Eventually we finally get back to the Bible with a study on the fruit of the spirit. No problems there. Then Tim Lahaye attempts to explain and cure some of the common ailments of believers. I nearly choked when he stated that selfishness is the root cause of depression. Seeing as he apparently knows so much as to write a whole book on depression, I thought somewhere he would have noticed that introspection and self-centeredness are common symptoms of depression. He continues with a story about confronting a depressed friend about her selfishness. Unfortunately, she wouldn't believe him, and is still depressed. With all due respect, saying selfishness is the cause of depression is like saying sneezing is the cause of colds, and telling a depressed person to stop being selfish will be about as effective as telling a person with a cold to stop sneezing!
Forgive my insistence on this particular point, but I have seen and experienced firsthand so many Christians rejecting their fellow believers because of their depression, anxiety, mental problems, or whatever. They think that this would never, ever happen to a true Christian, and have books like this one as their proof. Because of this belief, which conveniently overlooks David, Elijah, and Jesus, many people have been hurt.
Tim Lahaye's theories do not come from the Bible, as much as they claim to be Biblical. I suggest that Tim Lahaye, as a pastor and Bible scholar, not a psychologist, stick to those areas he is qualified in rather than constructing elaborate theories in areas where he apparently knows very little.
I have developed and entire seminar and workshop series over the past 15 years based upon a great deal of what I learned from reading and applying the information obtained from these two books.
Through the seminars and recommending several of Tim's books on Temperament, I have seen, first-hand, literally dozens of people who have had major positive changes occur in their lives. I know of not a single person, who seriously looked at the knowledge of temperament as an informational tool to engage personal development, who has not benefited.
But, like all tools, they are incapable of 'performing' until put into action.
The knowledge of the 'temperaments' gives you the basis for understanding human nature: the foundation of who we are and why we do what we do. "Spirit-Controlled Temperament" .. moves the bar up a level and into a whole new dimension: the spiritual dimension.
The reader is shown that the development of their understanding of temperaments is more than just a physical exercise. Dr. LaHaye shows the value of looking deeper into the awesome potential of the Temperaments; looking at them in the light of spiritual understanding.
Again, a tool's potential is never fully realized until a 'skilled' craftsman puts it into service. And one does NOT become a 'skilled craftsman' without an 'extra measure' of outside influence.
Starting at 'square-one', with an understanding of the the 'rules of engagement' in life, and a relatively clear concept of the 'game-plan', is so much less painful than landing in the middle of the 'treadmill of life' with no clue as to the rules or the plan.
This is the extreme value a thorough knowledge of the temperaments can provide. Imagine, the magnificent gift a parent can bestow upon their children by having command over their own temperament and then passing this knowledge on to the next generation, through example and instruction.
What a grand gift to ALL of society!
"Spirit-Controlled Temperament" provides valuable information to set that foundation for the reader. I strongly recommend finding a copy of "Your Temperament: Disover its Potential" and reading and refer to it regularly. It's out-of-print, but used copies can be found.
I did, right here on Amazon.
I found it refreshing as it was straight forward and didn't "pad the blows." Not only did it point straight to the truth of human nature, it abolished the idea that we, as humans, can make it in this world without the Lord. I was so very impressed with the truth given quickly, and then the blessings added. Not only did it point out how truly selfish we were, it then lifted us to new heights with the reality that God can change it all.
Amen to Dr. LaHaye! Thank God for his wisdom and his ability to share God's heart. Finally, a book that calls it as it is.

Meanwhile, the other three post-Rapture teens face more troubles, along with two new friends, John and Mark. As they struggle to spread the Truth behind the global vanishings and warn people of the coming global judgments foretold in Scripture, the noose tightens at Nicolae High and the kids find themselves facing the pressure that threatens to keep the kids from sticking together as a team. They also seek to find out who the insider at the school who is helping them is. In the midst of their troubles, Old Testament prophecies are coming true all around them. Nicolae Carpathia, the one who the kids found to be the Antichrist back in book 4, signs a peace treaty with the nation of Israel, thus signalling the beginning of the seven most chaotic and perilous years mankind will ever see. By the time book 7 comes to its end, Carpathia has established a global regime and gains total control of Earth, decieving the people of the world into believing that he is the world savior, thus fulfilling Revelation chapter 6:1-2. Will the kids stay alive?
Busted is without a doubt one of the best installments in the series. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, and it ends with a cliffhanger, as do all the books so far, and makes you eager to read the next book in this series about a group of post-Rapture Christians who struggle to survive in a quickly-dying world. 5 stars.

READ< this book!
In this third installment, the four kids find themselves in grave danger when Ryan sneaks around associates of Lionel's Uncle Andre and learns dangerous information. After narrowly escaping a mass murderer, Ryan returns to his friends and tells them what he heard. The four of them boldly set out to find more answers concerning Andre and in the process risk their very lives. Judd and Lionel narrowly escaping with their lives in a nerve-frazzling rescue attempt in a burning building, while at the same time, Vicki and Ryan are chased through the streets of Chicago by the same murderer who set the apartment fire.
Through the Flames is one of the most exciting installments in the Left Behind Kids series. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, and the cliffhanger ending will make you want to read the next installment, Facing the Future.

