Great Author!
This is the third book by Arnold S. Goldstein I have purchased. This book is labeled EZ for a reason, the content is very easy to understand. I would recommend his older book The Guarenteed Credit guide also as it has a little more indepth content.

A Good Weekend Read
This is a great book if you are looking for a very general background as to what American authorities deem to be money laundering. The book has some interesting recounts of some of the methods deployed by former narcotic syndicates and how they attempted to launder their many millions of illict proceeds. (Beware; most of the examples of former schemes deployed (ie the Andonian Brothers-La Mina) are well dated, pre-FINCEN and internet self-banking). In sum, the book discusses everything from a broad overview of the bank secrecy act, other revelant U.S.C. statutory provisions with respect to money laundering, specific form documents (ie CTRs,), and the use of foreign exchanges(legal and black market) to launder illict narco proceeds. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the money laundering aspect of the illict drug business. However, if its current money laundering issues and techniques you seek, you maybe a little disappointed.

Exchange Rate Misalignment: Concepts and Measurement for Developing Countries
Published in Hardcover by World Bank (1999)
Authors: Lawrence E. Hinkle and Peter J. Montiel
Amazon base price: $65.00
Used price: $14.99

A mini-library of exchange rate issues
Hinkle and Montiel have written a very good book. The book is very comprehensive and detailed. Understanding exchange rate issues is not an easy task, but dealing with exchange rate issues in developing countries is more daunting. In this connection, the authors do a very good job in trying to explain the various concepts of exchange rate misalignment in these emerging countries. One particular important aspect of the book is that it lays before the reader the various methodological approaches to measuring exchange rate misalignment in developing countries, and thus makes it easier for the reader to compare the relative merits and demerits of each methodology. In this wise, the reader is saved the trouble and time of having to glean through a slew of literature (very large indeed) in this subject area. The books thus becomes a mini-library of exchange rate related issues in developing countries. The book couldn't have come out in a more opportune time than this when issues of exchange rate crises in developing countries have assumed a center stage in international finance. It is a very good book for graduates students and other researchers interested in exchange rates issues in developing countries.

Ignore the off-putting title
Despite the rather offputting title, this book is actually pretty good and informative. It doesn't contain pictures, but it does take a rather unique approach from a parents perspective covering things such as managing expenses that seems very useful and could save lots of hassle and mistakes. Covers a wide range of topics and contains lots of information.

Portland's First Industrious Years
MacColl obviously thoroughly researched this precise and coherent political and economic history of Portland. He is the first historian to have uncovered some of Portland's less then glorious accomplishments and explain the interworkings of a very young Rose City. I have some disagreements with MacColl on specific facts, but they are relatively minor. I hope another historian delves in with a different view on Portland during its industrious beginnings to complement what MacColl so ably began.

Fiora delves into Fiddler's violent world.
Fiora's desire for a partnership with her ex-husband and current lover, Fiddler, finds the couple fighting to save a friend's bank and her son from being destroyed by the federal police agencies. Fiddler is helping to protect a Columbian familiy reluctantly involved with a dangerous drug cartel representative and his right-hand man.

Another delightful entry in this mystery series. Maxwell's characterizations are magnificent, showing people (and dogs, too) as three dimensional individuals with good and bad aspects.

Learning About Money . . . The Hard Way
When I was about five years old, my mother got tired of my complaining about the food she bought for our family. She told me that I would pick out the food for one week, and we would eat whatever I bought. We would use our normal grocery budget. Wow! Was I excited! The basket was soon filled with Cokes, candy, sugared cereal, cookies and potato chips. Naturally, there was no meat, fruit, or vegetables. I was asked if I was sure that's what I wanted. Yup! Well, it was heaven for about three days. Then, we started to run out of food. And I got tired of all of the junk food. My mother took pity on me and made some things out of staples at home. At the end of the week, she asked me if I wanted to to do the shopping for the next week. No way! I told her I would be glad to eat whatever she bought.

That experience is a mini-lesson of the sort that Dr. Whitcomb feels that each child should have beginning between ages 10 and 13, depending on the child. Dr. Whitcomb learned the benefits of making money mistakes for himself while he was a boarding student. He was given the money to pay all of his expenses. If he ran out, that was his tough luck! His parents before him had had the same lesson applied in the same way.

Most young people eventually start to have these experiences when they live away from home, whether for boarding school, college, or moving away to take a job in another area. Dr. Whitcomb points out that learning the lessons earlier and on a smaller scale is a good idea.

