In the second edition of Treasures Against Time there are a series of lectures entitled "Yoga Explained", given by Doctor Lewis during his tenure as minister at the Encinitas Ashram.
These lectures contain some of the most profund utterances about the esoteric truths of Yoga ever put to paper.
It was my distinct pleasure and blessing to have known Doctor Lewis as our minister at Self-Realization and as a counselor to all who asked his advice. This extraordinary man had reached the pinnacle of spiritual perfection by following the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda. His spiritual state was beyond the ken of us ordinary mortals, but Paramahansa Yogananda said of him, "Doctor Lewis not only gives you my words, he gives you my spirit."

This book is unique, written by and about the first western Kriyaban disciples of Yogananda. Yogananda's letters to Dr. Lewis and the photographs of Yogananda are unavailable anywhere else. It is truly a beautiful book.

It was so hard dealing with the tragic loss of our beloved rabbit, "Bunny". I was especially drawn to the book because the author wrote the book while also dealing with the loss of her pet rabbit. Stuparyk was able to convey in words, what everyone dealing with a pet loss endures. I found extreme comfort from each and every poem and could whole heartedly relate to all of her feelings. I recommend this to anyone dealing with the loss of their furry friend.

Through reading Emily's experiences I draw comfort in knowing that these thoughts are such a part of us all! The need for "reconnecting" in one of her passages, where one wants "just one more touch, one more day" is so true. Moreover, the constant reassurance that God is watching over our beloved pets is something I think of each day. Why shouldn't they be looked after as we hope for ourselves, for they are such an innocent life. I guess, death in all its darkness, appears to make us all more compassionate and honest with each other. At least I would hope. I know I am a better person to have shared my life with my Benjamin bunny, who reminded me throughout his days, of the REAL definition of humanity. And in his memory,I wish to thank-you, Emily, for doing the work that you do!

In this sensitive and honest work, the author shares her truest feelings about losing her beloved pet. Her feelings show us that having an animal loss (as opposed to human loss) in one's life does not diminish it's intensity or grief. The bond between animal and human is so great (in the shamanistic sense, the rabbit has become her power animal) that upon losing the pet, she has lost a part of herself. As with a human loss, another rabbit cannot replace the one who has died. She shows us how she passes from one stage of grief to another. In time, she realizes that Poochie,the rabbit never left her side and her memories enable her to go on with her life. This book is the most beautifully sensitive acount of one's experience with pet loss. As the poems are written straight from the heart, you will laugh and cry as you learn how Poochie made such a great impact on the author's life.

This is a wonderful story, in question and answer format, of a young one and its mother heading home. As they go, Baby wonders if Mother would still take care of it if it was something else -- animate or inanimate. A number of possibilities are ventured, and Mother answers, as mothers do, that she will be there in some perfect way to take care of Baby. The illustrations are warm and cozy and this is a terrific read. This book deserves much more attention than it has apparently received, as it communicates a message that is very comforting to young children.

This book also makes a terrific present.

I found the book to depict in an excellent way the unspoken between a parent and child. The depth of the author's understanding the emotional bond is clear and profound. The illustrations are wonderfully crafted, and lend significantly to the narrative.

Author does an excellent job of telling abut unconditional devotion and love. The young kangaroo is not identified as being either male or female, so every child can imagine him or herself as having this conversation with a loved adult. Wonderful addition to bedtime rituals or cozy one-on-one time!

The trend is for artists to write books that accompany their new album releases, though most of them are quite average. Margaret Becker not only avoids mediocrity, she rises far, far above it with this book. It's a collection of thoughts, essays, and observations that, thanks to her stark honesty and poetic style, are a pure joy to read, moving, and challenging. Becker's lyrics are always remarkable and she shows that she's got the talent to transfer that skill to a more traditional literary arena here. Five Stars, and a steaming cafe mocha for you to enjoy while you read.

