Unashamed, direct, honest, on par with women poets today.
This collection was a huge surprise. Unlike the steryo type of what women in China was like, subservient to husbands they are forced to marry, with little thoughts and feelings for themselves.

These women poets starting from 1644-1911, shout out thier love of thier partners, discuss drinking, sex, lust, romance, infactutation and even loving other women.

The metaphors are soft and light at the first reading, yet if you look deeper you realise some of the subjects are far from the softness the poetry is conveyed in.

A good histrical text on Chinese Women and a good read. As the previous reviewer said, buy two and give one to a friend.

One of the greatest collaborative translations ever
An exciting selection of poems by known and previously unknown women poets. Ling Chung's scholarship and sensitivity gave the late great Kenneth Rexroth the insight and inspiration to outdo himself here. Buy two copies and give one to a friend.

Amazing Fish
This is an engaging and accurate book for ages 4-8 though it is equally suited for older students. The pictures are beautiful. Children love the format of many pictures and brief pockets of print all over the page. The text is appropriate for independent 8-y.old readers as well as for older students with and without reading problems. Children of all ages will love to hear the text read to them. Amazing Fish is notable for holding the attention of students with learning disabilities. I use it with reluctant readers in my private educational therapy practice.

Wish they had more like these!
My nearly 3-year-old daughter absolutely loves this book! She is a huge animal fan. The book is great for even younger children as well. We got the book when she was about 1 1/2 and it has held her interest all this time. My daughter likes to turn the wheel and read each caption under the pictures.

Buddhist Critique of the Christian Concept of God
Published in Paperback by Golden Leaves Pub (1993)
Authors: Gunapala Dharmasiri and Trevor Ling
Amazon base price: $22.95

Masterpiece
This book is simply amazing. It's a must read for any Buddhist or non-Christian who has ever been verbally attacked by a zealous Christian. And it's an important book for Christians to read because while it may not convince them that their deity does not exist, it may help them understand why the majority of humans reject their concept of god. Mr. Dharmasiri is brilliant in his analysis and understanding of the Christian concept of god, and he goes to great lengths to illustrate the irrational nature of such belief. Furthermore, Mr. Dharmasiri does all this in the compassionate and understanding way that has always been a halmark of Buddhist debate. He does not ridicule or belittle. I really hope more people take the time to read this book.

The only problem with the book is that it's hard to find. The only place I know where you can obtain a copy is in Sri Lanka at the Buddhist Publication Society.

A really good book
I thought this book was really great!! I really did enjoy reading it. It really stood up for all the little guys that don't think that they can do anything, and this book shows and tells them that they can do something good and save somebody if they really put their mind to it. This was a really good book to read and I would recommend it to anyone!

a critical read on taiwanese independence
i'm grateful to have stumbled on this book in the mit dewey library as i searched for documentation for a paper i'm writing for a history class.

i'd never have thought i'd be so thoroughly engrossed by a historical text, but, well, i am.

wang presents the issue and its ramifications in a broad historical context, but her writing remains focused throughout.

i might just buy this thing. it's THAT good.

Struggles, love and relationship, war.....all in one book
A very interesting biography describing details and strength of human spirit in times of trouble, where ambitions are realised, love flourished, relationship strengthened and most importantly, a niche carved out. A very inspirational book showing that the rich Chinese people could endure as much hardship as the poor illustrated in Pearl Buck's novels. Curious bout boarding life in schools, then read this!!! At the end of the book, u might want to ask yourself whether you are a carrot, an egg, or coffee beans when put inside boiling water.

Informative read for all
I was working on a paper dealing with folk music and this is truly the best book on the subject that I found! It is an excellent review of the history of ethnomusiclogy as well as of the evolution of various folk music styles. It also provides some interesting answers in the area of comparative musicology. No other book can compare in the scope that is covered here. It is highly readable even for people who have no knowledge of the subject matter!
