer editions by different English translators; I don't know why. This semi-scholarly translation and editing, executed in France during the post-war period described in her autobiographical _Two Towns in Provence,_ was the work that established Mary Frances Kennedy Fisher among US gastronomic writers. Her later status as Official Food Celebrity encouraged journalists to cite her automatically (whether they had read her work or not), but at least this time, publicity and merit coincide.

It has very clear examples and explanations.
You may read it back to back, you may also jump directly to the topic of interest, because each section is self contained.
It is not burdened by contrived stories about improbable characters running through other intermediate books. This is a book of rules; it goes directly to the point and gives one or two lines long, self-contained examples.
If you are a very advanced lerner you may need to supplement this book, but haven't found another book that does a job as good as this one at a more advanced level. So now, I mainly refer to this book, and in the rare occasions I don't find my answer there I usually have to scavenge dozens of books to find the answer I am looking for

Jean and Ori have put together the best cheat sheet for people straddling the language gap between modern manufacturing and old school accounting. I can't recommend "Real Numbers" enough. Mine is already dog-eared. I carry it with me to international planning meetings to help me translate the smoke and mirrors that can fill the room.
"Real Numbers" is filled with concise, easy-to-understand chapters that assist any decision-maker in understanding the transition from bean counter to business partner. Every chapter has a value-adding how-to approach to overcome the major mental hurdles blocking lean enterprise: controlling wasteful transactions instead of eliminating them, supporting rear-view driving instead of agile leadership, covering every contingent instead of reporting accurately what is needed and when.
Most companies attempting lean transition run into the failure of business accounting to update its methods in stride with lean thinking. This book explains how accountants can see themselves in a new role bridging that gap. And seeing that new role with a shared accounting language is half the battle - won.

Scarlet may be just a cat to some, but to me she personifies everything a mother should be! If you care about animals, you can't help but love Scarlet. You will be deeply touched by the many caring humans who became intertwined in her little life. From the truly compassionate firefighter, David Gianelli, to the woman who eventually adopted Scarlet, you'll pleasantly savor and revel in the goodness of mankind.
This book should be recommended reading in our public schools because it lovingly teaches children compassion and virtues. Though the photos of a severely burned Scarlet are graphic, they poignantly illustrate the depth of her devotion and willingness to suffer pain in order to save the lives of her babies.
I loved this book. I love knowing that Scarlet is forever loved and cherished and has left a indelible memory in the hearts of caring people everywhere.
