If you don't have time to read through all the 'Left Behind' books try this book as a shortcut to the last days and the signs of the times. Some events mentioned in the book have soon passed. But they do give close to a pinpoint prediction where we are in the prophecy timetable. Since September 11, 2001 begins the countdown what soon maybe the End Time. Another source suggestion is 'War on Terror' by Grant Jeffery. He explains the meaning of the catastropic events and how they fit into the End Time prophecy.

Combining fiction with a modern interpretation of Revelations(a book in the Holy Bible), the reader is taken on a journey with the Tribulation Force(a core group of new believers)
in the time of the seven-year tribulation. A time of many challenges, suffering, devastation, false hopes, death and light at the end of the tunnel for some of the human race, in the time preceding the Second Coming of Christ.
Those who already believed are gone. Those Left Behind face the choice of giving themselves to Christ and being saved while suffering the consequences served by man through Satan, or following Satan and suffering the consequences served by God. The final battle between good and evil is taking shape. The time to choose is NOW.
This series offers story-telling at its finest. I felt a wide range of emotions through the well developed characters and story line. I felt sympathy and empathy with the characters as if they were real.
A great story of how things could be that can be appreciated by believers and non-believers alike. Well worth its weight in gold.
Ok,First of all,I'm NOT one of those people who give this book good reviews because I'm hooked on the series,I actually have something to say!
I will admit that I agree that these books may be easy to read, but that does not make the story less exiting!

1. Left behind- The Tale of the Earths Last Days.

Their new headquarters needs a better explanation. Either it has a roof with solar cells, or it doesn't. If it has been cut in half, how can a helicopter land on it? The hero, Capt. Steele, was left as a simpering, indecisive leader. How and why did this happen?
I found it long on detail, but not the helpful kind. Get it and read it, but don't have high expectations.
The tribulation force is now scattered and facing several dangerous challenges. The battle between the tribulation force and the Global Community Forces take place in several different areas:
*Rayford must escape Isreal while giving himself a spiritual inventory.
*Tsion Ben-Judah gets a glimpse of battle in the spiritual realm through a series of dreams.
*David, Annie, Mac and Abdullah are on the front lines of the war as they battle for the tribulation force right under the enemies nose
*Buck Williams investigates the mysterious disappearance of Chaim Rosenweig
*Leah runs into another believer who has an inside track on Hattie's location
All of these subplots initially develop separately as communication between the body of believers is temporarily severed. They then come together and the plot climaxes as Fortunato seems to gain more political and supernatural power. Does Satan take possession of Carpathia's body and ressurect it? This question is answered near the explosive end of the book.
Tim LaHaye's and Jerry Jenkins' talent for excellent character development and incessantly intriguing story lines is manifested in this book. You must be patient and appreciate the details in order to fully enjoy it. The authors know how to tease you enough so that you keep reading. Although a lot of question are answered in this book of the series, it creates new questions that will make the reader hungry for the next book "The Mark!"

