Real Good Read!
I really enjoyed this story. It's a mystery, it's got some sci-fi, and it's definitely got some scary horror stuff. Anthony joins his good friend Miss Eells, the librarian, and her brother for a trip to her brothers old house on an island. When they get there, they find a mysterious room with a mysterious trunk. One day, they get inside the trunk, and it shoots them off to a whole other world in a whole other dimension, one where the people are trying to destroy the earth. Well, of course, Anthony figures out how to do the bad guys in and save the whole planet. This is a real good read.

A Great Book
I have never liked reading but this John Bellairs book, The Mansion in the Mist, kept me reading. I got hooked onto his books in 4th grade and ever since I have enjoyed his books. The Mansion in the Mist has a lot of discriptive words in it, sets the setting and gets off to a great start. All the way through the book he is consistant on good adjectives and is very interesting. I like his endings the most though because sometimes they are scary but in the end his makes sure everyone's O.K. I think John Bellairs is the best author!!

This book is the best book I have ever read
"I could ask Emerson yo invite you to come along, but I don't know if you'd be happy in his rickety old house on that godforsaken chilly lake," said Miss Eells to Anthony. Anthony is a thirteen year old boy in the mid-1950's. You will know more about Anthony and his friends in this suspensful thriller, The Mansion in the Mist, by John Bellairs. Anthony does decide to go to the old house with two of his friends, Emerson and Mis Eells. One night while Emerson and Miss Eells were out fishing, Anthony decides to explore the old house. When he walked into a dark room he notices a chest in the middle of the floor. He opened it up and accidently fell in. when he stepped out he was in a new world. He came to a mansion and saw evil through the window. They were planning to take over earth, but how? How will Anthony be able to save the people of Earth from the evil? i enjoyed this book because every chapter kept you wondering what will happen in the next chapter. If you ever read read any book by John Bellaris and liked it, or just like mystery and suspensful books you will love this book. What will happen to anthony and his friends at this house? You will just have to read it and find out!

WOW!
This is one of the most beautiful combinations of poetry and art. The poem is really quite beautiful. The art is inspirational. I don't knwo that I'd give it to a couple for their wedding though, cause the poem is about a man who is cheating on his wife....So don't take the advice of the other reviewer, the couple might look at you funny!

I'm Impressed
Just got this book and I love it. I purchased it based on reviews that I read and they are 100% correct. Beautiful pictures and a touching poem. Great as a wedding gift.

a beautiful marriage of words and Chagall
If you are a Chagall or e.e. cummings lover, this book is not to be missed. It is an absolute treasure and such a beautiful marriage of words and art! The images perfectly complement the text. Highly recommended, even as an introduction to either of these two artists.

Absolutely Mesmerizing!
Mr. Swift has painted a brilliant picture with this magnificent novel. It is an absolute indulgence of all the pleasures I didn't know words on a page could bring! It truly is a biography of the imagination. Don't be surprised if you find a bit of yourself in Miss Clarissa Spellbinder.

My Thoughts on Miss Spellbinder's Point of View
An imagination like no other I have ever read.

Miss Spellbinder's Point of View
Edward Swift has written a fabulous book.
He involves the reader and makes us believe each word.
Glorious reading!!

Masterpiece
This book is a gem, one of the best I've ever read. It's not sad: it's mostly a deep point of view about reality, but no space for sadness here. Ed Bunker is a really gifted writer, and I was stunned by his book: I found it as strong as any good piece of literature. So powerful, so vivid, so close to the truth. It's cruel, cynic, but so real: there's more truth in this book than in 1000 different ones. The author lets you analyze the nature of crime, without analyzing it for you, just telling a story. What a discovery.

Shocking
A crime-novel from a man who knows the inside of the criminal mind. This book is interesting both as a social study and as a suspense novel. Bunker does not keep his punches, and he writes with brutal honesty. The story of Max Dembo(the main character), is both exiting and sad, as Max tries to become a straight citizen, but soon realize that he is "born to loose". A great book, no matter how you look at it. This should be something they make the kids read in highschools.

FANTASTIC
This is an incredible book about criminals and their twisted philosophies. Bunker writes with brutal honesty. I found better psychological insights in these pages than a handful of sociologists could blabber out of their book training. This book came from the REAL DEAL! It doesn't glamorize anything-it just is what it is. Not to filibuster here, but with the ongoing debates about capital punishment and crime in general, this book should berequired reading for anyso-called "experts" on the subject. Bunker's words make a lot of sense and help you to understand a criminal's mind a little better.

Nortel Networks: A Beginner's Guide
Published in Digital by McGraw-Hill ()
Authors: James Edwards and Matthew S. Jensen
Amazon base price: $39.99
Average review score:

Great for beginners
As a new manager working with Nortel products, I have found this book quite useful. It is not necessary for me to be able to configure a router. I do need to have a general understanding of the technology and the products. This book has accomplished both of these requirements for me. I would recommend this book to any person looking to gain a clearer understanding of networking in general. Although it does cover Nortel products, it covers the technology in general, so this book would be valuable regardless of whose product is being used.

