You already know what it's going to say.
News Flash: this book is exactly the same is everything else the LaHayes have ever written. Don't let the 'over 40' fool you. The advice is only marginally different from what they tell the under 40 marrieds.

Here, I'll save you the cash : "Keep adhering to scriptural principles throughout your entire life"

Now take the money you saved and give it to the needy.

Excellent!
I found this book to be very informative about middle age and beyond, marriage, physical problems, exercise, health, E.D., and, especially, sex life. It includes a section on hygiene, sexual positions, and sexual techniques, and everything is written from the Christian point of view. I found it very helpful and interesting. I would like to read the original "The Act of Marriage" to complement it.

Helpful and better than many secular sex books
First off I come from a what can best be described as a liberal or wild mode (in the past) so there is little that shocks me when it comes to sex talk. This is why I loved this book because it does what Ed Wheat and other Christians are finally doing and that is talking honestly about sex and how during different stages of life and marriages our bodies change and how we can renew the intimacy of marriage.

There are, believe it or not, a number of Christians who fall into two different groups. One side you have the Christians who have succumbed to secular and in my opinion rather vulgar sex info. The other side is made up of Christians who have sexual issues in their marriage, and be it myths that say that nice Christians do not talk about "those things" the marriage stays in a day to day rut. Nothing gets better and if lucky nothing gets worse. But the intimacy is dead.

The Lahayes are blunt but in a civil manner, and discuss the most intimate issues and problems that may effect a couple when it comes to sexual pleasure. Coming from a Jewish background, and now in a Christian marriage I am glad they recognize that G~d made sexual pleasure for the marriage bed and that sexual pleasure is good. I would also recommend Kosher Sex another great book on sex.

One of Tim laHaye's better books
This is one of Tim LaHaye's better non-fiction efforts... as a professional in the field of personality (which Tim calls temperament) there are many better books available, but it is not bad.

Most of the info on personality factors is non-gender-specific, although the illustrations and applications used all relate to men, so remember that if you're looking for information on personality in general. It is quite accessible and understandable, and it would be good to see companion books about women's and kids' personalities - particularly kids, because understanding the personality of your children is an exceptional parenting tool. However, I think Tim is too busy churning out apocalyptic novels to worry about these at the moment!

Everything you need to know
I really enjoyed this book. Not only was it witty, but intelligent and well-founded. The stability of my relationships with all the men around me is due in part to the understanding I gained from reading this insightful book. My favorite nonfiction work today, Tim LaHaye's well-researched, objective and enlightening look into the heart of man changed my perspective and made me laugh at the same time.

Dr. Lahaye, the unsung miracle man of "modern" psychology
This book made me throw all my past ideas of psychology aside. It changed my life! While simple to read, this book is both the unified field theory and the rosetta stone of the human personality. Totally amazed, I followed Dr. Lahaye's simple wheel chart and went right to a categorized temperament type. Bulls eye! Using a daringly bold style my temperament category was told of it's greatest weakness. Exposed, I saw myself as silly and not strong. I now block that characteristic out of my interpersonal relationships with men, and especially women. Like a similar best selling author, Dr. Laura, Dr. Lahaye writes with scriptural emphasis probably gleaned from his Christian college President and professional family counseling years.

Desperately needs to get its facts straight
Admittedly, I didn't get through this book. What stopped me was the chapter on the "facts" about antidepressants. LaHaye obviously has a bias against medication, but I would respect him more if he would just admit it rather than dragging out every remotely possible side effect of medications that are not commonly used today. The end of the chapter, discussing Prozac, suggests that it's a new and experimental drug that will likely be as harmful as he claims the ones before it were. Well, Prozac was not exactly new in 1996, at the time of the last revision of this book. In fact, doctors were finding it, along with newer medications, to be safer and just as effective in treating depression. I suspect that LaHaye didn't want to ruin his scary story, but a book that claims to be the truth about depression should at least get its facts straight. Whether to use medication or not in treating depression is a personal choice of every Christian affected, but misinformation about antidepressant medication only complicates the issue. The selective revision of this chapter comes periously close to lying.

Valuable but not for everyone
This book is useful, for those in the majority who in my opinion wallow in self pity when self discipline and G~dly focus is what is the cure. It would be helpful if Dr Lahaye and others would write on the subject, and discuss the problem that caregivers and others who have bouts of depression, simply because the pressues are to much and often we carry the load alone.

