End of Torment can be viewed as an indepth clarification of Hermione. The book (or journal) was written at the time of Pound's hospitalization, and Hilda has a lot to say about her ex. However, HD still has her way with words (or play on words) and symbolic imagery, which can make this read a sweat. Nevertheless, it still is beautiful poetry and should not be overlooked. Also included is Hilda's archive of Pound's priceless poems.

The notes and translations in this edition lend themselves to easy comprehension by the scholar, reader, and actor. Although somewhat too insistent on character motivations, Ewans and the other translators provide a thorough understanding of the conventions of the ancient drama and a perfectly workable, exciting text ready for staging. Although I occasionally disagree with some of Ewans' characterizations (particularly Kreon), he skillfully reinterprets these powerful tales for today's audiences and readers.

Gesta Regum Anglorum: The History of the English Kings (Oxford Medieval Texts)
Published in Hardcover by Clarendon Pr (1998)
Amazon base price: $180.00
Average review score:

Any medievalist will undoubtedly find William of Malmesbury's Gesta cited throughout the footnotes of other studies. This volume provides a comprehensive commentary and analysis of the Malmesbury manuscripts, equal in every respect to the high standard expected from Oxford Medieval Texts.
Be forwarned, however, that this volume contains only the commentary. Those interested in reading the excellent full-text English translation, or making their own interpretation from the Latin will require the companion Volume I, which for some reason, Amazon does not include in its catalogue listings.

Green eyes, dukes & kings
Published in Unknown Binding by Quarry Press ()

"Green Eyes, Dukes and Kings" was named after a traditonal Spanish saying, or proverb. I actually didn't much like the stories about Spain--too much existential angst--and the ambitious terrorists who try to transform it. I did like, very much, the set of fictions that concern life in a small one-ring cirucs in Australia. These are, I thought when I read this book more than a dozen years ago, simply brilliant. The book is ong out-of-print and is probably hard to locate. It would be worth the effort for those stories about circus life in Australia, filled with rich characters, bizarre events and unpredictable endings.

Although short, this hip designed gem of a book conducts interviews with those closest to JMB throughout his career including his old band, Fab 5 Freddy, his first dealer, his girlfriend, collectors and dealers including Mary Boone, excerpts from the Wathol diaries and so on. Great color reproductions of his work and probably one of the most suited titles of any books about him.

The King's Mother : Lady Margaret Beaufort, Countess of Richmond and Derby

Lady Margaret Beaufort was the Countess of Richmond and Derby and the mother of a king, Henry VII, whose coronation put the finishing touches on the War of the Roses. Looking at her life is a wonderful way to examine this pivotal period in English history as she was a pivotal person, herself, during this period. Sometimes she was a pawn in the plans of others but often she created her own destiny, while all the time remaining a creature of politics and a survivor at a time when very many did not. The authors have done their research well and provide a very detailed account. Often the financial details can be very revealing and occasionally monotonous to the casual historian but always important. This is a very good study of an important woman.

A very interesting book, though the author is decidedly pro monarchy and particularly towards the Queen Mother. Wallis comes off as a shrew of the greatest magnitude, while the Queen Mum seems destined for sainthood. Having read a number of books about the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, it's interesting to see the story from the other side. Let's just say that both women had their fair share of faults...and leave it at that.

An excellent portrait of one of progressive music's founding fathers. "Wrong Movements" is a bit by bit and piece meal anthology, if you will, put together to give the reader a firm background of Roberts history. Begining with the antics of Soft Machine and running through to 1988 or there about, "Wrong Moments" shares through newspaper reproductions and clippings, the view from press releases and reviewers of his recorded output. With a bit more commentary from the author, this could have been a bit more insightfull, but this reader is greatful for any information on Mr. Wyatt. Highly recommended for beginners and great for those already aware.
