Good Information to Better Understand Your Feathered Friends
The Stokes Guides to Bird Behavior are great little references for backyard bird-watching. You may have to wander a little further than your backyard to observe some of these species, but the birds in your neighborhood are probably in one of the three Stokes volumes. Each Stokes Guide to Bird Behavior features 25 common North American bird species. For each species, the authors explain visual displays, auditory displays, territory courtship, nest-building, breeding, plumage and seasonal movement, and provide a calendar so that you can clearly see when these behaviors occur. I wouldn't take any generalizations about bird behavior too seriously because many birds are very individual, and their behaviors and social customs vary accordingly. But these books will give you a good basis for understanding and predicting the behavior of your avian neighbors. You'll enjoy watching your littled feathered friends all the more with the added understanding the Stokes Guides provide.

My one complaint about these books is that the bird species are not in any particluar order in the books, and neither are they indexed. If you look at the table of contents you will see that the species are not in alpahbetical or any other order, and there is no sense to which birds are in which volume or where they are placed in the book. In other words, you have to read through the entire list of 25 species in the table of contents, in each book, to locate the species you want. I have no explanation for this, and I made an index for the books myself to save me from the frustration involved every time I want to look up a species. That is the reason I gave the book(s) 4 stars instead of 5.

Great information just not complete in one volume.
This book is part of a three volume set. Each volume covers 25 birds. The bird behaviors are described in detail and make fascinating reading. The illustrations are in black and white so this will not help you identify birds. Volume 2 contains more of the common backyard birds but if you want complete information you need to buy the set. The best books I've seen on bird behavior. Easy to read and covers all aspects of bird behavior.

a helpful classroom tool
clear examples, well explained, a helpful textbook

Good text for Elec., Mech., or Comp. Engineers
I read this book as part of a systems engineering introductory course. I found it to be very helpful and easy to understand. The book is well organized, and the contents of the various chapters flow together smoothly. One critique is that this book would have benefited from a greater variety of practical examples. Instead it continually used a motor model. While this example was very usefull, I would have liked to have seen some other examples. Overall, a solid text.

Very good collection of tales
A good book to keep by the bed to help you fall asleep with images of a time that is gone forever.

Not to be confused with a history book written by any one person, A Rendezvous reader is a collection of selections from journal entries, newspaper articles and books, most only a page or two long, that show the culture and folklore of the mountain men and the beautifully wild world in which they lived. It describes everything from trapping techniques, encounters with grizzlies, descriptions of giant heards of buffalo, bloody fights with blackfeet, common and uncommon sources of food, surgery on the trail, beggers, weapons, river crossings, whisky, everything you might ever want to know about rendevous, why many were motivated to let out for the mountains in the first place and so much more.

The selections in this book offer the sights and sounds, smells and tastes of yonder mountains which makes worthwhile reading.

This is one entertaining read!
;) For any history and folklore affectionado, like myself, this book is made to order! The writing style is smooth and draws you right into the stories!

Donald gets Trumped!
If you're in business or thinking of owning a business (big or small) consider Trumped! This book is a good learning tool for keeping your ego in check and dollars in the bank. Trumped! takes the reader on an endless roller coaster ride into The Donald's doings, and how his huge ego and whacked business deals finally led him to his undoing. The book reveals that a large part of Trump's downfall was the death of his three lead guys, but it's ultimately The Donald's own irresponsibility that was driving the train wreck to financial failure. Trumped! is an excellent venture into the mind of an irrational, ego-driven tyrant. As far as a business book is concerned, I think it serves as a reminder to all those present or future business owners to keep a sharp eye on the books, and a big heart open for all the people who make their business a success. At times Trumped! reads like a soap opera. But the book seems to maintain an even balance between the surreal world of Donald's many romances and the cold hard numbers that make or break financial success. END

Entertaining and informitive read
This was a well written book by someone with inside knowledge of the Trump organization. The reader learns a lot about Trump's personal life and the inner workings of the casino industry. Highly recommended.

A representative catalogue of a fine Egyptian collection
This volume is a coffee-table book cataloque of the Egyptian collection of the Brooklyn Museum. A finely produced book, which contains a sumptuous amount of finely produced photos (mostly color). Though not a comprehensive catalogue of the entire (or even the majority) collection, the items that are presented and very nicely discussed, offer the reader, both lay and academic, and well-rounded view of, and an introduction to, the history and culture of ancient Egypt, and stress the importance of the Museum's Egyptian collection. For those interested in more detailed descriptions, the more comprehensive catalogues of the Museum collections (which as of yet do not cover the entire collection) can be used. In summary, this is one of the nicer catalogues of Egyptian art available to the English-reading public.

Very well written
The book takes current events and runs them next to the books of prophecy. The high-tech creations are outstanding. I never knew what was real and what the author made up. The book is excellent.

The total revision of chapter 5, improves the 4th Edition.
The complete revision of Chapter 5, Factoring Polynomials greatly enhances the students ability to understand factoring by grouping. It is a far easier process than the trial and error in previous editions. The graphics are also greatly improved, but the visibility of the check yourself exercises, found in the chapters, has been absurdly diminished! -1 star for that error in judgement!

Code of Canon Law a Text and Commentary, Study Edition

The major American commentary on canon law.
This book first appeared as a hardback in 1985, just after the 1983 Code of Canon Law was released. The paperback "study edition", virtually identical to the hardback, came out later. In either form, this book is the standard American commentary on the revised code. It generally shows a high degree of scholarship and canonical insight. Written by a variety of commentators, however, the quality of writing is uneven, and some sections are open to criticism. One should not assume that opinions presented in this (or any other) commentary are official opinions, or even widely accepted. A substantially revised version is currently underway and can be expected around the end of 1998. Even so, this earlier version of the work will remain a valuable resource for practicing canon lawyers and others interested in Catholic Church law and practice. In particular, given that most of the commentary was actually written toward the end of the canonical reform period (which ran roughly from 1965-1983) the commentary herein tends to reflect accurately this period of uncertainity and speculation which affected all aspects of Church law following the Second Vatican Council. I use the book daily in my canonical practice and often recommended it to careful readers. The index is excellent. There is, alas, no Latin original text provided.

Great Introduction to the US Transportation System
I use this book as a text in a university course. It gives a broad-brush approach to introducing the field of transportation and the various modes (planes, trains, trucks, boats). It looks at the field from both a user's and a provider's perspective and has great "real-world" examples and problems. It needs a little updating, especially regarding the regulatory environment which has changed significantly since this edition was published. I chose this book over 3 or 4 others because it is very readable and not too technical. A good introductory text.

A must read for dental professionals to update vital info!
Every working and instructing dental professional should readthis text concerning medically compromised patients. It updates, aswell as reviews, the important topics that are seen every day in private practice. Especially important is the areas of TB, HIV, and diabetes, although recent information may need to be added by the practioner (check out internet sites for these). Introductory tables are a must for reference in a clinical situation. I have used it a reference text in my clinical practice and in my continuing education courses.
