This One's a Keeper!
This book's appeal lies chiefly with Daniel's obsession with dinosaurs. He lives in his imagination, seeing dinosaurs everywhere he goes and in everything he does. It brought back memories to me of being a young child living in a fantasy world, and being so wrapped up in it that it seemed very real. My son, Jack, loves this book and we've checked it out at the library again and again. Now we want our own! This book is fun for kids to hear and for parents to read.

The Book Mum Wrote About Me.
I was very surprised indeed when I found my mothers book, at.... Of course I am a tad bias towards the book, but Ihonestly believe it is a spectacular book. It is special to me as it was I who inspired her to write the story. It is brought to life brilliantly with the precise illustrations by renound illustrater (renound in New Zealand) Martin Baynton. If your child or yourself likes Dinosaurs then this is the book for them/you.

Magnificent obsession
Perfectly captures the obsessions youngsters can develop! Daniel lives and breathes dinosaurs, and sees them everywhere - at the supermarket, directing traffic, his teacher. That is, until the day his mother takes him to the aquarium, where he looks at the sharks ....for a very long time!

Absolutely delightful and lovely illustrations.

Sure to amuse the younger dino afficianados.

A little boy invites his friends to his birthday party.
This book follows the format of the rest of the Barron's seriesby showing 1-2 sentences per page in both English and Spanish. Fornon-Spanish speakers there is a nice pronunciation guide for each word at the back of the book. Children as young as two will enjoy the universal appeal of a birthday party with balloons, cake and presents.

Great Book For Teaching Toddlers
I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to teach French to a young child. The storyline could easily hold up as a regular storybook and the illustrations are great.

I do find that the pronunciation guide would be a bit difficult for a non-French speaker to use and recommend this only if you have a bit of French yourself or access to someone who can help with pronunciation.

A Wonderful Book!
My toddler loves this book and so do I. The illustrations are beautiful and the general quality of this hardbound book is very high. The story is appealing to my daughter and the ability to read it both in French and in English has really helped her pick up some words in a non-formal way. This book makes a great bedtime story.

The Monkey Shines
Grief . . . comforting friends . . . food . . . threatening enemy . . . victory . . . happiness. What more could you want in a book? Well actually, there is more. You can read it, look at Alex de Wolf's clever pictures, listen to it on tape, and learn French -- all at the same time. Mary Risk, as usual, has not been satisfied just to "feed" the reader French - she has created an engaging story that my 4-year-old listens to and "reads" over and over.

Fun, colorful, great for new vocabulary.
I teach French to elementary school children and they loved this book. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. And the story is entertaining enough for them to catch up on new vocabulary. The book itself is excellent quality as well.

A wonderful book
What a great way to learn another language! My son loves the pictures, and we tirelessly read it over and over again in both French and English. The pronunciation guide is very helpful. I wish they offered this book in several more languages.

A suspenseful, moving thriller
This book was read in four days, I absolutely devoured it! I found it extremely moving at times and also quite terrifying at others. It is soberly written, unsentimental in its portrayal of human relationships and Mary is an unforgettable character in all her devotion, humility and pride. All that lacked, perhaps, was a deeper description of Mary`s relationship with Edward Hyde. In that aspect, the movie beats the novel.

Plenty to please with
This is a first of Mary Reilly's that I've read and if she has more, I definitely want to read it. This is the first "tour de force" novel that I've gotten my hands on and I'm very happy that it built its story around such a cannonical text: Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Going along with what literary critics of intertextual texts opine, I did feel very "smart" knowing generally what the storyline was, even while being exposed to the fresh perspective of a marginalized character: Mary. The thematic use of verbal irony really made the novel interesting when she would refer to Hyde not knowing that he is part of Jekyll. I did feel that the book is a long read, even though it is a fairly clear and easy one. I would recommend this novel to those who enjoy Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde because, just as the title suggests, it offers another looks at our infamous Jekyll and Hyde tale, and it does a VERY good job of it. If you're big on intertextual texts, this is a must-read. One cannot say that this is an "original" text, simply because it somewhat leaches off of the J&H tale, but what text it really "original" anyhow? I did like the book even if it was assigned reading. It was a pretty good pleasure read. I especially liked how the novel was "adjusted" for the comtemporary reader, with the supplementary storyline of Mary's relationship with her father as one who also consumes a "drink." The afterword (whoever wrote it) was a nice touch.

Wonderful, Chilling, and Suspenseful Book!
'Mary Reilly' is a truly well-written novel. It is always consistent with the original Robert Louis Stevenson novella, and yet it offers an exciting new twist to the old tale. Though it seems impossible for there to be mystery in a story which we have all heard countless times, the reader still finds himself on the edge of his seat, wondering what will happen next. Valerie Martin makes you feel as though you ARE Mary, as though you're witnessing the transformation of Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde firsthand. It is an incredible book, and a Must-Read for all Jekyll & Hyde fans.

Mary Anne and the Playground Fight (Baby-Sitters Club, 120)

REALLY GREAT
This book was quite good, the baby sitter's are fighting but you cannot always be perfect! Everything turns out great in the end as usual-still a good read!

The Best Mary-Anne Book!
Mary-Anne was one of the more appealing characters. I like the way she finally stood up to bossy, big mouthed Kristy and challenged Kristy on traveling abroad if she was planning to take a playground job in Stoneybrook. Armed camps square off -- it's Abby, Stacey and Kristy vs. Claudia and Mary-Anne. Don't worry, folks, it all gets sorted out in the end. Kristy in typical fashion runs off at the mouth and insults everybody. By the penultimate chapter, apologies are abound and the story is neatly concluded with everyone being friends again. (And yes, Abby, Stacey and Kristy DO travel abroad while the others remain stateside). A light, entertaining read.

