Best Greek Mythology Fiction!
YOU CANNOT MISS THIS BOOK! This book really goes into Greek myhtology and it is a story equivalent to Theseus and the Minotaur. I liked the adventure and the vividness of this book. I also love Greek mythology. All information here are 100% accurate.

It is about a princess of Crete nemed Ariadne. She was a daughter of King Minos of Crete and Queen Pasiphae. Queen Pasiphae also gave birth to the Minotaur, a half-man and half-bull beast. Athens had to pay 9 youths every seven years to feed the Minotaur. Once, Theseus, the King of Athens' son came to Crete, Ariadne fell in love with him. They danced in the banquet room and later Ariadne helped Theseus to kill the Minotaur by the help of the architect Daedalus. Theseus killed the Minotaur and they at once set sail for Athens with the rescued Athenians. However, Dionysus wanted Ariadne as his bride and Theseus had to leave Ariadne at Naxos. Sionysus became Ariadne's husband.

Great, challenging poetry for children and adults
Nancy Willard is probably best known as a children's poet for her justly celebrated William Blake's Inn, but to my taste this book surpasses the better-known one. Like William Blake's Inn, this book consists of a cycle of poems, most of them roughly in ballad style, some mainly narrative and some mainly lyrical, some more whimsical than others, some quite complex. The central character is a "wise woman of Clare" who communes with animals and helps those in need (including a gypsy queen and a poor man who has killed his landlord). The poems are far from simple, but they are consistently affecting and satisfying both to children and to adults. I have loved reading it to my children, and I have found it to be a wonderful introduction to the pleasures of "real" poetry for them - this is real poetry, not doggerel at all, although written to be appreciated by children. I wish I could find more copies in print.

One of the best adaptations yet
I have always loved the story "beauty and the beast" and have started to read different adaptations of it. My favorite ones are "the rose daughter" and "Beauty" by Robin McKinly. I first found this book in the elementary library of my school and immediately fell in love with it. I must have checked it out ten times. Now I am in sixth grade, and I decided since I love it so much I would like to buy it. I first looked here, since amazon has everything, but woe to me! It is out of print. Now I am scouring every used bookstore I come across for Nancy willards wonderful book. For other lovers of this tale, don't give up! Oh please, don't bail! This book is someplace to be found, and if you do you will be crowned! ;-)

Birds in an idyllic setting help a girl to find a new home.
Children are fascinated by this beautifully illustrated picture book about a homeless young girl who discovers a house where birds gather. Cynthia Rylant's beautiful prose makes this an excellent read-aloud.It has been a favorite in our school library, and has led to many interesting discussions and written responses.

A very pleasant picturebook for young readers.
Dippers is a pleasant picturebook for young readers about a hot summer in 1912, when fanciful creatures that author Barbara Nichol calls "dippers" came up from the Don River. The Dippers are most curious beings indeed, at first glance resembling cat-sized shrews with wings. Barry Moser's full-page illustrations in soft tones enhance Nichol's inquisitive prose making Dippers a pleasure for young readers who have just graduated from easy-reader picturebooks and are ready to try something with slightly longer and with more complex sentences.

WOW!!!
Unbelieveable!!! This book was without a doubt one of the best and most amazing books in Western Literature. This part of the Divine Comedy was incredible, especially when you consider that Dante almost completely invented the image of Purgatory!! Some people say that after they read the Inferno that this part is not quite so good. I have to disagree. I found this part of the Comedy to be just as gripping and amazing as the Inferno. PLEASE READ THIS BOOK IF YOU LIKE TO READ AT ALL!!!!!

What's Shaking.....
Little Chucky Ducky had just finished his morning swim when it happened. "He heard the ground grumble. He felt the ground rumble. And then, with a stumble, Chucky Ducky went down in a tumble!" The earth is crumbling. It's a quake and he has to warn his friends. He races around the barnyard, telling everyone, Lucy Goosey, Vickie, Nickie, and Rickie Chickie, Brewster Rooster who finally sounds the alarm even though "...I only doodle-doo once a day," Sue Ewe and her kids, Sam and Pam Lamb, Nanny Goat, Iggy Piggy, and Merle Squirrel. They all hear the grumble, feel the rumble, and see the crumble. Now what are they going to do? And that's when a wiley, wormy weasel, disguised as benign and helpful Herman Ermine steps onto the scene with a solution..... Inspired by Henny Penny and his falling sky, Margie Palatini has written a fun-filled, manic romp that's sure to be a storytime crowd pleaser. Her engaging text, filled with lots of humor, rhyme, rhythm, wordplay, puns, and alliteration, just begs to be read aloud, and is complemented by Barry Moser's bold, bright and expressive illustrations. Each barnyard spread is rich in color, marvelous facial expressions, and eye-catching detail. With a hilarious surprise twist at the end to set everything right once again, Earthquack is perfect for youngsters 3-7, and is a rollicking good time that shouldn't be missed.

Father-daughter duo Madeline Moser (author) and Barry Moser (illustrator) not only know the Aardwolf, but 19 other unknown mysterious creatures, including a babirusa, an emperor tamarin and a zorilla. Which are all creatively captured in this amazing book. Each animal has its own written description and pronunciation, that are easy enough for any child to read and detailed enough for any adult to enjoy. The famous illustrator, Barry Moser, highlights these descriptions with his rich dark wood engravings. These over looked animals are treat for anyone childlike who enjoys nature's dark imagination.

Rip-Off
I'm afraid I can't be as generous as the reviewer below. This book's very existence is sickening to me, as a reminder that no writer's reputation, however great, is safe from the greed of dishonest relatives. Note that the same aunt who shopped this tripe around wrote a "biography" of her nephew ("Truman Capote"), full of racism, lies, and nauseating family gossip. This book is worse, though, if only because she put his name as author. My local library has at least five copies of this trash, yet not a single copy of "A Tree of Night" or other collections actually written by Capote. A downer in every way.

A Hoax
This is a comment, rather than a review, so please ignore the star rating.

As an admirer of Capote, I immediately purchased this book when it first appeared in 1985. According to the jacket, it was "rediscovered" in 1984 and was published with, what I consider, lovely illustrations. However, according to Gerald Clarke (Capote's biographer), Capote's aunt, who offered the book for publication, did not provide proof that Capote was the author. I was one of many readers who assumed the book was genuine. Although it is a hoax, I cannot part with it--I consider it part of my "Truman" trivia.