Margaret Becker's essays are so well-written and vivid, packed full of layered meaning and honesty. As with her music, she is not afraid to expose her vulnerability and her flaws; rather, she celebrates them as opportunities to see God more clearly and lean closer to His face. Her lyrical prose is easy to read, with an attention to detail and an understanding for the God-Man relationship that stir the senses as well as the spirit. This is not your typical little "Christian-music-star-writes-a-diary" devotional book. This one truly delivers, devoid of pretense but brimming over with soul.

Over 20 essays that bring into focus the grandeur in life's simplest experiences. After reading this book, I found myself hungering for more of this wild, wonderful ride we call life. Ms. Becker's words paint pictures using a rainbow palette of pure compassion.

There is a part of all women who are strong-willed, determined and devoted to their family. This is a story of one of those strong German women who had every trial you could imagine in addition to a husband that you will come to get very angry at when you read this book! She continued to love and defend him, however, and lived her life with a positive, loving attitude.

If you like Western History, you will love this! If you like to learn from our ancestors, you will learn from this! Good Buy!

There were many families who came West on the Oregon Trail and this story is no doubt one that happened to thousands of others. This story describes the details of the hardships and trials one family had. It is also a beautiful example of how the early settlers helped each other survive....today we call it community. The book demonstrates how fast the children of that era grew up and the immense responsibilities they had at very young ages. I could put myself in the center of that log home with the cold Wyoming wind coming through the cracks as I watched the mice under burlap sacks that lined the walls. If you like western history, you will love this book.

An actual historical biography authored by the daughter-in-law of a covered wagon pioneer woman, this story puts our own current existence into perspective. Pauline not only survived the desolate Wyoming winters, alone with 8 children in a single room, but thrived. Her triumphs and defeats cut to the core of who I am and I suddenly recognize the vast depth of the human spirit; won for me by the likes of women like her. I will read it to my children and hope they read it to theirs.

Fantastic Book! I never knew that there were so many things available for our "best friends" I would highly recommend the book.

I think this is sooooo cute! My little Donnie, my black cocker spaniel, he's gonna love this too! I never knew there was so much out there for our "children!"

I have an Eskimo Spitz named Chubby who is smarter than most people I know. I've had him for 4 years and he is my constant companion. When I read this book I knew the author was talking for me and my friends who have dogs who are their children. Chubby is always happy and cheerful and just thrilled to be with me. We go everywhere together. If you love your dog, you will love this book and be happy that this author comes right out and says what many of us dog lovers have always secretely thought: a dog can be a better companion and friend than many people. Read it. You'll love it and even get some good ideas for gifts.

These books were a delightful part of my childhood, I grew up in southeast Alabama and visited many of the haunted sights (the hole that wouldn't stay filled, the grave of the dancing ghost, Huntington College, et al). I recall attending a "storytelling" by Mrs. Wyndham in the 1970's, never was it more fun to be so scared!!!

From time to time, someone appears in our lives who holds a special place in the culture of Alabama. Those of my generation have been blessed to have Kathryn Tucker Wyndham, a great Lady of the first order, and a true state treasure. It is perhaps fitting that one finds it near impossible to place Mrs. Wyndham in a niche. She is a historian, to be sure, but she is more than that, as is evidenced by "13 Alabama Ghosts And Jeffrey", as well as her numerous other works. Long popular in Alabama, "13 Alabama Ghosts" can be enjoyed by a broad spectrum of readers, both within and without Alabama. Her skills as a writer are equally matched by her rare talent as a raconteur. Mrs. Wyndham is one of the very few authors who makes herself so accessible to the public that she literally emobodies the written works she has produced. Anyone who has ever attended the annual "Pilgrimage" in Selma can attest to Mrs. Wyndham's abilities to hold an audience in rapt attention to her tales of ghosts and such. This book is a must for those interested in a taste of a unique slice of Alabama culture, by the foremost practioner of the art. Mrs. Wyndham has produced a delightful book, one which is a significant contribution to the body of works of Alabama history. Accordingly, this reviewer highly recommends this book - as well as all of Mrs. Wyndham's books - for readers of all ages and interests.

I first read 13 Alabama Ghosts as a elementary school student in Alabama. In the twenty years since then, I have re-read it numerous times. The stories stay with you and provide an interesting and alternative look at Alabama's history. Since the stories involve local ghosts or haunted places, it is possible to visit these locations yourself, which makes the book all the more interesting. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in ghosts and Alabama history.