But Dr Lahaye is correct when he reasons that depression can also be a tool of the enemy or un-g~dly forces who attempt to make people who simply are making poor choices, feel like victims and the viscous circle of victomology begins.

I would recommend the book to anyone who has or knows of someone who simply needs honest answers about how to get out of the pity party mode. One may wince at what Dr Lahaye says, but it is my experience that we all need an occasional wake-up call and a wise person who tells us what we need to hear and not always what we wish to hear.

This book has a lot of good points
This particular book helped me get out of a recent deep depression. In particular, it helped to focus on how my anger and self-pity kept the cycle of depression going. It also showed me that I was focusing on the circumstances of my life, keeping myself trapped by what other people might or might not do.

This book also showed me that while healing might be needed in some areas of my life, I didn't have to wait until that healing was done to get rid of my depression. I highly recommend this book to anyone (but especially Christians) who are struggling with depression or those who have a loved one in that situation.

This Book Is Wrong About Our Founding Fathers
This book is wrong about our founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson hoped that our country would be one of religious diversity. Today he'd be considered a Unitarian. He had friends who were Buddhist and Hindu. Jefferson was a Deist. So were Washington, Adams, Franklin, Paine, Hamilton, Madison. They admired the teachings of Jesus but they did not consider Jesus to be a divine being, and they did not accept the Old Testament version of God (a cruel, vengeful, authoritarian, anthropomorphic being). Read some of the letters our founding fathers wrote. They believed in science and reason. They denounced the narrow-minded intolerant Christian bigots of their day.

James Madison said in a speech in 1778: "Freedom arises from the multiplicity of sects, which pervades America and which is the best and only security for religious liberty in any society. For where there is such a variety of sects, there cannot be a majority of any one sect to oppress and persecute the rest."

Read "Why the Religious Right is Wrong about the Separation of Church and State" and "The Christ Conspiracy".

Leaves out the truth.
Like all revisionist history books, this one convienantly leaves out references to anything that would dispute its claims.
This book makes no mention of Deisim. Thomas Payne wrote a book called "The Age Of Reason" that detailed the beliefs of many of our founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson and most of the big names, yet, there is no mention of it or Thomas Payne. Face it Christains,
many of our founders did not believe in Christ, Moses or Mohammed, and they had the good sense to put separation of church and state into the constitution. Thank God.

Responding to previous reviews
After reading the sadly ignorant and biased, review by Dennis Harvey that is listed below, I just had to point out that the facts are standards to which we should adhere after placing emotions and heartfelt desires aside. If we are intellectually honest enough to do so, the only "revisionists," are those who still refuse to acknowledge the facts, or attempt to subvert them, even after they have been presented to them. Ignorance of the truth is one thing, refusal to accept it when handed to you on a platter is quite another.

That this country was founded upon a common set of Jewish and Christian principles of morality and equality is self-evident, even to the most casual observation, if one but takes the time to examine the facts. Facts such as those presented in this book and others like it. Now, anyone who disagrees with this cannot attack me based upon logic or facts, so they will need to resort to character assignation and perhaps call me narrow minded or bigoted. However, contrary to popular buzz words, Christians are NOT legalistic or bigoted when they stand up for their heritage, any more than one of many other sub-cultures in our society which we are asked to tolerate would be narrow minded in voicing their feelings.

Facts hold more weight than feelings though, and individuals like Lehaye have finally said enough is enough and have stood up for the truth. If more people consulted their local library, bypassed the revisionist section, and went straight to the original documents that this country was built upon this country would once again be a bastion of liberty and freedom for ALL. For example, anyone who has heard of Noah's flood account, and then takes the time to read the Old Testament or the Tanakh literally, will come away believing that approximately 4400 years ago there was a global killer of a catastrophic flood just as what we see supported in all walks of science, Archaeology, and Geology to name but two. As such, all "races" or should I more accurately say, "skin colors," on the earth today actually share a common ancestral heritage in our forefather Noah who lived, about 4400 years ago if we are to take Jewish account literally. I choose to do so, because Jewish scribes would bury their scrolls if even a punctuation mark was inaccurate from one copy to the next as the history was passed down from eyewitness account to modern day). Therefore, Christians and Jews who read scripture literally, have a head start on this whole novel concept of "racial equality," since we don't even believe in racial division to begin with - the Bible tells us we are all one blood. The same sort of retort could be proffered for any other silly character slur in the realm of "bigoted and narrow minded" against a Christian for speaking up for the truth.

