Inspiring Thoughts from a Contemporary Saint.
This small book contains short reflections of Mother Teresa of Calcutta taken from her various addresses, meditations, prayers and letters. These extracts are classified and placed under eleven heads for easy access. One can savor this book piece by piece using these thoughts for personal reflection and prayer. Very economic in words and at the same time personal and direct in her style, she is very persuasive. The extracts have certain forcefulness about them setting the fire of love ablaze in our hearts. This book also has a thought-provoking introduction by Malcolm Muggeridge who reflects on the person of Mother Teresa through his own experiences with her.

HE'S PUT THE WHOLE WORLD IN HER HANDS

Silhouette Paper-cuttings by Dan Paulos Quotations by Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Ignatius Press, 128 pp. $21.95 cloth

At first glance HE'S PUT THE WHOLE WORLD IN HER HANDS appears to be a beautiful coffee-table book. It is that, but much more! The juxtaposition of Dan Paulos' stunning paper-cuttings with Mother Teresa's inspiring words makes this book a meditative journey into both Mary's life and our own.

Paulos' meticulous artistry breathes life and vibrancy into these black and white silhouettes. An American Catholic, his work was inspired by his mentor, the late Dominican Sister Mary Jean Dorcy. He sent a copy of his first book, a collaboration with Sister Mary Jean, to Mother Teresa and she accepted his proposal that they collaborate on this work.

The sixty-three pieces in this volume focus on the life of Mary. "Mary, Mother of God, was the first disciple of Jesus," Paulos says. "She was perfectly open to God's will and continues even now, to be a responsive model for all people." His depiction of the Virgin includes not only the key moments of her life recorded in scripture, but also many traditional and contemporary visions of her life and ongoing role in the Church. Among these are beautiful pieces such as "MARY'S LAST AUTUMN" - "APACHE MADONNA" and "MADONNA OF THE SLAUGHTERED JEWS."

Paulos spent three years researching Mother Teresa's quotations, matching them to his art work. Together they portray a deep love for the Blessed Mother and mirror her compassion for all people and her special concern for the poor. Mother Teresa's words have been rendered in beautiful calligraphy by twenty-four different calligraphers. The variety of their styles allow each quote to speak powerfully and uniquely.

This books was also translated into Japanese and published by Don Bosco Press in Tokyo. It later was translated into Italian, and was published by the Vatican.

H! E'S PUT THE WHOLE WORLD IN HER HANDS is a wonderful book for prayerful reflection - and would be a treasured gift to a friend.

A Source for Profound Reflection and Prayer
This small book is a treasure trove of short reflections by Mother Teresa, prayers and meditations from many of her co-workers, texts and quotes from various saints. Mother Teresa shares her simple but profound spiritual thoughts through pieces of her personal experience in working with the poor and the dying. The other texts from the Bible and other disciplines in the context are equally inspiring. The book invites one to meditation and prayer which is the key to one's growth in love of God, personal peace and joy. Kathryn Spink who has edited the work has done a good job of arranging them so well to create a valuable instrument for spiritual instruction and prayer.

Mother Teresa's Spiritual Thoughts.
"The Love of Christ" is a collection of spiritual counsels by Mother Teresa edited into four parts by Georges Gorree and Jean Barbier. The first two parts deal with the subjects of 'God' and 'The Other'. The editors draw from the words of Mother Teresa found in Malcolm Muggeridge's 'Something Beautiful for God' and an earlier work of theirs called 'Amour sans Frontiere'. In these sections the words of Mother Teresa are interspersed with some commentary by the editors. The part III has extracts from Mother Teresa's letters to her sisters and part IV is a commentary on the constitution of the Missionaries of Charity by Mother Teresa. All these counsels reflect a simple and consistently earnest and zealous person filled with the love of God. She has a clear and direct style and no one can miss the fire in her heart. It is a valuable source book to know this modern saint more closely and to draw inspiration from her.

This is the kind of book that is useful for meditation and reflection. Its companion books "A Gift for God" and "Life in the Spirit" by the same publishers, are equally inspiring.

