DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!! IT HAS A DEFECTIVE CD...
don't buy this book 'cause the 70-216 has a defective CD in it and the publisher won't replace it 'cause they haven't made a working version yet and if you lost your receipt and not send your copy to them, they won't send you the working version when it done.

also this is what i got from the support of the publisher:

"Thanks for the inquiry. We apologize for the installation problems with the E-Book programs on the Sybex Interface of the CD. This unfortunate error wasn't discovered until after the CD had been sent to the CD replicator."

Great book for students and adult learners!
I bought Sybex MCSA Core few months ago and after reading each book only once I passed all my certifications. I didn't have nay problems with defective CD's and recomend these books for anyone interested in getting certified in the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system.

Worst Study Guide from Sybex
Holding the MCSE title I'm using this book for preparing the 70-240 exam. But this is the worst book from Sybex I ever read! The book skips around the themes, repeats whole paragraphs and has a lot of errors in it. I reported quite a lot to Sybex. But until today, none of them have been put onto their web site! Also there's NO such electronic version of the book on the enclosed CD-ROM as they say in the Readme.txt. This is a big misstake too! It's a pitty, really not worth the whole money!

Brilliant - the key to my pass!
Just passed the 70-240. I used this book to study for the whole thing and it was the best of all the books I saw. If you want a concise guide (most of them are just too long) that will give you all the essentials then this is it. You have to know every little bit that is in here because it doesn't repeat things but the text, exercises (on CD-ROM) and Exams (also on CD-ROM) are all spot on - very clearly explained and not riddled with mistakes like some others. I did also use a 4 day Wave bootcamp to reinforce the material and fill in a few gaps before passing the exam.

Highly Recommended
Just passed This exam yesterday. I used this guide for study and the Exam Notes to refresh my efforts prior to the exam. This book is recommended for anyone who is current in their NT4 MCSE skill sets. Troubleshooting issues like DNS, permissions, IP, etc. all have their roots in NT4 so the book may not offer indepth troubleshooting sections. Having passed the exam, I can tell for your sure...Your NT4 troubleshooting skills will get you through. What is most important is applying those skills to the new features of Win2K DDNS, RIS, NAT, RRAS, GPO, Active Directory and other new features. They Sybex guide covers them well and the included exercises in the PDF on CD really bring home the points even for those of us who have been working with Win2k from its beta release but haven't yet implemented all of its various features sets yet. Microsoft does not waste your time with trick questions on this exam about obscure corners of the OS not covered in study guides or used in the field as we may have seen in NT4 exam. The Window2000 Accelerated exam will definitely test your attention to detail (clever scenarios but no tricks) however the exam fairly tests your knowledge in areas you should know about to implement Win2K effective and prove your real world experience with this OS. Take nothing for granted, take your NT4 experience, your Win2K hands-on, and THIS Sybex guide and go pass this exam. I highly recommend the companion Exam Notes as it takes all the objectives covered in the Study Guide and neatly organizes them by individual exams: Win2k Pro, Win2k Server, Win2k AD Admin, and Win2K Net Infrastructure Admin. I'm proof the exam can be successfully passed. The exams are not as overwhelming as first thought but they are definitely not a peace a cake. Sybex will get you there.

very good text book
It is a very good text book, but the pictures would be colored. Color pictures are important for the patologist veterinary and for the students.

good text but lacks colour
This is a very good and concise textbook. However I think it is a big minus that all the pictures are in black and white. Colour pictures are extremely important for students of pathology!

Thorough, yet concise and accurate
This is an excellent reference book for pathology students of any specialty. There are good examples and descriptions of each topic, and the book is well organized, making it easy to search for a specific topic.

Ok book, but don't expect to pass....
This book will help in studying some of the concepts for the 70-215, but will not help very much in passing. Almost all books do not cover what is really on the test( I took test in Dec2002 ). The subjects and wording of the test is different than just about anything that you will encounter in the MCSE/MCSA books.

Good Study Guide ¿ Maybe, Great Step By Step Reference Yes.
As a study guide this book could do better on explaining what to expect on this Exam. I personally found this book to be better at walking you step by step through various tasks. At times it edged on being to simple, at other times more detail was needed on the why. You need to know more about the usefulness of a task to pass the Exam. I still rate this book high because of its thoroughness in explaining how to do various tasks in Windows 2000 Server. Definitely a good choice to as one of a number of books you will need to study to pass the Windows 2000 Server Exam.

Thorough coverage of the exam material
I've always preferred the Sybex study guides for my certification studies, and this one continues the standard of excellence. The exam is a difficult one, covering a lot of subject matter, and this Sybex guide is good preparation (though hands-on practice is vital too). The authors make a good team -- their study guide for 70-210 (Windows 2000 Professional) is also excellent. Highly recommended.

Lousy textbook, Chemistry students beware!
I have had nothing but problems with this book. The practice problems in the chapter do not reflect the ones at the end of the chapter, which pretty much leaves it up to you to figure out what is going on. The chapters are not well written in the first place! Very hard to follow! There is no supplemental solution manual to follow along with so you can see how the practice problems were solved. I could go on and on. In general, possibly the worst chemistry text I have ever had to use.

awful textbook
Obviously I am a disgruntled chemistry student. I will be graduating Cum Laude this spring, and I just suffered through Quantitative Analysis using this book. The problems do not match the examples, there is little background given to the concepts described, and there is no study guide that shows the methods needed to solve problems. My Thermal Physics instructor finally gave up using another Saunders book for the same reasons. Saunders books are more devoted to working problems than describing or teaching the processes that occur. I urge any instructors considering this book to look for a different text!!