Intriguing view on competition...
Mary Anne, who hates confrontation, is embroiled in a heated arguement over playground jobs. In the part where Kristy is arguing and tells Mary Anne to butt out, Logan shouldn't have butted in and snapped at Kristy. Mary Anne doesn't need Logan to fight her battles. If I were Mary Anne, I would have told him to butt out! Of course, Mary Anne's too polite for that, but I bet she was seething inside. It was good, though, that the BSC didn't let the arguement destroy their friendship and each one took responsibility for her part in the fight. That's why the BSC have a friendship that will last forever and ever...and a lifetime.

Let's Review: Global History and Geography (Barron's Review
I am a 10th grade World History teacher in California. This book is the best resource I own. It not only helps the students, but allows me the chance to review prior to lectures and activities. It is must for any world history or global history student or teacher.

OH MY GOD THIS BOOK HELPS!!!!
Like many high school New Yorkers, I was super-worried about doing well on my Regents exam. But thanks to Mr. Mark Willner's book, I not only passed, I excelled! I was so satisfied, I told everyone to use it. If you are taking a Global Regent, get this book. This, in addition to your Global History class, will definately assure your success. Mr. Willner's thorough analysis and explanation in crucial areas in the subject is comprehensive and thorough. He is the Social Studies chairman at my school and was named best in the country, so he must have done something right! Get this book, you'll be glad you did.

GREAT STUDY TOOL!
I graduated from High School in NYC and there you must pass this regents in order to graduate. Well, I've always liked History, but taking such a hard test is another story. This book is great help for those who need to study for this test, since is not easy to remember all that things they taught us in two years (at least that's how it is in NY). Well, with the help of this book and my History teacher I was able to get a good score and pass the regents all at once! Thanks Barron's and Thanks Ms. Gasparevich!

A Book I can Relate to
this book is about Mary Anne's friend who died. Just over summer break, my best friend and english partner, Judy, died in a car accident. This book relates to me and is written very carefully. sad.

one of the saddest BSC stories
In this book Mary Anne starts getting real close to a girl named Amelia when they work on a project together. Amelia and the other kids working on the project come over Mary Anne's house to work. Later that night Amelia and her family are on their way out to eat and they are hit by a drunk driver and Amelia is killed dead. Everyone is grief-stricken and goes to Amelia's funeral. Mary Anne finds a special way to keep Amelia forever in their memory. This was too sad for me because I like a happy book better but I am sure a lot of people would love it a lot.

One of the Saddest books I ever read
This book is about when Mary Anne and her English group work on a project. So then everybody thinks of a good idea to write an old-fashioned newspaper from Shakespeare's time. A girl in Mary Anne's group named Amelia Freeman told everybody she was going out to eat with her mother, father, and brother. She said she knew this project would be an easy A+. She told them how she wished she could bring them along.
The next day it was announced that Amelia had been killed in a car accident. Luckilly, the rest of her family was in the hospital and would be fine. Mary Anne was so upset that she needed to talk to a Psycayatrist. But what she told the Psychiatrist made me think. This is what she said, "As she was about to go home she said she wanted to bring us along. So if I was in her car then, I might have been dead now if I were with her."
I recomend this book for people who just lost a loved one.

A Fun Read
This book is one of my top 5 favorite BSC books. It has a great amount of mystery and suspence. If you are interested in low-key witchcraft this is the BSC book for you!

"bad luck mystery?" don't let the boring title turn you off
...the earlier books in the series, say from 1 to about 20, are the funniest. they have a geniune, quirky humor that make them the most enjoyable to read. as the series went on, the humor wasn't there most of the time. and when it was, it seemed really different. i'm sure ann martin is still the author, though. she just wrote more realistically. this book, "mary ann and the bad luck mystery", is before the mystery series spin-off. it's very good. sometimes mary ann gets on my nerves for being so timid, but the things that happen in this book are a hoot. i love rereading it around halloween.

Whoooooooo
One of Ann's sort of fantasy books. I like the spooky set ups. pretty funny when Mary Anne crys. Why would any bad people send Mary Anne a bad luck charm? read this book to find out

I'm not spoiling anything, but it must be a person who hates Mary Anne, or her friends. Would it be involved with Mary Anne's boyfriend, Logan? Or is the sender jealous about the way Mary Anne's acting. You MUST read this book

Not what I had expected
After reading the other readers' reviews of this book I was expecting great things. However, I was dissappointed with the story line, which was merely a listing of a little girl's favorite stuffed toys, but even more dissapointed with the illustrations, which were simple at best. We will read it- but only because of the lack of truly great French materials for young children.

A New Favorite
I have been introducing French to my son since before he was born. He is now 18 months old and this story is one of his favorites (the other is 'I Want My Banana'). The artwork is simple and colorful and the rhythm of the English and French rolls easily off the tongue. I would also like to add that my son's English has not been hampered by a little foreign language here and there.

C'est magnifique!
My 6 year old was accepted into a French immersion kindergarten class, and these books have been extremely helpful. They reinforce the words he is learning in class and are easy for him to read in French or English, which allows him to boost his reading skills at the same time. The fact that it is in both languages helps me understand what he is reading, too.