It's the best book I ever read, seriously. I liked the funny part about when Kirk said that Abbie was his girlfriend. It was kind of creepy in some parts. I loved the way it ended.(don't want to give it away).I'm 8 years old.

I liked "Abbie, Girl Spy" because unlike most mystery books Abbie seemed more like a friend next door than a character in a book. Mr. Butler really made the people in the story come alive. I plan to read the next one as soon as it is available.

My daughter is hooked on every title in this series, and this was not an exception. She encouraged me to read it, and I too appreciated how well this was written. We follow the clever Abbie's every step as she moves closer to solving the case.

As a child and young adult, I was taught to have great respect for Mr. Truman. Among the things he was praised for was his plain-speaking manner and the fact that he told it as it was, with no sugar coating. I never really understood what that meant until I read this book. The Harry Truman that comes across here is a person you could easily image as your next-door neighbor. He always gives it to you in a no-nonsense, down-to-earth way that anybody can understand the first time.

That having been said I just want to voice two criticisms. First, I think Mr. Truman's understanding of history might be a little too "black and white". For example, he states that after WWI, the allied powers didn't really go to hard on Germany in terms of making the Germans pay reparations. I think just the opposite is true. The allied powers at Versailles imposed very hard terms on the Germans. Mr. Truman was correct in stating that the allies never entered German soil, however, the severity of the peace terms combined with the fact that the Germans never saw an enemy soldier sowed the seeds for Hitler's preaching that the Germans were stabbed in the back. I'm just saying that perhaps Mr. Truman's historical understanding was not as sophisticated as me might think.

Second, it seems that Mr. Truman's dislike of Mr. Eisenhower finds it's way onto virtually every page of the book. No matter who or what he's talking about, he seems to find a way to turn the subject into a criticism of Ike. I guess he really didn't like him too much.

All that having been said, I think this is great book.

This book does something very rare--it actually reveals the plain-spoken nature of Harry S. Truman while still demonstrating the depth and breadth of Truman's knowledge of history, politics, economics, and foreign affairs. It was really amazing to me that an essentially "self-taught" man was so brilliant with such a deep understanding of a vast array of issues. Unlike our current president, Harry S. Truman understood the complexities of international relations and implications of taking unilateral approaches in our foreign policy.

Truman also recognized that military action was something to be used as a LAST resort, especially when the rest of the world is against such an action. Although Truman had an appreciation for some military experience in public servants, he also recognized the danger of career military men in those positions. Unlike politicians of today, Truman was bold enough to make the unpopular decision to fire General McArthur because our foreign policy should not be predicated on our ability to anhilate every other country on the face of the earth.

This book is absolutely essential for the student of Harry S. Truman in particular, as well as for the student of History in general. Truman goes through all the important historical phases of our country and makes the information really breathe. In this age of political sophistry, it's very refreshing to hear a politician just being himself. It's interesting that Truman was vilified in his day. Perhaps he told it too much like it was for ears of that time. Nonetheless, this is a book that can be read again and again. This and Merle Miller's book should be in every Truman admirer's library.

This book really showed me the insite on a young bastardized Princess' life. I act in a Renaissance Faire and auitioned for the part of Lady Elizabeth at age 15 and got it. This book really helped me out on how her attitude on life was. It was a wonderfully written book that deserves more credit than it got. I don't recommend this book for young readers, it can be quite complicated at times. After reading this book you will certainly realize that Elizabeth was a truly amazing Princess, Lady and Queen.

I found this to be a wonderful, colorful, imaginative book. The plot was terrific and the characters very well evolved. It gave a thrilling account of the famous Queen Elizabeth's life as a young girl. I would advise it for ages 10 and over.

One of the best-written and most evocative historical novels ever. I first read this when I was twelve, and it is still one of my favorite books. Due to this book, I conceived a passionate admiration for Elizabeth I which I've never lost, as well as an interest in English history that's provided years of fascinating research. (I also fell madly in love with the Lord High Admiral, but that's another story....)
