New book for the cycling historian
Review from Jeff Jones of cyclingnews dot com

Written by La Voix du Nord journalist Laurent Watiez, "Day of glory or Day of Pain" is a 120 page collection of stories from 20 legends of cycling. Riders featured include Rik Van Steenbergen, André Darrigade, Rik Van Looy, Raymond Poulidor, Eddy Merckx, Jan Janssen, Gianni Motta, Roger De Vlaeminck, Bernard Hinault, Stephen Roche and Sean Kelly. Each rider recounts a particular anecdote from one or two of their most memorable races, describing the joy of winning, and/or the pain of defeat. The stories are often amusing and provide an interesting insight into the world of professional cycling over the years.

For example, there is the story of Raymond Poulidor winning a track race in Spain - without actually riding it. Poulidor didn't like riding on the track because it made him dizzy, so he refused to start. The organiser could not convince him to go out, but came up with a way around it. He found a Spanish track rider who looked like Poulidor, who then proceeded to go out and win the races and it was a great success. Poulidor even got his start money!

The book has been published in French and Dutch, but has now been translated into English. It's illustrated with some fantastic black and white photos, including a memorable one of Rudi Altig putting Jan Janssen and Eddy Merckx in difficulty during the 1967 Paris-Roubaix.

This book was outstanding in my own mind. There was just not anything that turned me off and made put the book down. Yes, this is science fiction and actually loved it, because the characters were described so well. A person may feel as if they really knew or felt that they may be somewhat alike. I personally do not like science fiction but as much as I enjoyed this, I may just change and widen my reading variety. Considering some fairly difficult words I always stuck with and just tried to understand it. Kotzwinkle has put forth an extraudinary piece of literature and should be recommended for interested readers. To be honest with you this book is not easy and is a little long but in the end I promise that you will be feeling something. This has love, tragedy, and is quite suspensful. It is a wonderful book, and I personally recommend to everyone. joe gainer

Innovative and an intelectual challenge
The book is an interesting compilation of essays on financial innovation and the convergence of markets. It takes the reader through diverse structures and strategies to take advantage of capital and insurance markets, and shows the benefits of globalization and disintermediation. I found it very useful for practitioners in finance and risk management and for academics.

BETTER THAN THE LATEST PATRICIA CORNWELL!!!!
This is a brilliant first crime novel and I am surprised it has received so little attention. According to the inside writing, it was originally under contract with an Australian publisher, but that obviously fell through. It reminds me of early Cornwells, when she used to write them so well. The lead character Helen Santos is believeable as a crime-scene investigator and the forensic research in this book is nothing far from amazing -- it's blended brilliantly with the story line. But the big surprise is the ending, which I won't give away. This is more than a crime book, but a tense psychological thriller which makes you think how well you really know the people you think you know. BUY IT NOW! BRILLIANT AND A PAGE-TURNER!

A vital part of critical theory
The relationship of Frederick Nietzsche's philosophy to Sigmund Freud's psychiatric concepts has long been an object of interest for students and practitioners of psychoanalysis. In Freud And Nietzsche, educator, historian and philosopher Paul-Laurent Assoun methodically reconstructs Freud's encounter with Nietzsche, his personal interpretations and the contribution of Nietzsche's champions. Assoun articulately examines the thematic similarities that appear on the surface to reveal close affinities between the two theorists. The analogies between the theories and writings of these two influential and original thinkers are fascinating, informative, and a vital part of critical theory which continues to be actively discussed in regard to critical theory to this very day. Ably translated into English by Richard L. Collier. Jr., Paul-Laurent Assoun's Freud And Nietzsche is a significant and highly recommended contribution to the study of Freud, Nietzsche, and psychoanalysis.

:: Guidelines to fulfillment ::
"Keeping your kids in touch with God" is a information filled book written by Robert Laurent for parents and anyone working with youth. The author discusses many of the reasons children turn away from the church, and suggests ways to prevent this. Some of the topics include, self-esteem, peer influence, the media, parental relationships, and lack of family harmony. Many of the topics have application guidlines which could be used in non-Christian homes, making it a book useful for all families. I love the way Laurent designed the book. Using questionnaires and other research, he goes inside what teenagers today are feeling to give readers a kid's perspective of the big picture. The big picture being, why kids turn from God. This book is a very practical one. Each chapter ends with some suggestions as to how we can build our children up and towards God. The book is easy to read, using very down to earth, day-to-day examples of family life. I would recommend this book to any person who will be in contact with children whether in a family, in ministry, or in any potential relationship building environment. It gives sound advice on how to walk along side your kids and guide them towards a fulfilling lifestyle.

favorite of my american kids and their eurocentric parents
This is a book I loved when I was a child (in the 60's) and that I am now reading to my children. I love it for the old-fashioned 'french'iness (Babar drives an old citroen car, dinner is a mandatory family affair - even if a kid has fallen asleep beforehand etc). But my children (4 and 8) also love it, like the story line and always find something else to see and point out in the illustrations. (this review refers to the French edition)(Highschool french is sufficient though to translate on the spot)