Average
Reasonably solid text, but far to many errors. A source of frusrtration for anyone trying to learn quickly.

Shame shame shame!
This is the worst SYBEX book I have ever purchased (out of 12). Yes I do believe I cought an "occasional error" it falls somewhere between page 1 and 786. The typos are embarrassing and too many to point out, was the editor on vacation when this was going to print. I only blame Lisa Donald and James Chellis, the authors, and WILL avoid their future books, sorry guys, your names are on the hard cover. I also do not appreciate the lack of authors emails or an email to send feedback to for the book. In closing can I get a refund? Very, very disapointed,

Do not use this book as a study guide for the MCSA
***Some errors not included in the Errata***
1. Page 82. "Reseal" should be "Reset"

2. Page 15. 2nd paragraph. Under "Clean Install or Upgrade?". The book states that the "only operating systems that can be upgraded to Windows XP Professional are Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 3.51 or 4, and Windows 2000 Professional."

Not to be rude. But you might want to get the author of that statement in sync with the author of the following statement from page 106.

Page 106. 1st paragraph. Under "Client Upgrade Paths and Requirements". The book now indicates that "Only the following operating systems can be directly upgraded to Windows XP Professional: Windows 98 (all releases), Windows Me, Windows NT Workstation 4, and Windows 2000 Professional".

OK. I ask you, "What happened to Windows 3.51 from page 15"? Did it get up on all fours and walk out?

Another one on Page 106. "There is no supported direct upgrade path for Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51, or any version of NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 Server."

Look at the book. One paragraph above it says "NT 4.0 Workstation is supported". Now one paragraph below it says that "any version of NT 4 is "...(not) supported".

Look at the book. On page 15 the book indicates that Windows 3.51 is supported. On page 106 you retract that statement and now say it's not supported. This book is inconsistent and discrepant. Perhaps the book is fraudulent, deceitful, and fallacious.

Do NOT use this book for the MCSE exam!
I bought this book and another Sybex book (MCSE Windows 2000 Directory Services Design) at about the same time in preparation for these two exams. I am SORELY disappointed in Sybex for these books. I took the Windows XP exam yesterday and failed it. This is not the first time I have failed an exam, but it is the first time that I failed one because my study guide didn't properly cover the material. There are a plethora of problems with this book. First of all, as everyone else has said, the editing is TERRIBLE. I saw a multitude of typos, inconsistencies, and just plain wrong answers! Also, the CD that comes with the book makes a good coaster; don't use it for the test. I scored over 90% on most of the exams on the CD, then when I went to take the test, I said, "Hmmm...I've never seen THAT before..." (referring to the book's lack of coverage of the new GPUPDATE.EXE vs. the old SECEDIT.EXE amongst other things). Also, the Adaptive Test that comes on the CD is totally useless because it scores some of your answers wrong even if they are right. (Anybody see any problems with this?!)

I had never bought a Sybex guide before; I am not likely to purchase one again, despite their generally good reputation. Life is too short for me to spend [money] and two weeks on a useless study guide. I only gave the damn thing 2 stars because it DOES teach about Windows XP, just not what you need for the test. Isn't that nice? I'm just glad I hadn't wasted 4 hours and [money] taking the Design test yet...I know to read another book first. (Check out the reviews for the Design book...it's even worse than this one.)

So-so guide, lots of room for improvement
Here are my thoughts on this book.

Pros: 1. Very reasonably priced as a comprehensive review book and supposedly a money back guarantee.
2. It is current and up to date (as of the April 2003 exam)
3. It has a pretty good variety and quantity of examples and practice problems.

Cons: 1. There are a large number of errors in the example and practice problems. I found at least 50 errors in using this book as a review guide and it is difficult, especially on some of the example problems where I would wonder for half an hour where I went wrong. Some of the errors are obvious, others are difficult or near impossible to spot if you are trying to relearn this material and remember very little. I am sure there are significantly more errors since my review did not cover the book comprehensively and I'm sure I missed a lot as well.
2. The text is not very well written. Some sections go into too much detail while others simply scratch the surface. There were times when I learned more from reading the EIT handbook than from this review book.
3. Lastly, I was a little disappointed when I went to take the practice exam and I found several identical questions to the practice problems provided in the different chapters. The least they could have done was make sure not to reuse questions so that when we'd like to take the practice exam we haven't just seen the questions from review sections.

Depicts the events, does not not explain why things happened
Having just visited Loreto BCS where the very first mission was erected, I read this book in hope of gaining further historical insights about the colonilzation of Baja California. I was hoping it would tell me why missions were built where they were built, what mission life was like, and how if affected the native population.

This book instead is merely a narrative of the events that took place.

Some historical facts about funding and support from the Spanish government is included.

Good reading but I was left unsatisfied.

Nothing Unifying Here
I bought this book with the hope of reading how top contemporary Protestant scholars address the issue of ecclesiology espoused by Rome and the Orthodox. It left me sadly disappointed. The chapter that addresses the four marks of the church defined in the nicene creed did not attempt to reconcile Protestant perceptions of those terms with the historical understanding of the council fathers. None dealt substantially with Eph 5:32. I was further saddened that one author criticized the piety of Catholics on the basis of his understanding rather than taking the time to just ask some of them why they were doing it. All guns trained against Catholicism while the Eastern Orthodox hold nearly identical views on ecclesiology. Perhaps someday a book with less rhetoric and polemic will attempt to address issues that build understanding rather than polarizing divisiveness.