That said, Tim LaHaye seems bent on reviving Hal Lindsay's ideas, and that is a Very Bad Thing. I'm still waiting for one verse that even suggests a pre-trib rapture.
I was also impressed with the timely delivery of my order. Amazon.com also gets 5 stars!
In my book it was supposed to be Vicki and judd!!!!

I believe in presenting the truth to my children to the best of my ability.
This means the truth of the Bible -- not the opinion of an extreme minority.
This means the truth of Church History -- warts and all.
This means the truth of Secular History.
This means the truth of what comprises good literature vs. poor literature -- and this series does not represent the quality of material I want my children to handle.
Truth is frequently painful and sometimes scary.
HOWEVER, I do NOT believe in deliberately frightening children into accepting or rejecting a particular opinion or viewpoint. It appears to this parent that such religious "scare tactics" are precisely what is being engaged in with these books.
My children know about heaven and hell. They know what it requires to end up in either of those destinations. They understand that hell is a pretty scary place. But I choose to teach them in a positive, rather than in a negative vein. Being "scared straight" is imperfect contrition. Granted, it beats no contrition at all -- but it results in fear rather than love.
This is what this series appears to accomplish: salvation through fear, rather than salvation through acceptance of the love of the God of Love.
Parents, pay attention to what your children read. Teach them about the love of God, not only through your words but through the example of your life. But don't try to frighten them into the Kingdom.
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."
Like the other books in the series, "Nicolae" features corny dialogue and ridiculously melodramatic scenes. The message of "Nicolae" seems to be that religious diversity is a bad thing; for the book's heroes, the only legitimate viewpoint is a Christian fundamentalist viewpoint. Further, the book seems to foster Christian fundamentalist fantasies of persecution (the "us against the world" mentality). The idea that American public schools oppress Christian fundamentalists is a key theme here.
Actually, I found the most interesting aspect of "Nicolae" to be a couple of brief references to "Star Trek." These references are ironic, considering the vast gulf between the vision of "Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry and the authors of the "Left Behind: The Kids" series. Approach the second of these two visions with caution.
Danger awaits them at every turn. The authorities outlaw carrying Bibles or talking about God. They risk everything in order to speak the Truth to their peers. The authorities hunt them down and attempt to persecute them. How long will they be able to avoid the authorities and share their faith with their peers? Read Nicolae High and find out!

This is a great example of how this book is filled with all sorts of assumptions. Tim LaHaye says we return with Christ to battle at Armageddon in Revelation 19:14. Revelation 19:14 says "armies" (it doesn't say us or the church) wearing linen that's "white and clean" (NAS) are seen coming with Christ to battle (19:19). The assumption is made that these armies are the church because Revelation 19:8 says that the saints are given linen, "bright and clean" (NAS). He's overlooked the fact that Revelation 15:6 states that angels wear linen that is "clean and bright" (NAS). 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8 tells us that angels return with Christ to deal out retribution. These "armies" seen in Revelation 19:14 appear to be angels, not the church. Not one verse says the church will return with Christ like Tim Lahaye states as a fact. This is just one example showing why we need to read the bible more. This is also one of the many examples of how the pre-trib teachers manipulate scripture to make it appear that we will avoid persecution. They say that because we are seen returning with Christ to battle at Armageddon (which no passage supports) in Revelation 19:14 we MUST be raptured pre-tribulationaly and then wait in heaven for seven years for the battle. If interested, try a book by Robert Van Kampen, H.L. Nigro or Marvin Rosenthal. Read their books and check out every verse with your bible and I think you will like it.

I was very nervous and scared about the First Night. I found out that my spouse was also very nervous. The LeHayes book helped to lessen and queit our fears. I think the best part of the boo is the description of the Brain and mind as the most important sexual organ. Overall, the LeHayes did a wonderful job.

Facing the Future picks up where book 3 left off. Judd and Vicki go to Chicago to witnes the arrest of a mass murderer, by whom they had almost been killed. After the arrest, Judd shares his Faith to a group of police officers. All the officers except one laugh it off. The young Homicide cop Archibald Edwards is interested. Later on in the book, good news and bad news come about. The kids witness to the wife of a police officer about the Gospel message and she become a Christian. Archibald Edwards, the cop who is somewhat interested in the Gospel message, is suddenly killed by the murderer LeRoy Banks when he attempts but fails a jailbreak attempt. This book seems to be trying to make a point, which is this: if you've heard the Gospel message, do not wait; do not put off coming to Christ because you may not have tomorrow to live. Do not risk your life and, more importantly, your afterlife by thinking you have all the time in the world, because you do not!
When the kids learn from Biblical prophesy that within the next seven years, the end of the world would come about through war, famine, pestilences, plagues, earthquakes, and cosmic disturbances, they realize their purpose for living as Christians in a world plunged into mass chaos. They also discover who the Antichrist is when a man who has encountered the Antichrist shares his nightmarish story . . .
I would say that this will keep you on your toes and you will not want to stop reading. It also leaves you hanging on a cliff, and you will want to read the next book of the series. --TF