Getting back on topic, the facts remains that our Founding Fathers, though their intellectual honesty and curiosity may have led them to dabble into other lines of thought such as Deism (note Dennis, this is how you spell Deism), there was never the less a deliberate effort on their part to model our form of government upon the skeletal framework of the Jewish Tenakh and the Christian's Canonical, 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. This evidence, as pointed out be Lehaye, David Barton and many others that are now standing up for Christians in this day when anything goes in America -- except for Christianity and Judaism that is -- stands solidly upon the facts, not revisionism as we are so unrightfully being accused of.

Lehaye puts forth a noble effort to summarize a small sub-section from the plethora of facts that are available from which to draw ones research, and he defends the original intent of those who laid down their lives for religious freedom from state sponsored religion, such as the Anglican and Roman Catholic state religions that were in place throughout the nations that bordered the Mediterranean Sea at the time of our American Revolution from Great Britain. Today we see all around us events similar to those so vigorously opposed by founding fathers as they strove to build our nation upon Judeo-Christian moral principles and to insure the practice of these principles in complete freedom and liberty from a state mandated religion. Today the cancer that was once the rallying cry which motivated men and women to lay down their lives for freedom is again rearing its ugly head in the form of Secular Humanism, Macro-evolution, and the religion of Atheism - all modern examples of what our founding fathers so greatly feared and warned us would be the unraveling of our society if they were allowed to go unchallenged.

In case after case, our Supreme Court and founding fathers and other scholars who influenced the SC justices and national leaders, such as Blackstone in his various legal texts, continuously referred to the Biblical framework laid down since the beginning of time (as recorded in Hebrew historical writings), as their most preferred and ideal model for our system of government. A system of government that history shows served us quite well until it was thrown out by a rogue court in 1962. Since that day we have been reaping the rewards of our lackadaisical attitude toward our Creator and His will for any nation on earth that will chose to adhere to his will.

We had our faults, as we failed to apply scripture literally, such as inequality of slaves and the rights of women, but these were not faults caused by a Judeo-Christian system of government, but rather a failure to apply a Biblically correct world-view to our nations publicly championed moral structure. However, is spite of our flaws in terms of applying a Christ-like love of our neighbors and our spouses to our selves, it was not until we told God to get lost as a nation that we truly began to spiral out of control into the moral relativism that is so prevalent today.

Simplistic and Irritating
I work in the field of personality study, and I bought this book in the hope that I could recommend it to my clients. Unfortunately, I cannot.

I began this book with great expectations, unfortunately they were not fulfilled. I found that Tim LaHaye's conclusions left a lot to be desired. I was extremely annoyed at his propensity to make sweeping statements that were not backed up by any research or evidence, and I felt that his review of the four temperaments was simplistic and amateurish.

If I had lower self-esteem, I would have gone out and shot myself after reading the chapter on my personality type. This book has a very strong focus on the negative aspects of each of the four temperaments, which I found rather condemning.

A key aspect of personality study that is missed in this book is that each person displays characteristics of each of the four temperament types, but in varying degrees. Tim LaHaye's either/or approach misses this, and it results in gross generalisations.

There are much better books on temperament on the market, for instance "Understanding Your Child's Temperament" by William B. Carey. Although written from a parenting perspective, it can give you a good understanding of your own temperament if you read it with your own behaviour in mind. Also, try "The New Birth Order Book" by Dr. Kevin Leman, which looks at temperament from a different perspective. If you're stuck on Tim LaHaye, I would recommend "Understanding the Male Temperament," which deals with the four temperament types in a much more professional and well-rounded fashion. Although written with men in mind, the section on personality type is more general and will give you a better understanding than "Transformed Temperaments."

