Is the World Running Down?: Crisis in the Christian Worldview

Great in-depth look at modern views of the law of entropy!
Gary North details in this book the modern defense of 6-day creationism by evangelical theologians using the second law of thermodynamics (entropy), and the use by New Age theologians (such as Jeremy Rifkin) of this principle of physics to defend the view that the world and its resources are inevitably running out. North gives cogent arguments that 1)the universe is not a closed system, since it is dependent upon God for its life, sustenance, and replenishment; 2) the resurrection of Jesus Christ has tremendous implications for the physical creation, since the covenant blessings of God can and will rest on the physical world He has made, as men and nations are converted to the gospel of Christ; and 3) the employing of the logic of the law of entropy by New Age theologians is merely a smokescreen to disguise the socialistic/communistic tendencies of those who seek ultimate control of the world and its resources. Those who would refute evolutionism, as well as those who would incline toward the conrol of the world and its resources must reckon with Dr. North's sound reasoning and arguments. Your credits for editorship and contribution are in error
To cite Meriwether Lewis as Editor of this and other volumes of this University of Nebraska Press edition, edited by Moulton, is an injustice to Moulton. Lewis' efforts never got beyond a pros- pectus. Further, to list Clark as merely a con- tributor, is unforgiveable.

A guide to help Christians better understand Judaism
This is a comprehensive yet difficult book. In it, Gary North painstakingly details how modern Judaism is based more on the writings of the Talmud and the Mishna than it is on the writings contained in what Christians refer to as the Old Testament. Many Christians will no doubt be shocked at some of what is contained in the Talmud, while many people of the Jewish faith may become defensive (as well as quite possibly shocked themselves). While much has been made lately of the inflammitory rhetoric found in the Koran (and in that regard I highly recommend the book "Why I am Not a Muslim"), virtually no mention has been made of the equally inflammitory materials found in the Talmud. The fact is, all three religious traditions have their darker moments, and Judaism is no exception. This book will hopefully add to the dialogue between Christians and Jews. I would say, as difficult as the book is, it is a must-read.

Classic book on plate tectonics.
This is a fabulous book describing how the continents were formed. I am a salesperson with no scientific background and I loved Ron Redfern's descriptions, pictures and especially graphics and timelines. I understood it. Wonderful. I wish he had written another.

Personal Responsibility vs. Escapism
Gary North demonstrates from the book of Exodus that true religion, which he calls dominion religion is in a battle with humanistic power religion and its acomplice - escape religion. Discussed in terms of theology and politics (which do mix), modern applications become very apparent. Many in the modern church don't want to take responsibility, under God, for today's political messes. As if something is off-limits for God. Moses and Pharaoh demonstrate what the christian's responsibility is.

No religious test oaths: The weakness in the US Constitution
Requiring a Trinitarian Oath as a test for public office. This seems blasphemous to modern man. Even the modern christian. However, such oaths were part of western tradition for centuries and the US Constitution broke this tradition. In Political Polytheism, Dr. North presents a strong case from scripture and history that religion and politics are inseparable. After reading this controversial book, I was angry that my previous view of our nations foundations had been shattered. Yet at the same time, I knew that what I was reading was the truth. And for that I am thankful. This book will change the way you think about politics.

....written with honesty and authenticity .....
Having worked for several years as a teacher on the Navajo Reservation, RAINY'S POWWOW brings to mind the wonderful children with whom I've worked and their beautiful cultural heritage. This book is a loving tribute to a people the author obviously respects. It is written with honesty and authenticity to show the color, pagentry and formality of the proud Native American tradition of Powwow. The underlying themes of honor and giving celebrate values we all hope to instill in children from any cultural background. I look forward to using this beautiful story as a teaching tool in my classroom for years to come.

Rolling Thunder
While Mr. Benson's first volume, "The Art of Railroad Photography", was outstanding, the photography in this volume is simply exquisite! Mr. Benson has really outdone himself on this one, and shows what a gifted photographer (his vocation) can do! (Unfortunately, this was Mr. Gary Benson's final railbook, as he has since passed away)

The wake-up call for Christians active in the civil arena
This is the best book I have found to set the starting place for Christians wanting to get involved in the civic arena. I believe some are called to be civil ministers, and Dr. Norths sets out the very first hurdle Christians must face: Who are you going to serve?

Victim's Rights: The Biblical View of Civil Justice

An outstanding book! Exceptionally thought-provoking!
In my opinion, this is one of Gary North's best books, right up there with "The Sinai Strategy" and "Honest Money." In this book, which is a spin-off of "Tools of Dominion: The Case Laws of Exodus," North describes the Biblical view of the law as it is found in Exocus 21-22 and then applies that perspective to contemporary legal situations. The results are truly eye-opening.

Why, for example, when a thief robs a victim, does the thief pay damages to the State rather than the person he robbed? Why does the victim of the crime often receive nothing for having been robbed (unless he receives it though the insurance he himself paid for)? Why do the fines from speeding tickets go into the general funds of the city or county in which the infraction occured, rather than go into a fund to pay for the injuries to other drivers and pedestrians who are hit by speeders? When the funds go to the city, doesn't this encourage the corruption of underposting the speed limit, speed traps and ticket quotas for traffic cops?

Who is the victim of crime, the person who was robbed, beaten up or the family members of the person who was murdered, or is the victim of crime the State? Who should receive restitution from the offender, the victim or the State? Under our present non-Biblical system, the State receives the compensation from the criminal, not the actual victim of crime. It doesn't make sense. And because of that, our society is becoming increasingly lawless over time, not law-abiding.

I most highly recommend this book to anybody who is interested in better understanding the Biblical view of one of the major social issues of our time. Regardless of whether or not you are a Christian, this book will have you thinking and reflecting deeply on the issues it brings up.
