Pothier wrote before "legal science" became de rigeur on the Continent. Hence his treatise is of some value to Common Law attorneys studying the contract law in the Civil Law tradition, since his approach is more easily digestible than otherwise would be the case.

The book was originally written in French but was transalted by Evans (1805) and others and was popular in America and very influential in international contract law. (Pothier is pronounced "poh tee ay.") Pothier was a major inspiration for the 1804-date French Civil Code. The material in the book suplements Corbin and Williston and the Restatement (Second) of Contracts.

Great book, mostly... good pictures, accurate reporting, excellent layout, fun writing. My only criticism is that he *really* skimped on details on the V8 models, particularly the original V8 Vantage -- one of Aston's most important cars ever. Still, definitely worth buying.

I'd never heard of Robert Andrews before and bought the book at a bookseller's going-out-of-business sale. But I could tell in the crafting of the story that Andrews has had some experience writing somewhere. I like this genre, being a Clancy, Forsyth, and thriller enthusiast. And I write in this style myself. I have respect for Mr. Andrews' talents, and his experience, as perused from the jacket bio. And I thought he did a pretty good job, overall, writing a novel with a black main character considering he (Mr. Andrews) is white. I also think it's noteworthy and perhaps something of a marvel that a former CIA agent and Green Beret (the author, Mr. Andrews) would have a political view this liberal. The story seemed a little trite regarding plot (black CIA agent discovers questionable FBI activities from long ago in old files and enlists former (white) CIA agent, now a wasted alcoholic, to help him unravel it). But it worked for me because I am 100 percent pro African American, and I think Martin Luther King was one of the most courageous and exemplary Americans ever. The main complaint I have of this book is not limited to just this one--it has to do with a gripe I have regarding all historical fiction. Where does fact leave off and the author's story begin? Does Andrews know something about a conspiracy that he either can't document or can't publish as nonfiction? Maybe these questions can't be answered, or more likely, maybe these are just the kind of questions Mr. Andrews would have the reader ask.

This anthology of Delta Green short stories presents a good introduction to the conspiracy/horror concepts of the DG world. Some stories are better than others, and each tale has it's own merits, but the story by Arinn Dembo stands head and shoulders above the rest. The story, a DG-flavored explanation of the life and times of a rockstar who closely resembles Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, is truly fantastic in my opinion. I'm probably a bigger fan of the story because of the unsolved mystery of Cobain's death, but it's well-written and sucks you in with a mixture of present-time and flashback sequences. I recommend the book as both an introduction to DG, and as a source of fresh new historical fiction authors.

This little tidbit from Justin Kaplan illustrates the utility of this fine collection. The book is a fantastic read, as well as a useful resource; reading it as you would any other book is the only way really to determine which quotes are your favorites and which you someday intend to use.

The table of contents has a very comprehensive list of subject areas, sometimes very esoteric, ranging from "Ephemeral," "Self-Made," "Loyalty" and "Intelligence" to "Slogans," "Taxation," and "Wall Street." The subjects are not internally cross-referenced, but there is comprehensive index of cross-topics at the end, as well as an excellent bibliography and index of names.

What struck me most about this book is just how many of these quotations could be easily interpreted or construed as offensive and/or insulting. There is very little context provided to most of these quotes (although the citations are quite scrupulous), so it is difficult to determine the actual situations in which many of these quotations were born. The responsibility lies with the user to determine the audience and all possibilities affecting how the quote might be received.

All in all, this is a fine addition to your private library--your company's library too--and a very useful resource for those looking for an intelligent way to convince, motivate, influence, or any other action conducted daily by a leader/manager.

This book writen by Gilbert and Martin provides an excellent help to the student who is currently studying organic chemistry. It is full of useful information and it provides assistance for the completion of the organic labs. it is full of helpful pointers and they provide alot of useful knowledge

I am very happy to have this book in my garden and plant material library. That said, I am left wanting more.

A Garden of Conifers by Robert Obrizok offers good basic descriptions of and cultural requirements for a dozen or so species of conifers. It is an excellent introduction for the novice.

For the more seasoned plantsperson, its greatest value lies in the 63 page checklist with black silhouette images of a fairly comprehensive group of the cultivars, varieties and forms of his selected list, indicating the plant's general shape. Each has a brief discription. If only he had included a picture for each (admittedly an enormous if not impossible task)and a bit more descriptive information ... The anticipated size of the each plant listed in 5, 10 and 20 years would have been very useful. Still, I'm glad to have it.

This book is a piece of academic research, and at times it is hard to follow if you do not have the scientific background necessary. However, there are sections in this book more entertaining that network TV. When you read about the disagreements, battles, breakups, infidelities and romances that take place in a community of Greylag geese, you'd think you are reading a script for a new daytime soap opera. Konrad Lorenz could have easily moonlighted as a Hollywood writer. In addition to the hilarious antics of the geese, I finished the book with certainly more knowledge than before, and with a sense of admiration for these animals and the humans who painstakingly observed them.