A Helpful book
I was recommended this book by Sam Laing because he told me that many men often don't know who they are. This book was helpful to help me see my own and other's personality types. It helped me to see them, which was great to get out of it, but that's it. Reading the book, I wasn't blown away and he doesn't get real deep either. Later, though I feel like I know the temperaments pretty well.
I recommend it for others, it's a good book. It has helped me deal with myself better and helped me see what the guys that I take care of need. And I think we will be closer because of it. I would like to see a disciple write a book about the four temperaments, though I think it's use can nullify the Bible. The Bible's all you need, but I guess like any other DPI book, it can help.

Two stories in one novel
After reading the previous nine installments of this series, I was really torn on how to review this one. By giving it only two stars I may invoke a negative reaction, however, I couldn't shake the feeling that the first 100 plus pages was a very drawn out and boring filler material until the book picks up in the second half.

After the cliffhanger in 9, I expected to delve right into action that wouldn't stop with only a few years left of the tribulation. Sadly, only the first few pages deal with the cliffhanger in Petra as we left the Antichrist Carpathia making a strike against those believers under God's protection.

Unfortunately, after this is quickly resolved the reader embarks on a very lengthy and unexciting rescue attempt of a character George who is being held by the GC. Chloe, Mac and one other Trib force member decide to rescue him and while everything is under God's plan, it just seemed to me that there was so much fake dialogue and convenient holes in the rescue attempt I often fought the urge to skip ahead. It was this tangent made me feel that this was a separate novel altogether.

With that said, fortunately, the story does pick up, though time advances quite a bit. The sides are pretty much drawn up at this point, those believers who evangelize for God, and those that are loyal supporters of the Antichrist. While Carpathia has a smaller role in this book, his madness and evils become more apparent. He can't grasp that the 'curses' that are opened up on the earth are the judgments of God and tries to convince the populace that these things will pass, that his scientists are working on cures. Water is in short supply, and after another year into the tribulation so-called GC loyalists are starting to have second thoughts about Carpathia. There is even rumor that certain regions wish to defect as the world plunges into further chaos.

The Tribulation force on the other hand receive some assurances from the Lord. They seem to be protected from certain earthly ailments and judgments, and are provided for in miraculous ways. There are more sightings of angels and miracles, however, God is indeed allowing the balancing of the scales. Carpathia, not to be outdone sends out his own 'cultists' who perform 'miracles' in his name, however, with a hidden agenda...a quick slaying of those that have yet to decide.

Towards the tail end of the novel there are some interesting and frightful descriptions of events that are unfolding, and I personally think this is the meat and potatoes of this novel, not the filler material upfront.

Remnant ends with the Lord plunging the world into darkness and it's just about 6 years into the tribulation.

Is the book's purpose to please man or God?
I am a born-again, spirit-filled believer and I have been diving into every single book by LaHaye and Jenkins. The first book was so good that I couldn't put it down. Others such as Tribulation Force and Nicolae, didn't appeal to me as much, neither did The Indwelling. I continued to read every series, however and I enjoyed reading both Assasins and Desecration. As a result, I was looking forward to The Remnant. And it did not disappoint.
I will admit, it took me a while to finish this book because it was quite boring in the beginning. However after you get past the first few chapters, the book definitely takes off. I read 200 pages in the last three days and finished the book last night.
Each of the remaining characters getting into one situation after another and I could get a clear picture of the chaos that was described. From the time of the bowls of wrath, I was flipping my Bible to Revelations 16, while I was reading the book.
People, you need to enjoy the book for what it is...Christian non-fiction. This as well as the other series are just two men's interpretation of the end times. If you don't agree, fine. They never claimed to know detail-by-detail what was going to happen. The most important thing is that through these books, they have been able to convince people to give their hearts to the Lord. Regardless if they're dead wrong, people are thinking, people are continuing to read these book series and people are accepting God's precious gift of salvation.

God Bless LaHaye and Jenkins and I hope that each book fulfills God's purpose.

The continuing story of those Left Behind...
After reading "Conquest of Paradise" by Britt Gillette, I was instantly turned on to biblical end times literature, and I quickly began reading the Left Behind series. From book one, I was totally hooked, and I've read up through book ten in less than a couple of weeks.

In "The Remnant", LaHaye and Jenkins return with the popular adventures of the Tribulation Force and the evil rule of Nicolae Carpathia. The setting is one month into the Great Tribulation, and Carpathia's rule becomes ever more brutal with each passing day. A remnant of Christian believers gathers together in the city of Petra to await the Glorious Appearing of the Lord, and the Global Community quickly bombs the city in an attempt to finish them off. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens next, but true fans will not be disappointed as the authors continue to weave a thrilling tale. Only two more left!

