excellent daily devotional for young children
This book contains short, one-page devotionals designed with the young child in mind. The daily devotional begins with a Bible verse, continues with a short life lesson, and concludes with a suggested prayer. Older children that can read may begin the lesson by reading the Bible verse and all children will enjoy participating in the brief activity included in each day's life lesson.

Funny, yet poignant...
Amusing summer story, yet you kind of think, poor Mary Anne. She's helping set up Camp BSC, but so many things are going wrong for her & she's feeling down. When kind of tender, cute scene is when her dad goes on a business trip & as Mary Anne is kissing him goodbye, she realizes how much she'll miss him & almost starts to cry right there in the airport (which she's done when Dawn heads back west). She swallows mid-sentence just as she's telling her dad goodbye & is a little embarrassed at missing her dad. Sharon & Dawn try to cheer Mary Anne up by renting funny movies, but poor Mary Anne even feels more like crying! Then to complicate matters, she badly sprains her ankle! Miserable as she was feeling, I liked how she comforts one little girl at the camp who was having separtion anxiety from her mother. I like how Mary Anne doesn't wallow in self-pity, but reaches out to others even when she herself is going through a bad time & feeling miserable. Mary Anne is a such an intelligent, wonderful girl & this world needs more people like her.

A must read book!
First off, this is one of the best books in the BSC Series and it was so well written. Great job, Ms. Martin!

Since Mary Anne has been sitting for the Kuhn kids, she's noticed how much Jake misses his divorced dad. Mary Anne thinks jake needs a guy to hang around with...but she doesn't tell Mrs.Kuhn this. So Mary Anne invites Logan over to play with Jake while she's baby-sitting.

Everything's perfect--until one day Mrs. Kuhn comes home early and finds Logan there. It's just a misunderstandding, but all Mrs. Kuhn and Kristy see is that Mary Anne has broken the number one rule of baby-sitting. She's invited her boyfriend over. What will happen to the BSC when their other clients find out? Read this book to find out!

What a wonderful story of raw courage!
Excellent! A great book on overcoming fear. Mary Anne is filled with so many fears, including facing an emergency and also a fear of losing Logan because of his dad's hairbrained idea to send him to boarding school. Mary Anne learns that being brave isn't about never feeling scared, but feeling the fear and doing what you have to do anyway. I thought it was so beautiful they way she plunged into the pool to save the little boy from drowning, then cried and cried. I also thought it was great that she encouraged Logan and his mom to stand up to his dad. I think his dad's a control freak. I got the feeling he kind of looks down at Mary Anne and the fact that Logan babysits. There needs to be more books about girls as life-savers. It should be on all high school and middle school reading lists. A must-read for any girl who doubts herself.

Historical thriller
Mary MacDougall and her cousin are strong and likeable characters caught up in a plot that twists, turns and surprises readers till the last page. That alone would be enough reason to read "Mary MacDougall and the Gitchee Gumee Murders." The meticulously-researched historic setting makes the mystery even more fun to read. D.R. Martin seems to have done almost as much research as Herman Melville did for "Moby Dick." The difference is that D.R.Martin knows how to use only the most fascinating tidbits, whereas Melville(boringly) included everything he knew about whales and whaling. Steven King's success with e-stories prompted him to release more e-fiction. Perhaps hefty sales of this first Mary MacDougall mystery will move D.R. Martin to produce a sequel soon.

A brilliant collection of poetry and prose
Passionate and wild, this Home Brew Press publication features some of the best Midwestern poetry and prose being published anywhere. Editor Mary "Casey" Martin selects carefully and skillfully arranges her selections alongside some pristine images. Winter, wolves and love are the three themes celebrated, with the anthology's soaring words and brilliant illustrations (especially DeAnn De La Ronde's cover art) hammering home the concept. Especially affecting are poems by Edith Nash, Mark Scarborough, Jean Feraca and Martin herself, as well as a snippet of a biography of famed Wisconsin naturalist Frances Hamerstrom by Helen Corneli.

perfect for learning
This is perfect for children (or adults!) learning french. It uses repeatition and variation to teach several different simple sentence structures and useful vocabluary words. Cute pictures.
I thought the explainations on how to pronounce the words was great as I could comprehend what it was instructing. Certainly, it gets the beginning pupil close enough!