That said, I do keep reading the books, though thanks to the American library system, I have not had to shell out a dime for the privilege. Though thin on substance, the first books did have enough meat to be occasionally satisfying. That hardly seems true of the last books, which seem to have hit some sort of time dilation mode where one book can spend hundreds of pages chronicling a few dull days.
What's wrong with these books? For one, outrageous premises. Knowing the level of rabidity of American gun enthusiasts, who could imagine US citizens (militias excluded) eagerly acceding to the removal of 90% of our weaponry? We're a paranoid bunch! We spend more money on arms than the next ten countries combined, and we are still afraid of being outmatched. Yet in Left Behind, we give it all away --- to the UN, of all groups! It's not that this is an impossible scenario, but Lahaye and Jenkins don't even bother to acknowledge the problem.
And wouldn't it be interesting if L&J were more up front with which of our planet's 6 billion souls would not make the cut into the 1 billion who are saved? Why not fess up that practically all Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims would land in hell? How about having Tsion put that in his pipe and smoke it? Did the Muslim children get raptured? Do Christians who were left behind still continue to their pathetic church attendance, not realizing that they are the "wrong" kind of Christians? And how about the wholesale, unimaginative ripoff of the Bible, as when Tsion has a dream that is taken straight out of Revelation 12? Couldn't the mark of the Beast have been something more original than the tired, old computer implanted scenario? And how about a little work convincing the reader that implanting the mark in hand or forehead wouldn't be a colossal tip-off, even to the biblically illiterate?
This entire series is bloated, lazy and offensive. I have been skimming along, hoping for imaginative treatment of the Apocalypse. Yet now that I am 8 books into the series, I'm afraid that even skipping the dreary parts is becoming an exercise in futility. It's really a feat to make the end of the world seem so tedious.
By the way, it's awful to see the supposedly Christian heroes of this series act in such an ungospel manner. Except for the imbecilic Hattie Durham, there is barely a whit of caring for the throngs of the damned. Steele realizes that Carpathia is about to vaporize a whole city, and all he worries about is that his own family makes it out. Steele nurses vengeance against the Antichrist without even an editorial tsk-tsk from the authors. I guess "turn the other cheek" went out the window after the Rapture.
Hint to L&J: read a little less of Revelation and a lot more of the Gospels!
In "The Mark", LaHaye and Jenkins continue their unique view of the prophesied end-times. Having been assassinated in book six, and indwelled by the devil in book seven, antichrist Nicolae Carpathia counterfeits the resurrection when he rises from the dead after three days. The world stands in awe and begins to worship Carpathia as a god, giving birth to a new religion known as "Carpathianism"! Followers of Nicolae must be branded with a loyalty mark on their right hand or forehead, and those who refuse it are put to death. "The Mark" is one of the more gripping and edge-of-your-seat thrillers in the series. It will cause you to empathize with the characters, questioning whether you would accept the mark given similar circumstances.
I can't wait to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading books eight through twelve, and I encourage other Left Behind fans to pick up "Conquest of Paradise: An End-Times Nano-Thriller" as additional reading. That book got me interested in this series, and what a great book! What "Left Behind" lacks in realism, "Conquest of Paradise" adds in abundance. The prose is much more advanced and the international politics are identical to the current world scene and the war on terror. Peppered with biblical verses, "Conquest of Paradise" will turn even the most hardened skeptics into believers, or at least it will make them think twice. It's one lovers of end-times fiction shouldn't miss.
Book nine, "Desecration" continues the adventures of the Tribulation Force, and deals with the antichrist's desecration of the Jewish Temple long ago foretold by Jesus and the Old and New Testament prophets. Can't wait to read the rest!

I've read Left Behind from book one through nine even though every time I picked up one of the books I'd scratch my head and ask, 'Why can't these guys write a better story? Aren't they aware that their portrayal of the Tribulation is so flawed it makes Christians look like mental midgets and real losers?' But still I read. Then I saw several of the reviews (like this one) talking about how much better The Christ Clone Trilogy is than Left Behind. I wasn't too sure I wanted to start another series about the end times, but I figured at least there are only three books, and I was desperate for something better. I went in with only moderate expectations of The Christ Clone Trilogy, but I had no idea what I was in for. I was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY! Do yourself a BIG favor. See for yourself.
In "Desecration", LaHaye and Jenkins move the story of the Great Tribulation forward as the resurrected Nicolae Carpathia begins an unhindered campaign of murder in his kingdom of evil. The first two bowls of wrath from the Book of Revelation are poured out upon the earth, water turns into blood, and sores break out on people across the earth. At the height of his godless rebellion, Carpathia desecrates the Temple in Jerusalem by proclaiming himself to be god. As the world fights to overcome his rule, the Tribulation Force must deal with the greater problems of the world as well as their own personal problems. This is a great continuation of the overall series. Fans will not be let down...

