Native literatures from around the world have enjoyed a surge of popularity in the past few decades, and this volume is a good example of why that is so. The Aboriginal song poems have been ably translated, but the editors decided to have the poems in their original languages facing the English versions. This adds much to the feel of a foreign, exotic literature. Explanatory notes are placed with the original versions, causing some difficulty in switching from page to page reading the translation and then the explanation (the meanings of passages are not always clear from the translation). The selections cover four distinct literary traditions within Aboriginal Australia, from varying geographical locales. This allows the reader to appreciate the wide variation in Aboriginal culture.

This book provides a good fundamentals on learning the movement of water and chemicals in water. The different conepts in applying models for a specific study can be judged using this book.

I ordered this book because i needed help understanding the calculations for the IHIT exam. since i did not know a lot of the calculations, and didnt want to waste the time trying to find all the information, i bought this book. the book spells out what each letter and number stands for. its very easy to read and the layout of the book is not confusing. The book also gives some background information. The book is bound with a plastic spiral and a some-what plastic cover. I found this a little awkward. Over all the information is great and it must have taken some time to put it together, but i think the price is a little high. But i guess you pay that for the convenience.

In my studies of Ulysses, The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, and Dubliners, I found this book to be an extremely handy reference guide. Adams covers thematic concerns, allusions and motivations of Joyce. These brief discussion on each of the works of Joyce include enough information to set the reader in the same direction. Yet, at the same time, Adams keeps each section short enough so that it is manageable for the reader to consult as a quick reference tool. For example, the section on Ulysses is only 45 pages long. It is too bad this book is out of print; something should be done to get it reprinted. This book would be an excellent guide for anyone studying Joyce.

As an attorney teaching an entertainment law course to undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame, I've found this text book to be very useful. Not only does it address and examine legal issues that face entertainment industry persons, it examines *how* the entertainment industries actually work. The vast majority of my students have found this book to be useful and worthwhile.

This is a very interesting book. You're thrown into the story from the first letter and are really not given much background information on who Martin is writing to. What we get instead is an interesting tour through aspects of medieval life. It is told through the viewpoint of Martin, an illustrator and former monk. Martin describes various aspects of his daily life, a trip to a quarry, intrigues at an unnamed medieval court and his early life in a very strange monastery. Martin is a gay man and we do see that aspect of his life but it isn't the dominant focus of the story. If you like a different view told in an authentically medieval voice, this is it.

I don't quite understand this spooky Halloween book, but my 5-year old loves it. He insisted he was going to get it from the library every week for the rest of his life until I suggested buying it. It has added the words "stupefied," "albatross," and "foolies" to his working vocabulary. The story is a little confusing but it's got a good Halloween spirit and look to it.

When I started out to write a paper on semantics, my professor advised me to use this book as a guideline for defining the exact subject on my paper and for becoming more familiar with the vast field of philosophy of language. Since I had already followed a course on philosophy of language, Robert M. Martin's book did not tell me much that I did not know yet. But for students just starting out in the field, the book gives a wealth of very clear information. Martin covers all aspects of the philosophy of language and the logic of language in short and accesible chapters. He gives a lot of good examples, which make often difficult theories a lot more clear. For me, as a more advanced student, the references at the end of each chapter were very helpful: Martin refers to a number of books on each specific subject, and I must say they are really good. Using the references on Speech Acts I found some essential articles that went on to form the base of my paper. In his Amazon.com-interview, Martin states he hates the boring way most academic philosophy is written in. I do not totally agree on that, but I do admit that Martin does NOT write boring or vague, and that makes his book all the better.

When looking at the PLOPD serie, it become obvious that material become more and more mature. We'll find in this book good design patterns we can directly apply in our everyday work. Yo will probably found that all patterns are not usefull, but only a subset, but it's however an enough reason to buy this book.

Robert Menzies was a conservative Australian politician who served as Prime Minister from 1939 to 1941 when he surpringly resigned. At this time the Australian Labour party won office and dominated politics for the next eight years. Menzies built up a new party to regain power which he called the Liberal Party. He also developed an ideology to appeal to the forgoten people. That is he positioned his conservative party to appeal to the middle class rather than having it to closely aligned with big business.

Volume one of this biography concerns his early years and his career up to 1941. He was born in a country town and came from a poor family. He was able to get a university eduction and became a succesful lawyer and state politician before moving to the federal sphere. He did not serve in the first world war although his brothers did.

The book is actually by an author who has more sympathy with the labour side of politics rather than the conservative. Never the less it is a reasonable portrait of the man and also the period. One of the better Australian political biographies.