A must have for any library
I received my copy of this book less than a week ago, and I am very impressed with the way the book was presented. I work in a "Cisco shop", but this book has offered insight to some of the wonderful offerings that Nortel has. I have read some of the other beginners guides out there, and can honestly say that this book is the easiest to understand and to follow. There are many boring books out there, this is NOT one of them. I read it cover to cover and will do so again. I highly recommend this book for all networking professionals. A must have!

Outstanding basic building blocks to Nortel Networks.
Certainly one of the better beginners' guides out there. I was able to read most of it in one sitting. Found that the read was easy and less "mind numbing" than most computer/networking documents. I would recommend this guide to anyone that wants to get into networking, switches, & routers. Maybe you're just interested in understanding the fundamentals of Nortel networking or LAN/Wan technologies.... Get this book!

Still wonderful after all these years
I first owned this volume of poetry in 1978. That book simply fell apart after more than 20 years of reading and handling (sometimes roughly by my children). I replace this book with a new one just last year.
The old favorites are all here; Fireflies in the Garden, The Road Not Taken, Fire and Ice, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, and a hundred more. In my opinion this is the definitive volume on Frost.
I have always been awed by the number of poems Frost wrote about the stars. A Star on a Stoneboat, The Star Spitter, Stars, Canis Major and many others. Truly Robert Frost is the astronomers poet.
Also in this volume is perhaps my favorite Frost poem, Brown's Descent.
If you love reading Frost on a crispy fall evening, then you'll love reading him when the crickets chirp. You'll need to own this book.

The Poetry-Lover's Definitive Frost
Robert Frost was and is America's greatest poet. Excepting, perhaps, W. B. Yeats, he may be the greatest poet to write English in the twentieth century. (To me, it's a toss-up.) To read this volume systematically or desultorily is to become convinced of that. But Frost is, above all, accessible, so the casual reader may not appreciate the difficulty of what he does. Like much of the greatest art his looks easy, even inevitable.

All of Frost's poems are here, plus his two dramatic Masques. When this book first appeared (in 1969) it caused a furor: the editor, it was angrily asserted, presumed too much. He dared to clarify - inserting a hyphen here, excising a comma there. That furor has since died down, as people realize that he did not do away with the sacred texts (any emendation was noted), but simply performed his job as editor. He regularized spelling and the use of single and double quotes (though not Capitalization, which can legitimately be thought of as integral to the poet's expression (think of e.e. cummings!)), and corrected other obvious errors. The notes give the published variants for each poem, so if you wish you may make your own call on some of these finicky issues.

I cannot emphasize enough: BUY THE HARDCOVER! After all, you will be reading this book for the rest of your life. It is a beautifully-built volume, of an easy size and heft for use, with understated appealing typefaces and an exemplary design. Put out by Frost's long-time publisher, this is one of the few essential books of American literature.

The Road Less Traveled
"It is absurd to think that the only way to tell if a poem is lasting is to wait and see if it lasts, The reader of good poem can tell the moment it strikes him that he has taken an immortal wound-that he will never get over it...The proof of a poem is not that we have never forgotten it, but we knew at sight we would never forget it."

Robert Frost

I have to admit it! When I first met Robert Frost's poetry in Freshman English class I took an immortal wound-that I will never get over it. Perhaps the then recent memory of the white haired poet who inaugurated Camelot that cold, January day conditioned me to receive the wound. Maybe Fr. Sheridan's teaching opened these poems for me. Most of all, I think that it is the words themselves which have made the poetry of Robert Frost such an important part of my life for almost 35 years.

This complete collection complemented the high school text book to which I had so often referred over the years. Here is the source of lines which I have often quoted. Many family vacations have begun with: "I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep" (Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening).

When my son tries to silence his sister's singing he is reminded that "Of course there must be something wrong In wanting to silence any song" (A Minor Bird).

Here we find philosophical reflections. "Good walls make good neighbors" counters "Something there is that doesn't like a wall" (Mending Wall).

Here "The Death of a Hired Man" challenges us to reflect upon how we value and treat others while "Christmas Trees" reminds us that not all things have prices. Here we are invited to follow the road of the poet who wrote "I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference" (The Road Not Taken).

I have writen just a sampling of the treasures to be found in this collection, but I have written enough. It is now time to indulge again with words I have never forgotten. "I shan't be gone long-You come too." (The Pasture).