I am still discovering new things and learning a lot. For me the charts present an easy way to view and digest the information.
However, if the product details had explained that the book included a pullout version of the chart`Understanding God`s plan for the Ages`, I would NOT have purchased this as an additional item at the time I bought the book itself.
As the series continues, so does the level of my reservation. It appears to this parent that the authors are increasingly engaging in the trivialization of an extremely serious subject; namely leading souls to Christ. Whether one accepts pre-tribulation, pre-millenial dispensationalism or not (and I do not) the End of Time is not going to be a time of comic-book adventure. It will be deadly serious -- and the longer this series progresses, the more I wonder if this is properly realized.
To reiterate my position:
I believe in presenting the truth to my children to the best of my ability -- and I well know that I am a flawed and imperfect vessel.
This means the truth of the Bible -- not the opinion of an extreme minority, even if that minority has achieved a certain millenial popularity.
This means the truth of Church History -- warts and all. When Church History is honestly portrayed, one quickly sees that it is not 2000 years of "Bible-believers vs. Roman Catholics" but rather 2000 years of good and evil, truth and error, advances and retreats -- but always pressing onward toward the Kingdom.
This means the truth of Secular History -- and understanding that for most of the last 2000 years, there was no distinction between Church and Secular History!
This means the truth of what comprises good literature vs. poor literature -- and this series increasingly does not represent the quality of material I want my children to handle. I realize that all children learn differently, especially when it comes to reading. This being said, I want my children to stretch beyond their preconceived limitations. The quality of these books certainly does not stretch the limits of what the 9-12
age-group is capable of.
Truth is frequently painful and sometimes scary.
HOWEVER, I do NOT believe in deliberately frightening children into accepting or rejecting a particular opinion or viewpoint. It appears to this parent that such religious "scare tactics" are precisely what is being engaged in with these books.
My children know about heaven and hell. They know what it requires to end up in either of those destinations. They understand that hell is a pretty scary place. But I choose to teach them in a positive, rather than in a negative vein. Being "scared straight" is imperfect contrition. Granted, it beats no contrition at all -- but it results in fear rather than love.
This is what this series appears to accomplish: salvation through fear, rather than salvation through acceptance of the love of the God of Love. (Not to mention a disregard for the legitimacy of other Christian traditions.)
Parents, pay attention to what your children read. Teach them about the love of God, not only through your words but through the example of your life. But don't try to frighten them into the Kingdom.
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."
When I began reading this book, I was a little hazy on what had happened in the previous books. I still remembered the major events, but some minor events of importance I was lost on. I didn't remember a couple of the characters (ones that had been recently introduced). After 50 pages I remembered what I needed to and the context filled me in on the rest and the story started to really get going.
I've noticed complaints about the actions of some characters. The only one who I think acted out of character was Chloe. Her actions at the beginning of the book were both stupid, and I think a little out of character. It served the plot, though, so we can gloss over it. There were some surprises in character action near the end, but these were explained well enough that I don't feel as if they were misplaced.
The usual complaints about the series apply to this book. The quality of writing is not that great, I still have problems with naming one of the primary characters "Buck", and much of the books seem to be heavy handed. However, when I'm reading the book I forget all about that and I can't put it down. There is something incredibly compelling about the Left Behind series. Maybe it is seeing God take such a prominent role in a popular novel. Maybe it is just how quickly and easily the series reads, but there is something about it that makes me want to keep reading and gets me involved in the story. Maybe it is God working through these books, if such a thing is possible.
The story begins late in the Tribulation. A plague of darkness and pain is on the city of New Babylon, the capitol of the Anti-Christ, Nicolae Carpathia. There are questions of whether or not the Safe House is still safe and Chloe Steele-Williams gets captured by the GC (Global Community) troops. Believers must get out of New Babylon as God's further judgment is coming. As the book progresses, the story jumps several months and the final judgments from Revelation are unleashed. More than one major character is killed in this book, so there is some shakeup going on in the cast of characters. Which ones and in what way I will leave for the reader to find out.
I am not blind to the flaws and faults of this series, but as I read the books, the flaws and faults simply do not matter. I won't pretend that these should win awards for the craft of writing, though. I think that one reason why the Left Behind books are so compelling (this one included) is that we get to see one possible interpretation of how the Book of Revelation may play out. I am a Christian, so I do believe that Revelation is true, but I don't claim to have any interpretation of it myself nor do I believe that this is necessarily the correct interpretation. It does help in imagining the End Times, though. The next book is to be the last book, and I am curious as to how Jenkins will write the second coming of Christ (LaHaye is the theologian, Jenkins the author).