I can't wait to find out what happens next, and how the authors deal with the battle of Armageddon. I look forward to reading books eleven and twelve, and I encourage other Left Behind fans to pick up "Conquest of Paradise: An End-Times Nano-Thriller" as additional reading. That book got me interested in this series, and what a great book! What "Left Behind" lacks in realism, "Conquest of Paradise" adds in abundance. The prose is much more advanced and the international politics are identical to the current world scene and the war on terror. Peppered with biblical verses, "Conquest of Paradise" will turn even the most hardened skeptics into believers, or at least it will make them think twice. It's one lovers of end-times fiction shouldn't miss.

Book eleven, "Armageddon" continues the adventures of the Tribulation Force, and the armies of the world will gather together at that fabled location long ago inscribed into our minds by Biblical prophecy. Can't wait to read the rest!

Misinformed, hateful, and disgusting.
This book is ridiculous. The basic premise is flawed. This country was founded on the idea of the separation of church and state. While many of the Founding Fathers were Christians in their private lives, they were Secular Humanists in their public lives. Secular Humanists haven't taken over this country; they are the reason this country exists, are the people who wrote our Constitution and Declaration of Independence, and are the true patriotic Americans.

It is far-right fundamentalists loonies like LaHaye and his ilk who are threatening to take over the country and who want to distort its origins.

A scary look at the Religous Right
I purchased a used copy of this book because I thought it might provide some insight into the minds of Christian Fundamentalists in the US. If that is your reason for buying this book, then you will not be disappointed. Trying to identify a redeeming feature of this book was difficult, but I guess if the book has one, it is to alert rational citizens about the loony thought processes of many on the Religious Right. This book contains the paranoid brayings of its two willfully ignorant authors who, incredibly, blame all the world's problems on secular humanists. It is a collection of wild unsubstantiated assertions, blatantly transparent misrepresentations and terribly misunderstood science, written by two people who vigorously resist being dragged into the nineteenth century. In their simplistic black and white world of good and evil, there is no place for rational thought. More worrisome are their urgent and repeated calls for political activism. Even a cursory inspection of our current political landscape reveals that they and their ilk have already enjoyed a considerable degree of success.

In short, this book is quite alarming. If you do contemplate purchasing this book, buy a used copy so as not to create any new demand. I'll reluctantly give this book one star only because I can't give it less, but that's still one star more than it deserves.

Right on the money
This book exposes the secular humanist takeover of American society and describes its infiltration into nearly all areas of American culture. The book is thoroughly referenced and well organized. Some of the humanist ideas that Dr. LaHaye discusses would be hard to believe except for the fact that these ideas come directly from humanist propaganda! Other reviewers have indicated that most of the ideas in this book are overblown. This vewipoint can only be adopted if one is willing completely ignore the role that Christianity had in the founding of this country. One only needs to read the inscriptions at the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials, to read about the personal lives of the founding fathers (the real stories, not the ones presented in school textbooks which portray them as atheists), to compare the structure of our Constitution to the Old Testament books of Law to see Christianity's influence on America. Of course, the idea that Christianity was the basis of this country sounds very foreign to many members of today's society; hence the importance of this book. A primary criticism of this book is that it is an attack on tolerance and diversity, 'the very essence for which our country stands.' I agree with Dorothy Sayers' definition of the term tolerance as it is used in today's politically correct environment: 'the sin the believes in nothing, cares for nothing, seeks to know nothing, interferes with nothing, enjoys nothing, hates nothing, finds purpose in nothing, lives for nothing, and remains alive because there is nothing for which it will die.' If we continue to sit back and let humanism continue its takeover, we will quickly progress to the scenario described at the beginning of the book.

