Describes Emmy and Max' first encounter with DragonLand
This was perfect for my 5 year old Dragon Tales fan. It describes how they found the dragon scale, how the dragon scale got there in the first place, how they learned how to get back home.

My only complaint is that I grew tired of reading it - there isn't very much depth here. And the story doesn't have anyone overcoming a personal challenge, which is the recurring theme in Dragon Tales. But my fan was very happy with it.

Good monster book!
This book is a good book if you enjoy the genre. Justine Korman expands on the movie and this is a good read if you're looking for a short monster story.

One of My 4 Year Old Tonka Nut's Favorite Books.
Although it's a pretty thin book, it's packed with great illustrations and writing. One of my four year old's favorite books.

Yucky Bunny is more like it
You know, just because a book is written for children doesn't make it a good children's book. This edition in the "Grumpy Bunny" series is saved only by the illustrations, because the story is lame beyond words--it hardly makes sense, like most of the books in this horrible series. Parents, pass on anything written by Justine Korman...a hack is a hack.

Sweet, simple story with charming pictures
This is the third book I've read in this series and I really enojyed it. The story is simple, yet sweet, and the pictures are wonderful. I really like the details in Lucinda McQueen's illustrations. And Hopper the Grumpy Bunny is very comical.

Don't Buy this Book!
I have a 3-year-old son who LOVES trucks. We have LOTS of truck books. Unfortunately, someone gave him this book as a gift, and IT IS TERRIBLE! For starters, the truck in all of the illustrations is NOT a backhoe! The text describes the bulldozer-like attachment, but the pictures never show it! There is no logic to the book at all. The kid rides in the cab of the moving truck to his new house. Where do the movers sit? When they arrive, he goes out to play, and a hard hat suddenly materializes on his head. The boys next door are rude to him for no reason, then decide he "knows his trucks" and invite him over to play. Who would want to play with the rude kids next door? The story stinks and the illustrations are even worse. Obviously there was no editor involved in this project. Tonka is just trying to make a quick buck and hopes you'll be the next sucker. In the author's defense, the information about the backhoe is well written, but that doesn't help the story, and I wonder if the illustrator even read the text.

Tonka Working Hard With the Mighty Backhoe
Do you know a child who loves trucks and tractors? Then this is a GREAT BOOK! My son just loves it! Wonderful story and teaches how the backhoe really operates in a language that children understand.

Disney , of course
Adapted from the Disney animated film of Hercules. I can't help but be amused by it. I know, I know - it's pap, pulp and historically bunk. But then I don't have a huge issues with modern interpretations, or even inspiration from the classics (legends anyway). After all, I love Xena on the tube!

If you've ever seen a Disney adaptation, you get the idea. Cheaply produced, and dirt cheap to buy. These books are found in supermarket check-out queues. And why not! If they encourage adult/child closeness in the act of reading, that's a good thing. If they encourage the independent emerging reader to "have a go", then why not?

Oh, dear, now I might as well admit I even like the PlayStation game based on Disney's barrel-chested muscleman in the cute pleated skirt! END

Overall a cute book, but does not hold interest for the entire length. Illustrations are cute. They show dogs dressed up in clothing.

An okay book
This book didn't go into very much detail. I read it in a short amount of time. Since I'm 12 I didn't like it too much but it could make a good gift for a younger kid who likes dinosaurs. I would prefer the Jurassic Park III Junior Novelization or the Jurassic Park III Movie Storybook. Still, the pictures in this book were pretty cool.

Working Hard With the Mighty Crane
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (1999)
Authors: Justine Korman and Steven James Petruccio
Amazon base price: $10.80
Average review score:

A complete miss!!!
This book attempts to explain the function of a mobile crane by comparing it to a live crane, fishing, and bowling. If you are using a metaphor to teach something, you'd better make sure that the student knows what the metaphor is. Most children aged 4 or less have never seen a live crane (bird), have never gone fishing and may not have gone bowling. It's a complete miss.

The truth is that there is no need to explain how the crane works. This kids get it. What they need to know and love are the details.

A complete miss!

Even parents will learn something new
Working Hard with the Mighty Crane, as with the rest of the series, is informative yet interesting. It has made a relatively "dry" subject surprisingly appetising and makes you want to learn more. Should be of interest not only to little boys. Even parents will learn something new in reading the book to kids.

Rex to the Rescue needs help
My third-grade son read this book and summed it up, "The movie was better." The book followed the story from the movie, but it was dull and unimaginative. I expected that it would be colorfully written, with some humor, but it was just plain boring. Also, it is way too easy for 9-12 year olds.