The book is built around the idea of establishing a budget for something your child needs to pay for, then giving the money to your child, and learning from the school of hard knocks. He has an elaborate set of contracts, ATM account rules, and tracking mechanisms for making this practical. He suggests picking out an approach that works for you and your child. The book has lots of good advice for how to handle the inevitable crash landings.

We did something similar to this with our children, and they soon learned to live on the funds they had . . . or to earn some more. They became ingenious at saving money, and finding better ways to earn it. One child, who had been profligate before it became that child's money, totally turned around. So I think the theory works.

I would advise starting earlier than he suggests here. Children can take on responsibility for buying family presents much younger than was described in the book. And you don't need an ATM account to do it. When the age is reached to buy one's own lunches, that's another opportunity to install this approach . . . with a fixed weekly allowance. Chores can be used to generate income for "extras" and that helps other lessons be learned.

I also suggest starting with investing younger than is indicated here. I started doing that when I was 12 and greatly benefited from that early exposure.

I think you will enjoy the book, although I don't think you will follow it exactly.

The best part for me was in the sections for helping children learn lessons from their experiences.

Where else would advance practice make a good difference? Be sure your child has that practice.

Assume that people can learn by doing better than any other way!

Timeless marketing principles
In Multiple Streams of Internet Income, Bob Allen takes basic marketing principles and applies them to today's turbulent economy. According to Mr. Allen whether making money on the internet or selling soap by direct mail, the principles are the same: you have to have a unique selling proposition. You need to show the customer a distinct advantage for buying your product, make a sensational offer, and have a powerful promise. So, yes, this book will help you make money on the internet, and lots of it. It will also help you make money no matter what your business endeavor.

Allen Explains How-To...It's Up to You to Do It
Allen's previous books have earned for him a reputation for creative thinking about how to increase personal net worth. I think this is his best book thus far. Throughout 16 thought-provoking and informative chapters, he carefully explains how "ordinary people [can] make extraordinary money online." He cites Jay Abraham's "timeless principles of marketing": increase the number of customers, increase the amount of the order, and increase the frequency of support. Given these three, Allen asks his reader to consider "Three Important Questions":

1. Who is your target audience?

2. What do they want?

3. How can you motivate this audience to act now?

The Internet makes it possible for almost anyone to generate substantial income IF these three questions are correctly answered and then a creative and aggressive marketing program is implemented, driven by strategies which are guided and informed by Abraham's "timeless principles." Throughout the book, Allen identifies and then examines a multiple of "streams" to consider. He asserts that marketing success online has three "bedrock principles":

1. Find a school of hungry fish.

2. Discover the bait they're biting on.

3. Supercharge your bait with a powerful USP (i.e. Ultimate advantage, Sensational offer, and Powerful promise).

Metaphorically, Allen really does help his reader to select among the various "streams", locate the "hungry fish", decide which "bait" to use, and then maximize its appeal. In practical terms, in a single volume, Allen provides about as much information and as much advice as almost any individual could possibly need to generate income online. It remains for each reader to combine appropriate information with appropriate advice, formulate her or his own game plan, and then GET TO WORK.

What gives this book even greater potential value is that all of the same information and advice can also be helpful to small-to-midsize companies about to become involved (or which are already involved) in e-business. Those who share my high regard for this book are then urged to check out The E-Commerce Question-and-Answer Book and FutureConsumer.com.

A MUST HAVE Book for Internet Entrepreneur Wantabees
Bob Allen has done it again to create a blueprint for generating millions of dollars. He goes beyond being a master of influence, he is a wizard of influence! Don't read it if you're not ready to transform your business and life, right now. Once your mind is expanded by his ideas, it will never go back to its original shape. I know this from personal experience that started 5 years ago with his Multiple Streams of Income book and tapes. Specific, defined ways to make money on the Internet SCREAM from almost every page of Multiple Streams of Internet Income.

In this one 279 page book he includes just about all of the best and most current Internet marketing advice you need to make millions. Not only did I learn about the inside specifics of how the Internet works with search engines, how to make affiliate programs really work for me, how and why to set up joint ventures and how to advertise. I learned what triggers an automatic buy response, what words to use, what offers to make, when to make the offers, how to take any information idea and make money with it. I use these ideas in my new web marketing business, to create money making affordable web sites for small businesses as well as set up joint ventures with other business leaders. I have Bob to thank for every bit of money I make now, he teaches it all to us. We just have to use what we learn. It's hard not to make money if we are breathing and doing.