I concur!
I agree with the reviewer from Williamsport. This book badly and misrepresents the Rave culture. I had encountered people who had died, but it was because they had drowned in the sea. The point is, there is a perspective of these raves as something entirely evil, with young people going off to get high. I have been to about 30 raves in the past year, and I am new, but from what I have encountered in EVERY rave, is yes, a general consumption of narcotics but a culture that is devised on peace and respect (or the infamous saying, Peace Love Unity and Respect - P.L.U.R.)... I think the author should have truly done some actual research, for instance, stay and have gone to over 10 raves, because the author would have found a greater understanding of what a rave truly is. The consumption of drugs, also, is absolutely biased. There are those who do consume drugs, others, such as myslef do not. I have not consumed any drugs since the last 10 raves, and I believe it is more rewarding. In any case, the book should have gone more indepth with the Rave culture, done more research, even do some interviews, because, again I agree with the reviewer from Williamsport, this book is basically to scare of the naive and ignorant.

Couldn't put it down!!
Whatever you do, don't start reading this book . . . unless you plan to finish it in one reading. It's excellent!!

As for the whiners who have spent far too much time stoned at rave parties to be objective about the problem, I say take off your glo-stick, remove the pacifier from your mouth, come up for some fresh air and get a clue.

Even Oprah and Dateline have featured in-depth stories on the widespread abuses in the rave scene. No question, this is a well-researched book that's right on target. LaHaye and DeMoss not only deliver the goods, they've created a page turner worth every penny.

My favorite characters were Reverand Bud and those two BAAAAAD Russian dudes. DeMoss and LaHaye are All the Rave in my book!

very good
I found this to be an excellent book. There seems to have been a lot of research put into this novel. The person that wrote that other review seems to be a little convicted. There are so many deaths, directly or indirectly, linked to raves. Armed with just a search engine I was able to find dozens of news articles relating to the deaths of ravers. So it seems as though the guy that wrote that other review is just oblivious to the fact that raves really can be dangerous, and in some cases, deadly. I commend the author of this book. It was very interesting and very informative. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

The kids in this book were good kids. So they were wild. Who wasn't wild at that age. God, you should have seen me. The moral of this review is, let and let live, and don't push your hokey christian stuff on kids.

This is going to happen people!
...I have the whole series written so far (to book #28), and I don't have time to write a review to all.
This is probably my favorite of all of them.
Anyway, Vicki and Judd must hide from the GC (Vicki being blamed for a murder that she didn't commit, and Judd from escaping from a GC prison). Lionel works inside and tries to help them.
If you are a Christian (and I pray that everyone WOULD be), GET THIS SERIES!

Great book!
Don't listen to what anyone wrote and read the book and decide for yourself. Personaly it is worth reading!

bias in place of facts and good sense
This book is so colored by its vehement anti-Catholicism that in many places LaHaye completely digresses from the topic of Revelation and the End Times. LaHaye compares the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe with the ancient cults of Babylon, and supports his comparison using an apocryphal story about Nimrod--quite a leap for someone who claims to base his beliefs on the "Bible alone!" Of course he has every right to interpret the Bible however he sees fit (or however makes him the most profit), but know that almost every "fact" he gives about Catholics is an unsubstantiated lie.

It doesn't get any better than this!
Of all the the books I've read on Revelation, this is by far the best one yet. Tim Lahaye has done a fine job of making the book of Revelation simple. There were some finer points in the book I couldn't agree but at least he's willing to admit that not everyone will agree with those finer details. If you don't understand Revelation, get this book! Revelation is a favorite of mine in the Bible. Stephen King couldn't put together the horrors that will happen in the end times! Accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior today and begin your walk with Him, not just to escape the coming world events but because He will change your life. Tim Lahaye stresses that in his book and I couldn't agree more.

One of the best Book of Revelation reference guides...
Tim LaHaye's "Revelation Unveiled" is one of the best Book of Revelation commentaries and reference books on the market today. It focuses specifically on the end-times prophecies of the Book of Revelation and offers a more scholarly interpretation of the figurative language and symbolism than you'll find in some of LaHaye's other books, such as "Are We Living In the End Times?" and "Perhaps Today". (Both of which are written in layman's terms and are good books themselves).

"Revelation Unveiled" chronologically examines the Bible's most enigmatic book from the Epistles to the Seven Churches on through the Great Tribulation and on to the New Millennium. Along the way, LaHaye dissects specific passages, unraveling some of the difficulty for those of us who lack his thorough theological background. I found this book indispensable to my increased understanding of this last and important book in the Bible. This is a book definitely worth the reader's time and interest.
