Priceless to any Civil War buffs who like to travel!
I first learned of this book in Southern Living Magazine. I immediately checked with Amazon and there it was. My husband and I have been planning a "Civil War" trip for some time. I have received several publications from different states but this is the first comprehensive guide of inns with direct connections to Civil War sites. The pictures and historical descriptions of the inns are great. I have not found this amount of detailed information on the internet. I highly recommend this book to any historically minded traveler. If you don't travel, it's still a great read!

Great Book
As far as children's books were concerned, this was my favorite. I am 33 years old now, but first read this book when I was 7. By the time I had left the elementary school (from which library I obtained the work) at age 8, I had read it at least 7 times (no kidding, I knew much of it by heart). Although today I have chosen engineering as my profession, that early exposure has led to an intense lifetime interest in history. I am indebted to the author, and it's a shame that I can't tell that person how much their work impacted me 25 or 26 years ago, and still does today.

Amazon.com recently found me an out of print copy of this book. Fortunately, now I'll have the opportunity to share it with others in the future.

THE Biography of a great man
This has got to be the authoritative biography on Robert E. Lee. Ms. Sanborn shows all sides of Lee: the husband, father, soldier, friend, and loyal Virginia resident.
Including primary sources ad nauseam, this book gives you all the silver and none of the dross.
If any person dismisses Lee as a traitor (which I heard a man say) they show their ignorance of a noble life. They should also read this book.
Also, the author does not hesitate to state the shortcomings of Lee (although there weren't many).

A Great Primary History & Great Read
If anybody asked me--describe St. Louis--I can now just hand them a copy of this book. Beginning with Pere Jacques Marquette and concluding with Gerald Early, 300 plus years of St. Louis are illustrated through various memoirs, stories, poems, essays and plays as told by St. Louisans (both well known and lesser known).

Not just mere public relations ad campaign for the region, the collection also confronts issues head-on that have plagued the region for quite some time. However many selections also remind us how many great aspects there are in this region to offer its citizens.

The introductions and bios for the individual authors also provide great context and insight to the pieces, as well as including many interesting tibits of information that even the most knowledgable St. Louisian wouldn't know. Kudos to Lee Ann Sandweiss and everyone at the Missouri Historical Society for assembling an anthology very worthy of anyone who "seeks St. Louis."

best kept secret
First of all, let me note that I read the book in Korean (the original version), so I cannot speak for the translation.

There seem to be numerous works by Western authors regarding Asian culture including that of Japan in the market today. Yet, I have never heard of any other book about Japan whicn is as discussed and read by Japanese people as this book. I am an Asian myself, so I might be a bit biased in saying the following; I find the efforts and dedication of the aforementioned Western authors very noble, yet they often do not have a clue. In many instances, they would find a Japanese trait and/or characteristic, and assume that it is an pan-asian element, or vice versa, thus failing to pinpoint the distinguishing characteristic of the culture. As German culture is very different from English, French and American, so is Japanese culture from any other asian countries. Mr. Lee, the author of this book, is a Korean professor and scholar. He brilliantly distinguishes what is Japanese from What is Asian, and distills Japanese culture into a very simple thesis. More amazingly, he does this without sacrifising depth.

He uses all aspects of his knowledge (and his knowledge is enormously expansive); he draws from Japanese language, Japanese theater, music, religion, myths, sports, history, etc. All the while, he does not sidetrack, but stays on the thesis of the book, guiding the readers with him. Whenever you think that he is done making his brilliant point, he give you another, another and another. This is a must read for anyone interested in Japan.

Col. Allan's Classic Work
An essential for any serious student of Jackson or the Army of Northern Virginia. Five stars plus, but not for the novice. Col. Allan was Jackson's ordnance officer, and after the war he devoted the better part of his remaining years to these two comprehensive works included under one cover. Allan intended to write a comprehensive history of the Army of Northern Virginia for the entirety of the war, but his premature death left this greater work unfinished. His work on Jackson, which primarily covers the Valley Campaign, I consider the better of the two works because of its greater completeness. Both, however, are superb, early intensely scholastic efforts on the war, fully deserving of the stature as primary source works on the Civil War. The footnotes are old-style, page by page. Read them that way; slow, but it adds flavor. Buy this one while it is available.

Enough said about the method.
This book in my view puts to rest the decades long debate about what " method acting " is. IN HIS OWN WORDS, Strasberg explains that these are not the be all and end all for acting, but exercises for unlocking the creative abilities of the INDIVIDUAL ACTOR ! Absorb what you need from it and put the rest on the shelf for later.

10 years or more...can't forget it...
I can't remember the year I read this book, but I remember being young and impressionable...being a self proclaimed hopeless romantic, i must say that this book was the beginning of my romantic thought...the chance that anything is possible! It's a nice feeling...So, now I sit here and I'm looking for this book that i read when I was about 9 or 10, and I'm hoping to read it again...I don't want to give anything away, but the story truly has some nice twists for a young reader--excitingly romantic (in that puppy love way) and truly a 'page-turner'...