My Brother Sammy
I think it's important to emphasize that all children in the family are special, each in his/her own way. Explaining to siblings that the autistic child is "special" is one way that a parent can help brothers and sisters understand, accept and love. But in a household where autism can be so demanding of parents' attention, and where the autistic child is frequently the recipient of multiple in-home therapies (i.e., additional attention), the typically developing sibling needs to know that s/he is very special, too. I agree with the other reviewers that this is a sensitive and well written book but wish it had imparted that message. Many parents of autistic children try to teach that we all equal (and equally special), just different. When reading this book to my 4 year old to help him understand his little brother, I improvised and found ways to add that he is special, too.

Award-Winning Book!
This beautifully illustrated book is the winner of the second biennial Dolly Gray Children's Literature Award sponsored by the Council for Exceptional Children's Division on Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities and Special Needs Project. This is a very touching story about a boy who comes to understand and appreciate his brother who has autism. Sammy's brother learns that in addition to having a special brother, he can be a special brother to Sammy by loving him.

A helpful book for siblings of autistic children!
Our daughter was diagnosed with Autism a couple of years ago and since then, it has hit our son the hardest. Only 16 months older than our daughter, our son has struggled with why his sister doesn't speak, why she goes to a different school and why she doesn't play the same.

'My Brother Sam' depicts a young boy who's younger brother, Sam, is afflicted with autism. I was so pleased with the way the author showed not only the full spectrum of emotions of Sam's older brother due to realistic events (which are the same kind of problems our son has had to deal with) but also spent the last half of the book telling ways the little boy was able to understand and cope with Sam's special needs and enter HIS world.

Autism affects hundreds of thousands of people and each year, it grows. If you or someone you know has a young child struggling to cope with his/her newly diagnosed sibling, this is an excellent book to start with!

good first step
found this book to be a good guide in fudge making. the only problem (if there is one) is that is takes quite a bit of time to get the nack of it. been working on hte seashore fudge for the past three weeks with limited success although improvemtn each time. well worth the book but be prepared to try and try again. pictures would have been a plus, as in what soft ball vs hard ball looks like and different colors of caramelization. think I need another reference for comparison though. all in all a good investment

The Bible of Fudge
Years ago, I picked up _Oh Fudge!_ from the local library, and it is still one of the best cookbooks I have ever seen. Detailed, fun to read, and correct, _Oh Fudge!_ is truly everything you will ever need to know on the topic; it goes into full detail on the various factors, ingredients, and processes that are required to make truly wonderful fudge.

Check it out, if only to see what a great cookbook is like!

Oh, Fudge!
Enjoyable book that will help any fudge lover to put on the pounds. I tried six different formulas so far and have enjoy every bite. Make sure you have a health club membership or a NordicTrack if you plan to buy this book and make many of the recipes inside.

Thorough, Comprehensive, Relevant, Excellent!
Hans Kung writes as one thoroughly committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, unlike some Christian writers, Kung writes with an intellectual depth and honesty that is refreshing. Kung does not shy away from bringing the Christian message into a living dialogue with modern scholarship, the other world religions, and the real challenges facing the human race today. I take issue with his sometimes-unconditional acceptance of higher Biblical criticism. However, as a Christian, I contend that Kung provides a true, relevant, and comprehensive analysis of the Christian faith for our time. A must-read for any serious theologian!

A challenging book for an atheist such as myself
Kung writes very well and made me think a great deal. He opened my mind to seeing christianity in ways I hadn't thought of before. I liked this book a great deal-the author comes across as a deeply caring man of great humanity. While I am still an atheist, this book made me stop and think very respectfully about what was written. Convincing? Not quite. Moving? Yes.

Küng gives the Christian faith some modern zeal
Küng is an amazing author and his perspective is quite envigorating. I came across this book during a time in my life when I was about to give up my Christian faith. It brought me into a fresh, living perspective and out of narrow fundamentalism once and for all. Though in his examination of Jesus' time, he tends to be too stereotypical in typecasting groups in the Jesus' time, it is an amazing paradigm to view Jesus from. I would criticize the overly eschatalogical vision he has of Jesus that he seems to get from Schweitzer. Lastly, his understanding of being a Christian as being radically human is beautiful and moving.

On the Way: General Patton's Eyes and Ears on the Enemy
Published in Hardcover by Nova Kroshka Books (1998)
Author: Edward A. Marinello
Amazon base price: $27.95
Average review score:

Overall, an intriguing and captivating book.
A perspective of WWII that I have never read before. Brings the day-to-day experience of the ordinary soldier into brutal reality. Wordy and rambling at times, but still a good book.

An Amazing Book !
On the Way, by Edward Marinello, is a fascinating eyewitness account of the American soldier on European battlefields during World War II. Through the eyes and ears of Edward Marinello, the reader witnesses the fears, challenges, and ingenuity of the men in Battery B. This should be required reading for all American history courses. On the Way gives a powerful insight to the human face of war. It is a reminder of how the courage, integrity, and tenacity of each soldier is crucial on the battlefield. This is a must read book!
