Not a very good book
Used it at U of IL for two courses, a basic intro to EM, and a more advanced course in fields transmission lines. For the purposes of an introductory EM class this book is horrible, look elsewhere. Not enough examples and very difficult to read. For the purposes of a more advanced class, it is adequate, but not great.

a bit advanced, designed for graduate level
This book starts off pretty well, I had taken 3 semesters of calculus when I started on this book in my undergrad Electromagnetics class. All of a sudden, there are concepts like phasors, sine theory, 3-d calculus that come at you like a ton of bricks. This book is definitely for Masters and PhD students, not for undergrads. The author assumes the reader knows too much, which is why he should have named it "Advanced Electromagnetics Engineering" or something like that. The examples in the book are few and far between, and they're all too similar, there's no variety in the examples. They are just too bland!! I gave it 3 stars because the author does hae a section where he goes over basic calc used in the book, and that kind of helps, but he obviously couldn't put in tons of review or else it would be a calc book! BAsically, if you use this book, you better have a solid background in calc and electromagnetics, or you're in for a long semester!

Good book
I do not subscribe to the view that this book is unreadable, almost useless etc.

This is a good book, in fact it is an excellent book. It is just that the subject itself is quite high in complexity that makes people hate this and/or any other text on the same subject.

This book is not for beginners though. Certainly not. And it is best used over a two-semester course.

For beginners, Basic Electromagnetics with Applications by the same author will be useful.

C++ Neural Networks and Fuzzy Logic

Bad and code is useless
I'm sorry, this book is nearly useless. I'm a vetern C++ programmer and I tried to create a fuzzy logic system from the concepts and code in this book and it didn't work out at all. At first I blamed myself then I found some other fuzzy logic books and realized that no, this book just wasn't able to articulate the concepts in a meaningful way. The Neural net code was even worse. I wanted a cook book, do this, get a simple net, do this get a simple fuzzy logic system, now take what you learned and make a real one. Nope.

They do go over the AI terms and types of Neural nets and I did learn something by reading about it but not enough to justify the price of the book.

Unclear concepts and unclear code.
I was very dissappointed with this book. I liked the idea of having the theory of neural networks and fuzzy logic with examples in C++ code. Unfortunately, the book is poorly written. The theory behind neural networks and fuzzy logic is not explained well with quite a bit of unexplained jargin. The C++ code is usable but not well done. I felt that the C++ code should be secondary to the explanations anyway, but it would have been nice to see good code. I recommend against getting this book.

Good book
This book is excellent introduction to theory and practical application of neural networks and fuzzy logic.
I know that for sure because I was totaly illiterate in that topic before I red it.
This book requires some prerequisite knowledge from reader.
Reader must have at least average undergraduate knowledge of discrete matematics, probability theory and matrix algebra.

I saw from previous reviews that some "good" C++ programmers expects to learn all that mathematics from one 500 pages book.
I think that would be impossible even for a perfect neural network.

I'm afraid I'll be in trouble:)
I am a mechanical engineering senior student, and my undergraduate project is to prepare a visual computer program about plasticating screws, including the ones given in this book...I think the programs in the book are worthless unless somebody rearrange the inputs and outputs...

Data Transportation and Protection (Applications of Communications Theory)
Published in Hardcover by Plenum Pub Corp (1986)

More theoretical than practical
We had this book for the course in data transportation and protection taught by the author himself, Yarlagadda. The book provides you with sound mathematical background for techniques used in encryption etc. It covers all the mathematical aspects of Markov chain processes, public key encryption, cryptography etc.

It was just too boring for me but was a required course in a way .

Yarlagadda has a lot of practical experience working for US defense projects in commmunications but he wasn't able to transform that knowledge either in his books or lecture (or slides should I say!)

A great book to stick in the fireplace...
This is not a begginers book at all. From the first chapter the author assumes you know about Oracle's architecture. I had no idea what he was talking about. Don't waste your time and money with this bbok. Oracle DBA 101 is hands-down the best book for novice and beginners.

please do not waste your money buying this book
This book is the most hopeless book i have ever encountered ever since i started reading oracle books.I have over 50 oracle books and this book is the worst of all.The book is not organized at all,and it lacks detailed information in all of the topics. It made so many assumptions even though it says it is for beginners.A much better book for beginners in my opinion is oracle dba 101 by marlene theriault.

Simply Awful
Miserably typeset with all the look of having been printed with an antique moveable-type press. Parts of sentences are missing or illegible, and many characters are broken or smudged. Additionally, the Devanangari letters are tiny which makes it very difficult for someone unfamiliar with the alphabet to learn them. The chapters are poorly laid out both internally and as a sequence. Additionally, while I was hoping for something more 'correct' than the usual phrasebook rubbish, the language in the book is academic enough as to make my hindi-speaking friends lapse into reciting lessons from their school days.

Muddy print and missing letters
In Varanasi, cheap, shoddy hotels take the names of good hotels in hopes of luring unwary customers. In much the same way this book lured me in: I bought it thinking it was part of the "Teach Yourself" book series, but it's definitely not.

This book is a disaster. The type is muddy and hard to read, which would be bad enough in an English text. When a few of the letters in a pronunciation key are obscured, or when pieces of Hindi letters are missing, it's nearly impossible to work with. And not only is the printing egregiously bad, there are actually missing letters, so that you have the sentence, "would be pronounced as ee" -- with nothing at the beginning!

Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this miserable excuse for a Hindi textbook.

Useless book
Better to read daily articles in indian news websites . They do better job in criticizing Hindus in India. This book tries to do the same but failed in convincing arguments. In anycase, IF you are pseudo secular or anti hindu , you will get some arguments for your discussion. If you have some sense , you will laugh at this book and throw it out (Or resale it )