Joyful, compassionate, full of the power of the Holy Spirit
Small gems, filled with great love, fill this book of daily meditations by Mother Teresa of Calcutta, which can be read over and over again, year after year. If you are acquainted with her writing and speeches, you will recognize some of the quotes, while others will be fresh and new.

Every Sunday brings a new Bible quote, followed by a week of reflections on that quote. Here is food for thought, food for meditation, food for prayer. As she fed the hungry bodies of the Poorest of the Poor, Mother Teresa's words feed the mind, heart, and soul of the reader. They give a flavor of God's Love to each new day.

The occasional photos scattered throughout the book bring smiles or grip the heart with compassion or awe. In keeping with her simple and direct way, everything in the book is simple to read, simple to look at, and, like Mother Teresa herself, filled with the mystery of God's Love which passes all understanding.

Works of Love are Works of Peace
This commemorative volume is the authorised work by Sunita Kumar that the Missionaries of Charity sanctioned. In memory of the going home of Mother to God, one year after, this is a fitting tribute to the greatest lady of our time and truly a living Saint. Sunita Kumar, as a Co-Worker, knew Mother for many years and fittingly put this knowledge and familiarity to use here. She writes of the work that Mother has done, fills us in on important dates in Mother's life and also features pictures that have rarely been seen. The black and white photographs serve to depict the intensity in Mother's visage yet still beaming with love and affection when tending to the poor. The coloured photographs provide a vivid and graphic look at the work which is overflowing with love and faith. Clear and concise captions take us through the photographs and show us just what the work was about. From photographs of Mother back in Albania as a child to her work among the poor to her receiving the Nobel Peace Prize to the pomp and circumstance of the state funeral accorded to her, all these are mere representations of the person that was Mother. Her greatness is introduced here but will never be reproduced. We will never see her like again. May she rest in peace at home with God.

Such a fulfilling read and an inspiring story
I so enjoyed this book. The selflessness that one human being can possess is just so humbling for all of us to experience. This book truly kept my interest and was presented in such an remarkable way. The quotes were such a wonderful accompaniment to the sections and the photographs were so helpful to fully understand the true depth of this real-life, real angel and real saint story.

Life of Mother Teresa in Word and Image.
This pictorial biography is a beautiful tribute to the Nobel Prize laureate and acclaimed Catholic saint of the 20th century, Mother Teresa. Her long life of service to the poorest of the poor and the public recognition she received are well highlighted here with text and photographs. Beginning with her early childhood in the Balkans, the book lays out before the reader her vocation, her founding of a new order and the fast spread of it, the respect and honor she commanded, to her retirement and eventual death in 1997. It is indeed the extraordinary story of a woman whose faith and dedication combined with love and compassion for others made her a symbol of loving kindness and benevolence in the whole world. The story is skillfully told in words and in pictures. There are more than 100 full color as well as black and white photographs presented in this magnificent tribute to the most courageously compassionate person of our times.

Seeing is Believing
Mother Teresa never wanted her life to be written about or paid attention to. Her intent when interviewed, was that the work was featured first and foremost. Writing of the work, however, regardless of the fluidity of the words, the impact of the passage or the transparency of the truth, nothing can ever truly project the work of Mother and the Missionaries of Charity. This picture volume however, comes one step closer. Featuring pictures taken of Mother and the sisters at their work among the poor in Calcutta, it is truly an eye-opening experience. The starkness of the black and white photographs bring out and bring across how lost and desolate the poor would be if not for the unchartered and unparalled love and care given to them. Every image, be it of Mother cradling a child with her intense look and stong hands or be it of Mother with Princess Diana or other celebrities, allows us a little glimpse into the world that has been made better by Mother. As she herself put it "What you can do, I cannot do and what I can do, you cannot do. But let every action of ours be something beautful for God". This is the very essence of the photographs depicted here and brings us this much closer to understanding the work of Mother and the Missionaries of Charity. A volume to be treasured. Indeed, it is something beautiful for God.
