I first came across Bouyer's "Eucharist" at Boston College. The excerpts used in class were enough to convince me I had to have this book. Bouyer can flow too much, even in the French original, and this translation has its occasional problems but I'd call this the best work on the Eucharist I've ever read. Gone are the meandering fantasies based on secondary sources and aristotelian metaphysical categories with their host of false problems. Here is the Eucharist at the moment the rich garden of Israel set its perfumed fruit on the altar of the new 'memorial' sacrifice of the God-man. Bouyer writes "There are many theologies on the eucharist. They are practically never the theology of the eucharist . . ." Sound over-the-top? Read it.

I don't have much to say except that this is a really well put together edition of The Spirit of the Laws. The translation is very readable. The introduction is well written. And the notes at the beginning of each book are very helpful.

For almost 300 years this classical political work of Montesquieu has been must study for anyone interested in creating or supporting a government, dictatorial or democratic, it doing yoeman work for all varieties. But now Montesquieu's classic has been hurried into late Twentieth-Century modernity by the curious Castroite and Venezuelan president, Hugo Chavez Frias. For Mr. Chavez, and his babbling coterie of marxists, has just force fed the Venzuelans a "new" constitution which claims to improve, inter alia, on the French baron's division of government into three branches, Executive, Legislative and Judicial, by adding two more branches, Moral and Electoral (sic). The reader -- Chavez's sans culottes are functionally illiterate -- can doubtless puncture these pretensions for himself. Even so, it is a shame that Montesquieu is not present to do so. In his absence, however, the reader will find the excellent work of Prof. Carrithers -- Kiplingesque with prefaces, introductory notes and appendices -- invaluable should he be disposed to investigate the "new" Venezuelan Constitution.

I purchased the seventh edition of this book when I entered college. This book saved my life when writing essays, term papers and while test taking. Most of the professors approved the use of this book during essay tests.
This book is a SIMPLE reference book, and gives you the correct spelling of a word without the hassel of a dictonary. It is a small book and is easy transported (in my case since I am a woman, in my purse). I highly recommend this book for high school and college students, or anyone that has a job that requires writing. This book is a MUST for those who want and need to spell words correctly.

The Bible on fencing. The most complete and comprehensive guide to strategy and tactics of fencing I have ever come across. This classic will appeal mostly to serious practitioners of the art, who will appreciate the depth and intricacy of C.L. de Beaumont's discussions on swordplay. All three weapons are covered along with principles of offense, defense, counter-offense, similar and distinct for all three weapons. Each type of stroke is dealt with, not only in the ways to do them but with various considerations such as timing, circumstance, rationale, appropriacy. Also, copious guidelines for honing practice and aims for developing high-calibre proficiency. If you have read Roger Crosnier's books (out of print) on tactics, this book goes much beyond that. A very business-like treatment of fencing, where tactics and strategies are dissected and analyzed in minute detail. A definite must for serious fencers.

This is one of the best books on a rather broad subject matter. The authors have done a commendable job of covering the availability and use of firearms during one of the most dramatic times in American history. Not only do they document the use of major manufacturers products, they also cover the use and possession of lesser known products as well. This is a well written and entertaining compendium of information that is bound to go down in literature history as one of the great books on the subject it covers. I recommend this book if you have any interest in this subject. It is well worth the money spent!

This is an excellent book written on the liturgy of the Episcopal Church. It was originally written shortly before the '79 prayer book was published so Liturgy for Living can function as a great "teaching tool" to learn about the meaning behind the rituals of the Episcopal Church.
I highly recommended the book.

As the sample pages show, Bouyer spends the first 119 pages exploring the Jewish context of the Eucharist, bringing to light the concepts of 'berakoth' (liturgical formulae for blessing a meal) and 'tefillah' (other liturgical prayers), which were immediately adopted by the early Jewish Christians.
He then goes through the whole of Christian history, East and West, tracing the liturgical and biblical meaning of the shared meal of the faithful. Very exhaustive and well done! You will not go wrong with this one, and the price is a great deal!
You may also enjoy 'The Eucharist Makes the Church' by McPartlan, 'Eucharist and Church Fellowship in the First Four Centuries' by Elert, and the works of Joachim Jeremias such as 'The Eucharistic Words of Jesus. Enjoy!