Many authors have an annoying habit of becoming dogmatic about issues better left to speculation (such as date-setting, or the identity of the anti-Christ), but this book never does that. It simply provides solid Scriptural support for all it's assertions, while sticking to a literal appropach to prophecy sure to please fundamental Christians, or (even more importantly) to edify those seeking the truth who haven't yet found it.
This book is sprightly but respectfully written. It is certainly not deep or complex theologically. It was designed to be read by your average "Joe." It is an excellent complement to Hal Lindsey's books about the Rapture which concentrate more on the biblical explanations and history of church teaching on the topic. Strandberg and James do make excellent use of shaded areas of some pages that allow readers, who are interested to take side trips to particular parts of the bible, to study for themselves that the Rapture is coming and probably sooner than anyone knows.
The book is certainly a witnessing tool for non-believers today; however the book is also addressed to those "left behind." The book anticipates that the Rapture of believers will be the biggest media event of all time. There will be hysteria, panic and a bevy of experts on CNN, FOX and the major networks attempting to provide explanations and answers to grief-stricken, confused people. The book candidly explains what the Book of Revelation foretells about world events coming for these people left behind. Yet, promises from the bible are detailed for those who believe despite persucution. Instructions are clear that one left behind must not accept the mark and worship of the coming world leader.
I pray this book gathers a wide audience. As for me, I plan to leave a copy of the book in my office in the hope one of my co-workers will find it after the Rapture. With the peace efforts by President Bush in the Middle East right now, I have goose pimples that the prophecies of Daniel, Ezekiel, Zechariah and the Apostle John are so rapidly unfolding right before our eyes.
Todd and Terry have found an unique way to continue their ministry even after they are no longer physically here after the Rapture. Thank you Todd and Terry, not only for the book but also the website that provides even more information:
I read your updates once or twice a week and it encourages my Christian walk to focus on the blessed hope those who will leave in the Rapture have. God bless.
The Bible is either true, or it isn't.
Some proofs in favor of the Bible being true and the existance
of God are as follows:
1) You can calculate Israels return to the exact MONTH and YEAR
from the time of the end of their Babylonian exile. Do you
homework, the research is out there to verify for yourself.
2) The Babylonian King in Daniel 2 had a vision of a statue
made of different metals for different body parts.
Daniel's interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream outlines the
further history of Gentile world power. The 4 metals of the
statue represent 4 future world empires:
(1) Babylon (Jer. 51:7) - The Head of Gold
(2) Medo-Persia - Left-Right Arms & Chest Of Silver
(3) Greece under Alexander - Belly Thighs Of Bronze
(4) East-West Rome. - Left-Right Legs Of IRON.
Then then much later(after a very long time apparently) these
legs continue into the ten toes, a confederacy made up
largely of European nations (Dan. 7:24-27).
These toes are made of IRON (a fragment of the Roman Empire)
and CLAY (man).
Coincidence? I think not.
3) Jesus made reference to Solomons temple in the end times in
Matt 24 which did not exist along with Israel as a nation after
70 A.D. when the Roman Empire destroyed Jerusalem. As of 1948,
Israel is back, and so will Solomons temple when the Antichrist
steps onto the seen. Jesus was making reference to a passage
in Daniel, when the Antichrist sits in the rebuilt temple.
Are you Rapture Ready?
This book explains it all, and why you should be
"looking up" in expectation for Christ.
But wait.. wasn't all of these points written "after
the fact"?
No. We have in our posession today the ORIGINAL copies of
the Greek Old Testament which pre-dated Christ by 300 years.
Carbon dating is good within 6-10 thousand years, so it's a
safe bet, it's legit.. especially when you got 3 copies.
Do your homework.
This stuff all checks out.
The real question is. DO YOU WANT TO BELIEVE.
This book is an excellent starting book.
Todd's site, was my introduction to the Rapture and his
book nicely ties together all of the articles posted to
it over the years.
I highly recommend it.
If you've read any of the left behind series, or wish to
start, this book is an excellent introduction as well.
THIS IS HAPPENING FOR REAL.
When does it happen? We don't know because the bible says
we cannot know the DAY or the HOUR. But we can know the
SEASON, as Jesus makes reference to Israel in Matt 24 as a
figtree in bloom once again in the end time. He also said
that THIS (the Generation that witnesses it's blooming - or
rebirth - would by no means pass away until all these things
come to pass).
That "generation" Jesus was referring to is the Baby Boomer
Generation who witnessed Israels return in 1948.
Just one more reason to be Rapture Ready.
